How singers are supposed to sing this song, huh? Is there a "correct" way to sing this? If so, please elaborate. Singers can sing this song in any way they want. Let them interpret the message and express it in their own delivery. They don't need to copy the original singer just so they could sing on how it was "supposed" to be sang. Each singer is unique. Music is an expression, not a set of rules that you're supposed to follow whenever you wanna sing.

Hmm on the part that you mentioned "music is an expression" perhaps you should study music theory 3 so your knowledge be corrected. You are right, singers may sing it on their own way, yes, but what he mean by: "the way it should be sang" is that, the music itself. Regine's music would never and can never be compared to anyone else. The way she delivered the song? I doubt that any other singers can give the same sincerety on that specific song. What makes Regine's music different from the others is the music itself. You can easily identify if she's singing from the heart or just performing.. Accdg to Ryan Cayabyab: "Her music is like a roller coaster ride." (ref: Philippine Musicology 2).

the strange combination of power and sweetness in her voice, plus her characteristic tone and clarity makes her interpret this song the way it should be interpreted, as a thankful, colorful, gentle, yearning tribute. Just look at her eyes and the way she sang "there I was alone in the shadow/couldn't find my way." It's not an expression of the literal meaning of the lines any more than an anticipation of the next. That is why even at the first few lines you can already feel what the song is all about. Regine's voice does not sound forceful and dark (although these are not bad qualities of a voice) but rather free and open and light, which for me is more appealing for this song. I believe that rearranging, drastic key or tempo changes or even stylistic vocals like growls or whistles may add new 'flavour' to the song, but the simplicity and inexplicable charisma in Regine's phrasing, diction and solid belts make this version truly the one that you will always go back to. Either that, or I'm just really a Regine fan. :-D
