"Good Evening" came out just a few months after Jonghyun's death (12/2017) and was SHINee's first comeback (5/2018) without him. Jonghyun's favorite book was "The Little Prince" and this theme was heavily referenced in the MV. The cartoonish fox is the character within that book and represents many things, especially Jonghyun. The movie-like shadow of the man behind Onew is Antoine de Saint-Exupery (author of The Little Prince). Milinda Wilson, another SHAWOL (SHINee World fan) has a very in-depth, well researched explanation of all of this in other reaction comments. As I don't have permission to copy/paste it here, I hope she will see your reaction and elucidate. In any case, I will also try to provide an explanation of some of the things I see here. The glaring flashes at the beginning (with Key) and all the cameras pointing at the members signify the scrutiny the remaining members were under right after the tragedy. They were not allowed to grieve properly, as all the papers and media wanted access to them to ask them about Jonghyun's death. However, SHINee just wanted to be treated normally and left alone to grieve. The video is bathed in aqua lighting in many scenes because pearl aqua is SHINee's signature color and always represents SHAWOLs & SHINee together. The whole point of the video is to honor Jonghyun and show the other members' stages of grief, chiefly sadness in the beginning as exemplified by Onew looking at the anime fox (Jonghyun) longingly; anger when Key smashes the piano. Taemin (who plays piano beautifully) walking on the piano keys because he can't bring himself to play due to grief. The closeup of Onew's hands give the feeling of him being isolated from the others. Onew had been falsely accused of sexual harassment just prior to Jonghyun's death and had withdrawn from many of SHINee's activities so as not to distract or create fodder for the media for a while. He had just started to get back to regular activities with SHINee, as he had been cleared of all accusations, when all this happened. As the leader of SHINee, Onew felt a lot of responsibility and guilt (unfortunately and unnecessarily, as none of it was his fault) over it. He said that for the longest time he didn't feel he had the right to cry to express his grief. The choreo in the beginning is not supposed to be fluid but rather more disjointed to demonstrate how they are trying to resolve the struggle to adapt to having only four members together rather than five (they had all been together for 11 years at that point and are extremely close). Under the plastic - suffocating under the weight of the relentless press and feelings of heartbreak, and loss. Acceptance comes in the symbolism of looking into the well and seeing Jonghyun's shadow. He is still with them in spirit, and they can catch glimpses of him in their music - especially through the many songs Jonghyun wrote for them. Finally, Key looks back into the forest where the fox dwells, as if to say goodbye, and then, with a very slight grin, as if to say everything is going to be okay, he runs to catch up with the others, as they move on to continue the dream of all five of them, carrying Jonghyun in their hearts, and remaining always 5 = 5HINee. You can see at the end, with the choreo, the four of them are now dancing evenly spaced, in perfect synchronicity as before when it was all 5 of them together. Then they are all running together happily, smiling in the forest. They have passed through the worst part of their grief and are ready to move on, but always with Jonghyun's spirit (depicted as the shadow in the well again) with them. The entire album, "The Story of Light" pays homage to Jonghyun. It was released in 3 parts and each of the three title songs were about their feelings for Jonghyun: "Good Evening", "I Want You", and "Our Page". "I Want You" sounds very upbeat and cheerful, but it's camouflage for the sad lyrics underneath and again has that "The Little Prince" feel about it due to the space theme. "Our Page" was written by all four members, is beautiful, meaningful, and reduces you to tears, especially if you watch the MV. The collective album is a masterpiece and even includes the song, "Lock You Down" with Jonghyun's voice that was pre-recorded.

Yes Taemin absorbed a lot of informal training from Jonghyun and Onew, but because his range is more similar to Jonghyun's he ended up adopting his style a little more. But where Taemin has an ethereal, airy voice, Jonghyun has a brighter tone and absolutely brutal power when he chooses. And yes, Taemin is the primary goto for Jonghyun parts when SHINee sings older songs, but occasionally Key will step in when they need the "harsher" tone, and of course Onew will do some, but he is usually tied up singing his own main vocalist parts. The really cool thing now is how much Minho has improved, to the point where he covers some of Jonghyun's parts! This is especially true in their most recent tour, where Onew has been sick, so the three "non-vocalists" have had to cover five parts, including the incredibly difficult parts from Jonghyun and Onew, and they did an amazing job!

