I'm just gonna go out on a limb here, probably gonna get a lot of hate saying this but this is why the media industry should stop typecasting i.e. 'This actor is fat so he should only do comedic roles'. Shindong is funny whatever size he is. The "comedic character" Donghae says Shindong might lose is due to the fact that for decades, lots of plus sized people in entertainment were (and are still) pigeon-holed onto that funny character. And this built that stereotype that plus-sized people in the entertainment world should be funny and if they lose weight they aren't funny anymore. Jonah Hill lost weight just so he can get more serious roles, he was always placed on comedy movies because of his size. Rebel Wilson's agent and handler in the US was against her losing weight because she won't get funny roles anymore. When Shindong lost weight people were straight up rude telling him that he's not cute anymore or he's not funny to watch anymore. And that's not necessarily people's fault, it's the fault of the media brainwashing we all received.

It's asinine to blame it all on the media industry. The media sells whatever they think the public would buy. It's a reflection of society. The media industry could stop typecasting, but would it help sell the shows? The media industry is not your local high school, they're chasing views and ratings, not what "seems right". If this isn't what the public wants, then they will stop consuming, and the media will then be forced to change. You're not a captive audience you know? There are so many streaming platforms, various youtube channels, national tv channels, cable tv, etc. Vote with your views. There's no reason for them to change if the public's viewing habits don't change. It's not their job to educate you, and if you somehow get brainwashed, it's your fault. That's a stupid excuse unless you live in N Korea.

While i agree that indeed is a stereotype, being a fan of suju for 12 years and seeing Shindong thru many weightloss and weight gain ill say that yes, the times that he was slimmer he acted more serious. But in this case this maybe is just Shindong that is acting like that. He never stopped being funny but for some reason he was a tad more composed when he was thin, he acted more cool and i assume he had a little more confidence, and (im going to far here) maybe he was tired and malnourished from being in a crash diet those times,thats maybe why he was more serious. There was times that shindong didn't looked extra thin like in sexy free and single or didnt looked heaver like in black suit era, in some eras (like 2ya2yao or bonamana) he looked just fine,still chubby and healthy. And i prefer him like that, not because of the looks but because he said himself that when he is in his highest weight he suffers from high pressure and doing concerts is really hard for his body and gets really tired. I dont know why i rambled so much, sorry 😂

Shindong has been struggling with diets for all his career. I honestly think he likes to eat and he had to deal with years of fatphobia from the industry. It's interesting that the members are divided on this, because I was expecting them to say he should loss weight. I get Donghae's point even if I don't agree with it. We're not in the 2010s anymore, Shindong is funny because he's funny, not because he's chubby. His biggest quality is how quick-minded he is. Don't get me wrong, self-deprecating humour is great too and being able to joke about his body is a positive attitude, but yeah, there's a difference between a chubby guy laughing about being a chubby guy and someone else laughing AT him. He should be whatever he want himself to be; in some interviews it seems that he's the first one who doesn't really recognise himself as a thin idol, so that's something. I was a bit surprised by Eunhyuk's reply tbh, too bad we didn't get to know the reason. As a fan, I don't like ELFs that say "even if he's fat, I like him" because it sounds like something bad. Or even worse, those ELFs who say that Shindong could be a great dancer as good as Eunhyuk if only he had a different body shape 🤨 excuse me? Both are literally the best dancers the group has, just say you don't like him because he's chubby and go on.

Instead of losing weight, Shindog should probably work on fitness and building muscle. He looks a bit weird when he loses weight (head to body ratio doesn't work for me).

I feel you, he looks a little like a bobble head. When Shindong was younger, like between Sorry Sorry and SPY era, he was in pretty good shape (dense muscle mass). It’ll be a challenge, but all health changes aren’t without effort, I believe he can do it.

I agree with you, the times Shindong has lost weight is just fat loss thru diet and cardio but he doesnt seem to go to the gym and build muscle. And yeah, he sometimes looks unproportioned but at the same time i think i like him when he is in the middle, like in 2ya2yao, he looks still chubby sompared to the rest of idols but not as thin as in Sexy free and single where he looked way to thin. Also i think i like the variety of bodies in suju, i dont want Shindong to become the second Siwon bodywise, i mean if he wants to thats his choice but that will just be becoming like everyother idol in terms of body, i would like him to keep his individuality
