The sound of madness, as Brent will explain in his interviews, could really just be the steamy gurgle of the coffee pot, making love to the snooze button of your alarm clock rousting you out of your sleepy stupor as you pull yourself together for getting to work.....the rhythmic thrum of the shower pelting on your back, the ambulance sirens whizzing by your window.....or the soft, quiet place you go to gather your thoughts... it's more of a humble metaphor that takes on relative perspective as it applies to the listeners world in general, from their internal monologue and their personal unique situation, it's memory ghosts between the beats, it's different to every member of the audience. This piece can hit every nuance on the philosophical spectrum. It's potent medicine for the brain. I love this song!

I always say Shinedown is my "go-to" band. I wish this band had been around 40 years ago, I would have been living a better life, I believe. But then sometimes I think that the "road of shame" brought me to Shinedown. Therapy in music. Truth never felt so good. Peace
@athelwulfgalland
@athelwulfgalland 4 ай бұрын
I hear you loud & clear, 40 years ago would have put this in my early childhood, like the 1st grade time frame. That said we go through the hardest of times in our lives, the worst experiences & our greatest tragedies so that we can arrive at a time that might not be optimal but when looking back it seems like the difference between heaven & Earth. Goodness how this song alone would've changed my life just 30 years ago - but if it did I can't even imagine where I'd be today. I can never say I'd trade my life today for another version of today I don't know because it would deny those whom I've met that mean the most to me.

I was listening to Styx, Rush, B.O.C., Queen and Genesis, among others, back then and they made life pretty good...not quite as theraputic as Shinedown, but they had their moments.

Sound of Madness Yeah, I get it, you're an outcast Always under attack Always comin' in last Bringin' up the past No one owes you anything I think you need a shotgun blast A kick in the ass So paranoid Watch your back! Oh my, here we go Another loose cannon gone bipolar Slipped down, couldn't get much lower Quicksand's got no sense of humor I'm still laughin' like hell You think that by cryin' to me Lookin' so sorry, that I'm gonna believe You've been affected by a social disease? Well then, take your medicine I created the sound of madness Wrote the book on pain Somehow, I'm still here to explain That the darkest hour never comes in the night You can sleep with a gun But when you gonna wake up and fight For yourself? I'm so sick of this tombstone mentality If there's an afterlife, then it'll set you free But I'm not gonna part the seas You're a self-fulfilling prophecy You think that by cryin' to me Lookin' so sorry, that I'm gonna believe You've been affected by a social disease? Well then, take your medicine I created the sound of madness Wrote the book on pain Somehow, I'm still here to explain That the darkest hour never comes in the night You can sleep with a gun But when you gonna wake up and fight For yourself? I created the sound of madness Wrote the book on pain Somehow, I'm still here to explain That the darkest hour never comes in the night You can sleep with a gun But when you gonna wake up? When you gonna wake up and fight? I created the sound of madness Wrote the book on pain Somehow, I'm still here to explain That the darkest hour never comes in the night You can sleep with a gun But when you gonna wake up and fight For yourself? But when you gonna wake up and fight (for yourself?) But when you gonna wake up and fight (for yourself?) But when you gonna wake up and fight For yourself?

I love this song ... When you gonna wake up and fight for yourself? Another way of saying wake up, live your life and be happy cause the darkest hours of your life aren't when you're sleeping but when you realize you have or had an opportunity to live and be happy but was too damn scared to be yourself.

@@deviusoutdooradventures8136 So happy for you. I only struggled for about a year alongside my cousin. I dont know what its like to endure years of addiction but ive seen the effect. My cousin became so bad off he began stealing from our family. It drove me to quit cold turkey as well. Definitely an experience no one should have to go through. It takes a strong drive and will to overcome. I pray for the people who don't possess such a mentality.

Oh wow! Never thought to even check these comments. Ty for the couple of positive things you posted. So many ppl do not understand how things that we do to ourselves or others do to us, affects many. Especially the ones who really love us & we do not even realize it or believe it. No one ever wants to talk about the bad. B/c I don't struggle every day to make it, most ppl believe that it's not even a problem. Some ppl think & feel their lives are way worse than mine. Some are. Some are not. Either way, everyone's problems are big & important to themselves. That is all that matters. I try to practice understanding than trying to be understood & life is better. Prison no is not where I would like to have my son? I do have him. A lot of mothers do not. It's all about gratitude.

Kelly McNeely Hey, do you have a Bible? If not then you need to go buy one and read some of the New Testament, it's very inspirational and the way that you've written these comments look like they should be in the Bible itself! The comments sections for pretty much every Shinedown video is FULL of inspirational words, and I believe yours are the most inspirational of them all! I'm really sorry about your son, in fact, I'll pray for his safety. Never believe that you're alone because God will always be there with you.

This song never gets old. Damn, I could lay here listening to it back to back and feel the same as the first time I heard it over and over. Happy New Year's Eve 2019/2020 everyone!

when you gonna wake up and fight for yourself ????? I think people need to start asking themselves this question. Everyone is waiting for something or someone to save them, ONLY YOU CAN SAVE YOU.

Hi Ashley! If you like you could listen to PENUMBRA - Tormento (Video Lyrics) it's a similar style, maybe you like it too. I'd love to know your opinion about them. Cheers!