People have explained the video, but I really, really recommend reading the lyrics for all three The Story of Light songs ("Good Evening," "I Want You," and "Our Page (The Words You Left Behind)") before you watch the remaining two MVs, since the series is about Jonghyun's passing. In particular, the SHINee members wrote "Our Page" themselves and watching the MV alone won't show you everything they wanted to express. And just to explain the atmosphere around the comeback with its three title tracks... there was a lot of uncertainty among fans and the industry about whether they might disband after such a terrible loss. Three of the members were also set to enter the military, and back then it was pretty expected that most male groups would either slow down significantly or break up following a military hiatus. (Clearly, they've proven that very wrong.) But the Story of Light tracks are about the stages of grief and SHINee's interactions with the outside world: "Good Evening" was about how SHINee see themselves (in the actual choreo for live performances, they never look at the camera - only at each other), "I Want You" was about SHINee showing themselves to the world again, and "Our Page" was a tribute and their determination to keep traveling on this journey together. By the way, their Japanese and Korean discographies are completely separate... and handled by different labels, even. :) So there's no storyline connections between them.

Remembering too that Taemin was also so young and going through that awkward puberty stage with voice changing at the time of their debut which had a lot to do with him needing to find his own unique sound. Good Evening was done after Jonghyun's passing and right before Key, Onew and Min left for military. We think the fox represents Jonghyun.

Yes, Taemin's style of singing, especially in SHINee songs, is a lot like Jonghyun. And as you may have started to notice, Taemin fills in for Jonghyun whenever Jonghyun was unable to participate in a performance, such as with "Why so Serious?" And even today, Taemin often takes over the high notes and the parts that I think would probably have been Jonghyun's parts in their new songs. Jonghyun was the one that really took Taemin under his wing and helped him to become the singer and performer that he is today. So, many think that Taemin's voice emulates Jonghyun because he is the one that taught Taemin to sing. Jonghyun has always been Taemin's biggest supporter and the one that rooted for him the hardest and loudest out of anyone. Taemin just recently said in an interview during his "Guilty" promotions that as the maknae of the group the other SHINee members have had a big influence on who he is today. He even mentioned how they joke that they see a lot of themselves in Taemin because they pretty much raised him. And Minho has even apologized to Taemin because he can see the influence he has had on some of Taemin's bad habits/personality. LOL

aww, i need to watch more of Taemin's interviews. But i think now Taemin is singing his way. That's why many say he is grown. But it's just his found his real voice at last.

jonghyun didn't teach him to sing, they just have similar vocal colours and he gave him some pointers. You can't become as good as taemin did with just help from a great singer, you need a proper professional coach, which was Park Sunjoo, who Taemin worked with. Shes one of the best vocal coaches in Korea, coaching Kyuhyun, Luna, Kim Bumsoo, Junsu etc.

@@triplej8666 I don't want to argue with you, but you obviously know nothing about SHINee or their history. Jonghyun, 100% taught Taemin to sing. What do you think a vocal teacher is? A vocal teacher is someone who has learned the proper vocal techniques and ways to produce the sounds they need in order to be a great singer and then they pass that knowledge on to someone else. Which is what Onew and Jonghyun did when helping Taemin to find his voice and learn to sing. At a time when SM wasn't giving Taemin the intensive vocal lessons he wanted and needed in order to improve his voice, Jonghyun and Onew have said themselves that they would spend many hours at night up on the roof of their dorm going over vocal warm-ups and teaching Taemin the techniques that they had learned, combined with their inherent understanding and knowledge of what they did personally to be the great singers that they are, to help Taemin understand what he needed to do in order to improve his singing. (Jonghyun and Onew were also mentors and vocal coaches for several of the EXO members when they were trainees. Even as rookies, Jonghyun's and Onew's understanding and knowledge of vocal techniques was so highly respected by professional vocal trainers that they would be asked to help other trainees understand what they needed to do in order to become a great singer.) I would consider that TEACHING Taemin how to sing. And Taemin has said, that he feels that the reason why he was able to progress so quickly from having almost no lines in SHINee's first few songs, to being given many of the main parts of the songs, was because of the lessons and time that Jonghyun and Onew spent teaching him what he needed to do in order to be able to match them as singers. Yes, Taemin took vocal lessons with professional vocal teachers who were paid to teach SM artists how to sing, but a large part of what makes Taemin the artist that he is today was due to what he LEARNED from Jonghyun, as well as the other SHINee members. A teacher is someone who has taught you something you didn't fully know or understand before, whether that is directly or indirectly. Any time you learn something from someone else they are TEACHING you. How do you think an infant learns to talk? The watch and listen to what the adults are saying and doing in order to understand what words mean and how to turn sounds into words and words into sentences, etc. The child LEARNS to speak by being around other people and watching and listening to them speak. Taemin learned how to be a singer in the same way, by watching and listening to great singers like his SHINee brothers, which is why most Shawols will agree, that's why Taemin's style of singing is a lot like Jonghyun with elements of all the other SHINee members mixed in.

