My mom just passed on April 1st. We shared a love for almost all music but we truelly loved shinedown. We would workout to it. Crank it up in the car. A few months before she died We were on our way to a Dr. App and I was playing them. She said I raised you right boy. She would have loved this album so much. Miss her so much. Thanks guys. I'll love it for both of us.

Today I went to work like a normal day with special needs students age 14-21; I had a 16 year old who listens to music with me while we work and he knew every word to this song… my heart melted knowing his struggles and how much this song reminds me of somebody in my life who I have to keep at arms length. Shinedown does this constantly… brings people together. Thank you

I have experience in "behavioral Health care" as an RN. started reading the Bible and different versions for the past 3+ years. I lost faith in pills and hospitals and the 'system' which created 'forced' or 'involuntary' hospitalizations. I still screw up and a 'sinner' per the world view, but Everyday I try to read Scripture and listen to rock/metal songs like this one. there are so many rock bands today that inspire through the lyrics or words inspired faithfully with Gods Spirit freely working small miracles daily. The path to truth and healing is not found written on a prescription pad, restraints, injections given under corporate for profit health care systems.

Wow, this feels like the relationship between my boyfriend and I. I'm the awkward woman and weirdo in groups. I never fit in with large groups, never been socially accepted, and dismissed by society. All I've ever done is carry my baggage with me...with everything on fire around me. Then I found someone who understood that. All he's done is support me mentally when nobody else did. He has the same issues that I do. I'm forever grateful that he brought this band back to me. I love him more than anyone else I've ever met. This is honestly their best album since Amaryllis. I know a lot of people didn't care for Amaryllis during the time the album came out, but during that time the person I loved and trusted more than anyone left us. Alone with my 4 and 2 year old children, Amaryllis helped me through it all, many tears during many sleepless nights, trying desperately to keep my kids from seeing their dad unraveled. I'm better now, it's just me and them, 14 and 12, but wow this song right here brings a lot of those feelings back, and that's okay. Shinedown has been there seemingly through so many emotional ups and downs. Heck my daughter's first favorite song was Second Chance, at 2 years old, she'd be belting it out. Through my denial, my sadness, my hate, my acceptance, and finally contentment, I feel so lucky to have a band like this around.

This song describes me growing up. I never fit in with any crowd, sure I had friends, but even then I walked to my own tune, had different interests, and if we did have the same I took that love and passion to different levels than they did. I'm a mom to an autistic daughter, and somedays it feels like this raising her and helping her learn to navigate the world and teaching her to care for herself because I know I can't always be here for her.

I find myself listening to this over and over as someone who is dealing with depression i've always been awkward and weird grew up mostly in special education classes all through school got picked on and bullied in elem and jr. High school wasnt as bad and had some friends but I still walked to my own tune and now at 43 i live alone I have never been married,no kids. Had a few relationships but not many long term. At 43 I dont think I have ever been in love before I think I would know if i had. As I get older my parents get older, my grandparents are in their upper 80s almost into the 90's neither of them will be here forever and I keep to myself in this apartment scared of what my life will be like after they are all gone and I'm left alone. Just passing through life like a passenger on a ship of fools. Sorry for the ramble but I believe this song speaks out to so many people in so many different ways. The lost, the lonely, those who beat to a different drum and trying to find a sense of purpose of existence and belonging and wonder.

I've been a Shinedown fan for about 20 years and I've never had one of their songs speak to me like this one does. It's like Brent has known me for my whole life and just wrote this about me. And it's even more true since I lost my mom recently. She was my best friend. The first few times I listened to it, I cried. Thank you for always being with me Shinedown!

You know what drives me crazy is knowing Brent has worked for bands to bring them success as much as he has been given. Examples Apocalyptica/ Halestorm /theory of a dead man and his own band shinedown. I've seen this man perform 17 times even though he has hundred thousands of times. Brent Smith is an angel from the world above. I love his history /music/ talent and voice. Inspiration to others in his music craft and drive for the most important part entertaining you and I. This man is a godsend!!

Like everyone else commenting here… you guys killed it. Not with only this song, but basically every song you come out with. It’s seriously mind blowing how you can continue to do this album after album. How you aren’t the most popular band in the world at this point blows my mind. Shinedown please for the sake of everyone who listens to your music, everyone present and those to come.. never change who you are because what you are is everything we all need.

"A Symptom Of Being Human" I can't still remember me and Miss November rain Beautiful and strange Always so inclined, coloring outside the lines Yeah, you were never on time You've always been slightly awkward, kinda weird Upside down and not all here What's a-wrong with me and you is crystal clear Sometimes I'm in a room where I don't belong And the house is on fire and there's no alarm And the walls are melting too How about you? I've never been the favorite, thought I'd seen it all 'Til I got my invitation to the lunatic ball And my friends are comin' too How about you? Don't worry, it's all just a symptom of being human Unpack all your baggage Hide it in the attic, where You hope it disappears This all seems so familiar But it doesn't feel like home It's just another unknown You've always been slightly awkward, kinda weird Upside down and not all here Right a wrong, it's all so crystal clear Sometimes I'm in a room where I don't belong And the house is on fire and there's no alarm And the walls are melting too How about you? I've never been the favorite, thought I'd seen it all 'Til I got my invitation to the lunatic ball And my friends are comin' too How about you? Don't worry, it's all just a symptom of being human We're all just passing through Passengers on a ship of fools We're all just passing through Passengers on a ship of fools Sometimes I'm in a room where I don't belong And the house is on fire and there's no alarm And the walls are melting too How about you? I’m sorry, to hear about you Son is awful. It’s a pain I never wanna know and I don’t wish upon a single person. Especially the pain of a suicide.. I overdosed years ago and had to tell my parents Christmas Day because that’s when got out of the ER. The way they broke down and the way my mother cried and their hugs. I never want to see that on them again. That pain was unimaginable and I was still alive to tell them about it few days after I was okay. I can’t imagine what would’ve been the case to have them get told on the day of or 2 days before Christmas they lost their child. It breaks my heart that people feel that way because I felt that way and tried.. I was given a second chance and if it means anything I always have said i was given a second chance that others didn’t get to have at life and we lost a beautiful soul because of it so I will use my chance I got fully and love my life sober and happy and with family and friends who love me. I miss my friends who didn’t make it out too so I live for them and every lost soul to try to(in my own way) honor them because they never could do things I am now. So every hike. Trip to a new place or thing I do for fun and things I’ve never done and am trying, are for your son! I’ll keep him in mind when I travel and adventure. May he rest in peace my friend. I am truly sorry

In all the years I’ve been listening to Shinedown, I feel like they take mental health seriously with all of their songs. Started listening to them with the song “Second Chance”. Now, I just discover this beauty today. Would definitely consider these guys a saving grace for anyone who is struggling. It takes a lot for me to say that and I’m thirty. My brother (in-law) decided to stop living on October 30th 2023 the day before his brother and my wedding anniversary. Luke was the in-law I felt closest to in my husband's large family and collection of siblings, we loved the same music types and had similar anxieties and animal love. He was my husband's best friend and they one we went to for help. The first uncle his niece and nephew could reconize and point at and say "that's uncle Wook" and the one they'd get excited to have over. He was a vetran having served 2 tours in Iraq, a dad to a teenage son and so much more. This song always makes me think of our Luke.
