In an ocean of musical garbage, quality, erudite music, struggles to be known by the public. But eventually Alma's talent will take her around the world as the truly gifted musician she is. Love that she composes tonal music, plenty of counterpoints and exquisite harmonies.

her music sounds romantic with a touch of mozart -- in any case, REAL MUSIC that touches the heart (as opposed to cerebral compositions that primarily move the the brain)

Yup! Some modern music can be good, and some others simply are not. Harmony is fundamental. For a variation we can have dissonances and the like, however, it must be used carefully, otherwise becomes just a luxurious noise. I've tried several times to "understand" Stravinsky. After a number of tries of Le Sacre du Printemps we can begin to accept it. But I know I'll never really enjoy it. "Aussi peu que les nuages", played by Bomsori Kim is a disaster for my ears. No matter how 'cerebral' it could be considered. (And Bomsori is a fantastic violinist). Yes, some pieces are revolutionary, landmarks, bla, bla, bla. But, are they really beautiful? Do they move, touch us? Alma's compositions, all of them, are beautiful.

Helen has been involved in various roles in Alma's Cinderella since the first performance in 2015. I'm not sure about the first Vienna production (2016), since there's no full recording that I know of, but she's seen in the videos of the Israel (2015), San Jose (2017), second Vienna (2018), and upcoming Salzburg (2021) productions.

I confess. After the last chord when Alma rose from the organ bench to take her bow, I burst into tears. Hats off to Jane Glover for her loving guidance and thorough understand of this wonderful score and for every cast and orchestra member who made this a production a true labor of hope and love.

The enacting of Alma's Ciderella is a precious jewell. Vanessa Becerra (Ciderella) is a wonderful soprano, owner of a privileged voice and beauty. All of the artists of Opera San José deserve the compliments for a job extremely well done. Alma shines from the beginning to the end. Helen is just adorable. The 7 soldout spectacles, the 4.5 minutes of applause for all the artists and the ovation for Alma are well deserved. It is a masterpiece for any age.

Alma is our new Mozart! A genius composer and now also conductor. And what I admire of her a lot is that she isn't afraid of using tonality and expressing beauty in her music. She embraces tonality, leaving behind the ugliness of 20th century atonality in "classical" music compositions. From the video's and interviews I have seen of this beautiful and God given talented young Lady She has done just that by the music she has composed and written and played for us is amazing. I have only been to such an event called opera when I was 12. I was in the 8th grade in a military school in Tennessee when the class of 8 or 9 of us were taken to see the play/opera cause there was lots of singing and it always stuck with me but it didn't come to remembrance til about a year or so ago when I saw Alma's video for the first time and then I had to look at 5 or 6 more of them before I went to bed around 2AM.. Bless you Alma.

I can't believe this was posted just 15 hours ago, and I could have missed it! I saw so much more, heard so much more, than the first time I saw the opera posted on this station. Like Alma as organist, her sister Helen as flower girl stepping on a step-sister's toe, and the music of the songs. This is lovely, and an antidote to all that is ugly and complex in the world. I wonder if there are other excerpts posted. A lovely coda to Alma's opera. She is a treasure. But may I add that Helen is as pretty as Alma is talented.

I just ordered this, as I realized that the Lyric Opera of Chicago will likely not produce this opera in my lifetime. (I hope I am wrong.) They like to present modern operas that are hideous, and half the audience either does not attend, or walks out during the performance. Thank you for bringing back beauty to modern classical music.