So, I was a casual listener of SHINee when Jjong passed away. It was a shock but I got over it as I wasn't deeply attached to the boys at that time. But when I heard SHINee made a comeback with Good Evening, I had to check out cause there's always something new with this group. But I wasn't expecting the song to be a banger atleast to my causal listening ear. Respect to SHINee who didn't wanted to be pitied for what happened. There was gonna be time to address what happened (which they did with their farewell song to their brother through Our Page), but the guys made sure that when they carry the name SHINee, they will ALWAYS put the music first. I later came to know that there was a significant amount of fans that didn't support the album and the boys. But I'm glad SHINee didn't get discouraged and continued as 4 and carries the name of Jonghyun with still to this day. If it wasn't for that, me and many other new shawols wouldn't be here, who got to know about their artistry and about Jonghyun. Groups like SHINee comes once in a while.

Jonghyun once said that Taemin is like a monster that study everything that they teaches him. He absorbs and integrates all the good things and makes it his own style. Which makes him really amazing. Jonghyun and Onew helped him in his vocal training when they were just starting. Maybe that's why you can see some similarities between Taemin and Jonghyun. There are similaries and yet they are also unique in their own ways.

To understand SHINee's "Good Evening" MV what you need to know is that it had only been about 5 months when this MV came out since Jonghyun died -- he passed away Dec. 18, 2017 -- and this song and MV is all about how SHINee and Shawols have been grieving and are finally ready to begin to heal and come out of the darkness into the light. The album is called The Story of Light and it's all about finding the light out of the darkness, etc. It's about how the members are learning to continue on without Jonghyun and find happiness and light in a situation that will forever be difficult. May 25, 2018, when this MV was released, was SHINee's 10th anniversary, so this was also important because it was a comeback to commemorate their 10 years as a group. The choreography for "Good Evening" is very deliberate. The reason the choreography is like that is because it depicts them going through the grieving process and it tells the story of all the emotions they went through and how, now at the end, they have made the choice to continue on as a group and keep on running, etc. The choreography is really complex and beautiful and really fits the song well. It becomes clearer once you see it in its entirety and start to understand the story behind it all. Check out their dance practice video to see just how intricate this choreography is. Fun fact: the choreographer for this song was Koharu Sugawara, who was featured in Taemin's "Move" MV, as well as choreographed several of Taemin's other songs, and also collaborated with several other choreographers on Taemin's "Criminal" MV. As you may remember, she is a famous Japanese choreographer who has known Taemin for years, so it was really special she was able to work on this project because she got to be a part of SHINee's healing process. In the MV, not only is the extra shadow that appears when they look into the tunnel/well at the end speculated to be Jonghyun's shadow, but the fox is thought to also represent him. Onew intensely stares into the eyes of the fox, almost as if he is communicating with the fox through his thoughts, and, to me, it's as if he is sharing a moment with Jonghyun. There is a fox in the story "The Little Prince" and "The Little Prince" was one of Jonghyun's favorite stories. Plus, a fox often represents the afterlife and the spirit of someone who has passed on reincarnated in many cultures. Also in the beginning there is an empty chair. An empty chair is often used to represent the spirit of someone who has passed on as well. But that's just a small portion of the hidden messages within this MV. If you really delve in deep you will discover that the whole MV can be connected to SHINee forever being 5 members and them including Jonghyun in all that they do. There are 5 trees at the end, which could represent the fact that, as Onew has said, even though you may only see 4 members on stage, SHINee will forever be a group of 5. They are in a room full of cameras and their images are being projected on the TV screens, which I see as representing the fact that because SHINee is living in the public eye they can never escape from always being watched by the public. Which doesn't allow them the private space to really grieve and to express themselves and they are always being judged (both the members in their grieving process and what Jonghyun had to go through and what ultimately led him to feeling the way he did, etc.) This MV used a lot of green and aqua blue light to depict the cool and somber feel of the story, but it also was used because pearl aqua blue/green is SHINee's fan color and it was used to represent Jonghyun's presence all around them and the support and solidarity they felt with Shawols. The story in the MV is showing the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) the members went through and how they have now