I have to say that this does not always apply. I have experience of two attempted kidnappings in W Africa. Two four man teams. At this time I had 43 years martial arts experience. A combination of Shotokan (4 years) & Aikido (39 years) saw me take them out.
From age 12 I studied Shotokan for four years. I then began studying Aikido and still do aged 63. My fist/hand edge will pass the head/body until my elbow. As mentioned in a comment below, I have practical experience in W Africa against two four man teams who attempted kidnappings. It did not go well for them, otherwise I would not now being typing this.

Amemiya sensei has explained that there was a weapon called "Yoroi Doshi". It looked like a big needle to stab a gap between each part of old samurai armor. His ancestor put the name on their atemi skills as the weapon does.

Thank you for the updates. I love seeing techniques.
Dropping the weight the way he was demonstrating remind me of what Aikido Sensei koichi Tohei used to teach about Imaging the weight on the underside of the arm and then dropping it on the other person's arm