at the end of the MV started to find their way out of it and have made the choice to continue to keep on running and continue on as a group, etc. But I could go on and on ... every part of this MV has a deeper message and meaning, you just have to open yourself up to the fact that everything in this MV has multiple meanings and purposes. You see Minho with those oranges, which is really just a giant pile of orange peels, because this part is supposed to depict how he is blindly just going through life, not even able to process what is happening around him. He is not even looking at the peels. It is like his body and mind is on autopilot. If you notice, none of the members ever make eye contact with the camera the entire MV and even in their live performances of the song, you will never see them look at the camera. This was done deliberately as well because they wanted to show how in their grief they were blind to everything that was going on around them and they were closed off to the world and didn't care what was happening outside of themselves even though the world was watching their every move. The part where Key smashes the piano is only one example of of how SHINee shows how they felt for a while after Jonghyun died -- they were angry at everything, including music, and in a way they were blaming "music" and their careers for what happened, and in the MV they were taking their anger out on the piano, etc. The plastic sheet and them flailing under water is supposed to represent how they felt suffocated in their grief and how grieving while in the public eye made them feel trapped at times, etc. Every scene, every image, every movement in their dance, every look, every moment they stand still or look blankly, etc. is very deliberate and is there for a reason. This comeback is part of a three part release celebrating SHINee's 10th anniversary. So they released 3 mini albums with 5 songs each in their The Story of Light trilogy and they had 3 comebacks each 2 weeks apart to showcase their lead track on each of their albums. "Good Evening" and "All Day All Night" were their comeback tracks from Episode 1, " I Want You" and "Who Waits for Love" were their comebacks from Episode 2 and Episode 3 was "Our Page" and "Tonight". Their comeback lasted 6 weeks to represent the fact that it was SHINee's 6th "full length" album. At the end of the six weeks they released a special final MV to celebrate their anniversary and all they have been through over the past 10 years with their song "Countless." "Countless" was an epilogue track that was added to their repackaged Story of Light album. FYI: If you haven't already, make sure when you watch "Our Page" that you also pair the MV with the official lyric video. Every word of "Our Page" was written by the members and it's all about Jonghyun. If you know what the lyrics are about it will help you to understand the story being told in the MV. (It would be helpful to understand the lyrics first BEFORE watching the MV.) The official lyric video is posted on SM's !t Live channel, kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5uTl6qHqbpmgcU. Before this comeback SHINee had just come off their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) world tour and the members were doing solo activities as they worked on what was going to be an epic 10th anniversary comeback. With Jonghyun's passing, that set them back a few months because they were grieving. It also took time to figure out how they were supposed to function without Jonghyun. But SHINee never really stopped working. Two months after Jonghyun died, SHINee held their SHINee World -- The Best from Now On Concert in Japan and they pretty much were working nonstop until Onew, Key and Minho's enlistment. That concert had originally been planned as part of their 10th anniversary celebration and it had already been sold out. So SHINee felt obligated to honor their fans and continue the concert despite everything, which meant some extra work, because they already had been planning everything with Jonghyun. So they had to quickly go back to the drawing board and figure out how to do it with only 4 members and still honor Jonghyun's memory. In SHINee's fan meeting/concert for their 10th anniversary the members all vowed that SHINee will always be 5 and that Jonghyun will always be involved in everything they do. I think we are always going to have reminders of him in all that SHINee does from now on, and that is the way it should be. He was loved and will never be forgotten, and when possible, should always be involved in things that have to do with SHINee. OT5 forever and ever. I think we can feel Jonghyun's presence and influence in this album and songs because a lot of what made SHINee's sound uniquely SHINee (and this album is no exception) was because of Jonghyun. He not only shaped SHINee's sound because he was the main vocal of the group, but, as you know, he also wrote and composed around 40% of SHINee's songs, so he can be felt in everything they do. It wouldn't be SHINee if we didn't hear his influence shine through in their music, that is what makes SHINee's sound so unlike any other. And, because of that, I think from now on we will always be searching for the hidden messages and moments that represent Jonghyun in everything SHINee does.

Timeline: Jonghyun's passing - Dec 2017 Japan concert From Now On - Feb 2018. They continued with this concert just 3 months after Jjong's passing. They distributed his lines and adjusted some of their choreo though most of the time, the space for Jonghyun was still there. This is one of my fave concerts and shows how strong SHINee is. Everytime was performed live there too by the four members and with Jjong's voice. Good Evening and The Story of Light album - Mid 2018. Shawols would say the mv for this has a lot of meaning and representation meant to show how the members went thru after Jjong's passing. Ex: them just being their own little world in that greenhouse, isolated. Yet there were a lot of cameras like they were still being watched. Stages of grief like anger (Key smashing piano), Denial (shaking their heads in the choreo). Some say the fox also represented Jonghyun and was only seen by Onew being the leader and needs to get back on his feet again with the members. The fox led then outside the greenhouse, going back to the world again (forest). Towards the end you see Key paus a bit then smiled like he felt something (probably Jjong) then started running and getting happy again. This continues on the next mv. Highly recommend you check out the lyrics for one of the next mvs - Our Page. There's a fanmade vid with the eng subs if you'd like to do that. The members wrote the lyrics as their letter to Jonghyun.

A bit late to comment, but yeah Taemin always had the potential even during his debut. The thing is, around Sherlock, he was told that he 'doesn't need to sing that much' when he asked for more lines. Apparently someone told him he was tonedeaf as well! (bet they are glad to be proved wrong). This prompted him to focus more on his vocals and practice until ate night with his piano to get his pitch right. He said he would sing so hard that sometimes he would cough up the red stuff. So, the progress you are seeing now is a 100% his hard work and help from both Jjong and Onew. Its not innate talent, but real hardwork

Then you've got "kimi no sei de" (Japanese comeback) "I want you" (Korean, came after Good evening) "Our page" (Korean, please read the lyrics. The members wrote it for Jonghyun, and the music video is a tribute) "Countless" (Korean repackage) "Don't call me" (Korean, after Onew, Key and Minho came back from the army) "Atlantis" (Korean repackage) "Superstar" (Japanese comeback, last one before Taemin went to the army) "The feeling" (Korean, 15th anniversary song) "Hard" (Korean, 1st comeback after Taemin returned from army) "Juice" (Korean b-side with a dance performance music video) Then please look at all members solo works!!

Bastet said on 4/16/22 With all due respect to everyone commenting and leaving their own interpretation, I think adding assumptions & own interpretation on things Shinee addressed about something personal to them is a bit much & unintentionally misleading to new fans not to mention discarding Shinee members own words is not cool especially when it comes to this 1-SHINee members said in interviews that good evening music video is about how the public sees them in general; that's why they spend most of the mv in a glass room that everyone can look inside but don't really know them and the cameras surrounding them are the media and the public eyes always following every move, the choreo for good evening is controlled for the first half because it is what the media see and it is carefree in the second half because that's how it really is and the reality. for I want you music video, they mentioned a couple of times that it's about how they see themselves. the fox and the moon are nods to Jonghyun because he liked the book called little prince, the fox also represents fans actually according to minho and one who said the fox aka fans see the truth and how how they know their true nature without the idea/narrative media have on them. our page music video is directly about how they grieved after December 18th and the song lyrics is about their journey as a group and they wrote for jonghyun and in the song, Onew say softly at the end of our page "you did well" to Jonghyun 2-I don't know why I saw a comment or two below saying sm banned shinee from talking about Jonghyun when that never happened and Key literally more than once said they talk about him on their own terms and if anyone has seen their activities from interviews and shows will know that they mention him normally just fine, they just don't like to mention him in shows that will misuse his name and twist everything into a certain narrative the media wants about him and about them as a group 3- a lot of that album lyrics and songs (good evening, I want you, You & I, Jump, who waits for love and undercover) were already in preparation for a comeback they were supposed to have in October 2017, but due to number of issues that comeback was delayed and they instead planned for a more grand comeback for their tenth anniversary with 3 different mini albums as part of a big album, some of the songs I mentioned were said by the composers that had very early first demos as five, but first demos can't be released so they had to re-record the songs and some of the songs while planned didn't even have demos as five so when they recorded them it was in 2018 4-they also in 2017 were planning a number of concerts to celebrate their tenth anniversary followed by a tour and the tickets were out in November 2017, but what happened happened and they thought about cancelling those concerts, but Jonghyun's mom told them to not do that and carry on with the concerts. those concerts were in February 2018 and as you can see from the timeline they didn't really have time to grieve or prepare much for the tenth anniversary so they went with demos they had already chosen before and like I mentioned earlier had to re-record some songs 5-there was a song they finished recording as five call "lock you down" and that song is in the album by the way 6- in a b-side for a song in the album called who waits for love, the choreographer said he at first made that choreo for them as five, and while the choreo adjusted to fit them four, at the end you can see they leave an empty space for Jonghyun 7- the talk about how every song in the album is about Jonghyun is untrue there are literally directly romantic and even slightly sexual love songs and like I said the composers confirmed themselves that the five members had demos chosen long before anything happened, the songs were just recorded and re-recorded in 2018 so a lot of people think any song with sad lyrics released after Jonghyun passed to be about him when it isn't, I have seen some people do the same with the songs with sad lyrics the members also released for their albums and that's honestly too much and it really is weird how some just love to associate anything sad with Jonghyun when he was more than his passing.

Good evening is actually their 1st comeback after jjong passed away. They have a released a trilogy called The Story of Light with 3 title tracks. GOOD EVENING I WANT YOU OUR PAGE It was a special comeback, they promoted all the songs. For Our Page, The members wrote the lyrics themselves. Their beautiful words encapsulated with that heart tugging song. Hope you can read the lyrics of it. ❤ Also, Just want to say thank you for always appreciating our boys and their beautiful voices.. It's nice to see your journey reacting to their songs and rich discography. They have a lot of bsides and they are a treasure😊

I recomend to read the lyrics of the song. *First the general stuff of the MV* : -They are basically representing the stages of grieve (some says is 5 other 7), in the MV you can see denial (how they move their heads), insolation (when they are on their own little spaces), Anger( when Key hit the piano, like blaming music and their careers for what happened), Bargaining, depression( you can see their expression is really sad in most of the MV, and their dancing is slow) And acceptance (when Key look back and they play in the rain and run in the forest smilling, the dance change as well and became more energetic). There also the sense of shock, when the "Sun light" hit Key face in the begining of the MV, is like when they recived the news. -Also you can see that they are in a glass house and/or always followed by cameras, thats mean they are always in the public eye and that does not allow them to grieve the proper way. -The green/blue (acuamarine) Color is the fandom (Shawol-SHINee World) color, is like tha fans are alway with them. *The specific stuff* : - The fox is a character from the story "the little prince" , that was jonghyun favorite. The CG animation is like that cuz there was a movie of the book were the fox looked exactly like this one. Also in many cultures the fox represent the afterlife/wisdom and also as a guide to the path of the spirit world, cuz of their intuitive sense of direction. So besically it represent jonghyun, you can see how Onew is looking in to his eyes like trying to understand what happened. Also the fox guide them to the forest when they start to run happily, this part is confirmed in the 2nd MV after this one ("I want you" MV), hope you react to it as well. -Onew (the orange hair guy), is the leader and oldest member. You can see in the MV that he seems to be always very sad and serious, and the only one to actually notice the fox (there some kind of conections/ jjong and him were very close) in some part of the MVs you can see Taemin always looking after him , like trying to not left him alone, even in the dance (*watch the live performance*). This confirmed to me that the MV represent exactly what happened. Onew had history of depression as well, and had a "scandal"(incident) before jonghyun passed away, then jjong incident happened and make things even worse for him, so he basically felt responsable for EVERYTHING that had happened . Some one already said in one of your videos that he had a really bad/hard time with all of this. He (as the others) recived therapy, but with him was a lot harder cuz he refused to cry since he believed that he have no right to, he have being basically blaming himselft for it all. As the oldest he suposed to be the lead of the funeral and take name tag , however he could not (Minho did it instead). A lot of people said that SM, his family and members should always have an eye on him, and any one that followed the promotions of their 10 anniversary that exactly what happened all members , specially Taemin took care of him the most, he was watched all the time. He needed to be re-asured that he should not blame himselft and he was a good brother/leader. The MV/dance showed it perfectly. - You could see that Minho is always the one that hold the camera, or is above them or directly looking in to them. It explained since he was the lead of the funeral procession as well it was seem to be the one being the lead in the funeral hall as well. He was basically the face media saw the most from the members when everything happened. - When you see them falling in to the water and with the plastic over them ,it means that with all the emotions+ media they felt that they were soffocating , and in the end you can see Onew halft face out of the water meaning that they are starting breath again but they are still not 100% well. - Also you can see that when Key look back in the forest he smiles is like he sensed Jonghyun presence there, basically he will always be with them. -When they look in to the tunel there are 5 trees behind them, and there is the shadow of jonghyun in the tunel/well. So they are still 5..

The album "The story of light" starts with Good Evening and continues with I Want You and Our Page. Our Page is dedicated to Jonghyun so you're going to want to watch it with subtitles to get the message even though the music video does a good job of conveying it. In the song, Minho is heard saying "You did well" which is something Jonghyun wanted to hear. The album ends with Countless, from the repackage, thus ending the album on a brighter note. The album also contains a song that was recorded before Jonghyun's passing and it's the only song with his voice in it from this album.

There are two things that represents Jonghyun the good evening mv. One is the fox the other is the shadow in the well when they look into it. The three story of light albums are their grieving process in coping after Jonghyun passed away. The first album is their emotional process of grief and how they coped in the days and months of losing him. Keys rate at music and how he smashed the piano in the vid and all the others showing theirs. The second album is how they are recovering and coming out of their grief an the final album is then releasing and being free of it but it's also a tribute to Jonghyun as well all the story of light albums are for Jonghyun. Jonghyuns place in shinee is always visible they always include things from this point on for him in every mv from them onwards. Example: when you see Taemin twice in the Atlantis mv the second him is for Jonghyun and also how he holds his arm outwards when they're all standing together is also for Jonghyun. From here on out very and spot the references in their mv's for him right up to present day. Jonghyuns voice is not on this song mv.

The music video with their hair short was after Jonghyun passed. They were going through it. They went through a lot emotionally and in appearance at the time. Remember they all lived together in the beginning and have been with each other since kids. Taemin sounds like Jonghyun because Jonghyun helped train him musically. He gave his lines in songs to Taemin as Taemin grew. Taemin has Jonghyun mannerisms when he sings if look close. Jonghyun’s emotional bends for notes weren’t struggling for notes but it was his way of reaching emotion. Taemin does it now. They were close from the time Taemin was 11 and Jonghyun 14.

I feel awfully sad you didn’t have much information prior to watching as this was the first MV after Jonghyun’s passing where they pay “homage” to him. The boys expressed both their pain and healing through the lyrics, choreo and visuals where it was apparent and hidden. Otherwise, you would have understood clearly and felt it meaningfully and did not just treated it as a normal SHINee song.😥

Good Evening was their first Comeback after Jonghyuns passing... there is a lot of hidden symbolism that represents him in this video and it depicts all stages of grief. For example anger( Key smashes the Piano), depression (they are locked inside a glass box) sadness ( They are drowning), acceptance and hope ( they are running through the woods smiling)... the cameras represent how they had to grief in the public eye, always watched... the fox represents Jonghyun and Jonghyuns shadow can be seen at the end inside the well, when the other members look inside. There is so much more. From now on you will find little things that hint to Jonghyun in almost every Shinee video. They either leave a spot open for him, include something in the lyrics that is reminiscent of him or represent him in another way. He is always there with them❤ "This is Shinee5 and we right by your site" Definitly watch Our Page with lyrics! Very important. That is the Song they wrote for Jonghyun. Every single word is very special. Prepare tissues... it is a beatiful tribute though. ❤️

*IMPORTANT!* For the next MVs, you'll be reacting to part 2 & 3 and then the epilogue of their Story Of Light album (Good Evening was part 1's title track). Those are I Want You, Our Page and Countless. For Our Page I suggest you have a look at the lyrics first or react to a video of the MV with the lyrics because there are no captions on the official MV and the lyrics are very important (they were written by the members for Jonghyun). And please make sure to have a warning before Our Page because it is a video many of us (including me) have only watched once or twice and cannot watch it again. It is a very painful song/MV for most shawols. Thank you.

The reason Taemin didn't have any lines in the beginning was because he hadn't yet gone through puberty so SM decided not to give him vocal lessons until his voice broke and even after that he got called tone deaf a lot and he had to work really really really hard on his vocal lessons (some of which where given to him by Jonghyun and is part of the reason why their voices/vocal techniques sound similar at times). And it was mostly after their 2012 album Sherlock where he began to be more recognised for his vocals and given more lines with each eventual comeback.
