Recently I also filmed my reactions to NUEST W's Dejavu, Lee Jin Ah's Run, and a first listen to her Full Course album. I ended up running out of brain power, so i'll be filming my reactions to Day6 soon and hopefully get all these videos up by the end of the month! It'll be tough because i'm in summer school and also working hard on the main series/my patreon, but i'll do my best ^^

the lyrics to our page are what really sell the song. the song itself is basic but the lyrics and the music video were what made the song soar higher than a basic synth and percussion line.

Our Page is all about the lyrics. As someone who speaks Korean, listening to the words for the first time, outside of the "music," had my eyes... well, someone was cutting onions!

SHINee taemint They filmed it in November. When Key posted that pic of him and Jonghyun in the studio that was when they recorded.

I think in order to appreciate the title song truly you need to read the lyrics too, obviously music surpasses language barriers, but “Our Page” is so much more symbolic and meaningful with the translations on

This last part of the story of light was so hard to listen for me; it is just so personal. But I'm so happy shinee decided to carry on, they gave us such quality with this trilogy, full of mixed feelings, but that just makes me realise how much I respect and love them as artists and as people. 5HINee forever 💙. When I listened to Our Page, I thought that the song was monotonous on purpose, especially after reading the lyrics, it seems that they may have meant for it to be arranged that way. Usually I wouldn’t like a song so basic in structure because I’m also a musician...I almost always prefer stuff like Retro, but I guess with Our Page I just liked the way in which the ambiance seemed to interact with the lyrics (I might just be a sucker for the chimes though...the beginning of the song reminded me of the OST for Shinsekai Yori). I shared a lot of your opinions on this and I always love hearing your perspective, even as a musician myself I’m learning a lot of stuff that I didn’t know before due to your channel. Thank you for that! (Also I’m writing this while I’m sleep deprived so I probably made some redundant remarks).

This will not be their last comeback as they have been saying they want to continue working and performing as SHINee but Onew does need to his military enlistment soon so i they will probably be on a two year hiatus soon.

Ah I agree that Lock You Down has a bit unexpected ending, but it doesn't change for me that the song is amazing, idk but it just sounds so complete? It's actually my most favorite song in the entire TSOL series! Then the second one will be I Say... the vocals are really strong ugh... esp Jinki's voice is very sweet and smooth in this I just love this ballad track so much ❤

I love SM. I have my issues with their management but I absolutely love what they do with music, it's diverse and experimental, I'm always looking forward to hearing more of their projects, albums etc.

I feel like Our Page is one of the songs in which the lyrics are super important(the members all wrote it for jonghyun) and i think it need to be listened to with the MV

Lyrics of 'you & I' are also important coz they were written by Key and speak about saying goodbye to someone's gone. The symbolism of 'good evening' MV is also important. There are many references to Jonghyun's favorite book 'the little prince' with the projection of the picture of Saint-Exupéry, the fox, the well.

I know right ! Lock you down outro it's so sudden and it makes you feel that you have to add something to make it like a real outro lmao. But I think what that makes the song interesting. And also I Say is my favorite too in this whole albums relay. Their vocals are so strong, the harmonies are insane and the music is totally good ! It sounds like their japanese song called From Now On. If you want to listen to their insane harmonization, think you have to listen to that song too. Their vocal harmonization always give me chill and that's what make me love them even more and more. Thanks for your reaction Umu ! Yours most like what I react to the album 😂

Everyone here saying the song is basic musically, and that the lyrics are the real purpose here... But the instrumental itself... It transmits that "we're fighting to go on without you" feeling, because it's just so well done... Sometimes the perfection is in the simplest things

Just wanted to say that SHINee said they will continue on with being a group they also confirmed that they already renewed their contracts with SM. So no, this won't be their last comeback. It's great to see them carry on and not let a tragedy dictate the end of the band.

Always enjoy your reactions/first listens. :) And SHINee has said this wont be their last comeback. They renewed their contracts so we still have a lot more music to look forward to. It is just going to be a while I think before we get a comeback, seeing as Jinki has to enlist soon and the others as well. But you are absolutely correct, SHINee have left a huge mark on the kpop industry! Always, fresh and unique with their music. Love them :)

I still haven't looked up the translation to Our Page yet because I know I'll just end up crying and the MV is emotional enough already. Thanks for pointing out the church bell tone of the synth - that deepens my impression of the message conveyed by the marching snare beat, 4X4 kick and the gospel-like harmonies. You may not be impressed by the composition and arrangement but imho the sincerity of the song's love, faith, hope, fortitude, compassion and consolation is built on a rock of simplicity. Sometimes I think your analytical mind's preference for complexity misses the artistic intent of the music. Mamamoo's Paint Me is another example. Btw, folks don't need to reply with an explanation of what this channel is all about - I understand and appreciate what Umu does for us and I'm not hating on her.

Thank you for this reaction. :) About this comeback being their last, it’s true, in a way. There won’t be another album before Jinki has to enlist, so as a group they will be on 2 years hiatus, possibly longer as others enlist. They are going to release Japanese single tho, in August. They said several times that they want to continue as SHINee. :) Taemin is preparing for solo comeback as well.

I'm wondering if Lock You Down was actually finished before December. Sounds rather raw and unpolished, so I wonder if it was left like that intentionally. I can see why they might have felt reluctant to change it. Also a homage in a different sense I guess, as these EP's haven't been about moving on but working through the grief, so Jognhyun's voice at the end reminds us to enjoy and listen to all of their works instead of avoiding them out of pain. That's my take on it anyway, so I hope that makes sense.

I love watching your reactions because of the insight provided from a musician's perspective..... but sometimes it feels like musicians are so focused on musical elements that they lack sympathy and emotion... almost becoming musical robots. With Our Page, the synths and instrumentation is simple because that's not the focus. I think if you were to take a look at the lyrics, you would see that SHINee is trying to get a message across. The song is literally a song written as a tribute for Jonghyun, so........

I don't think they lack sympathy and emotion. Umu has said herself in the beginning that she will focus on the musical aspect first because analyzing musical composition while reading the lyric was hard. And while Umu said Our Song was basic musically, she acknowledged that maybe it's not the focus of the song at all (since she haven't read the lyric). I do agree with Umu. Our Song in my opinion is so basic musically, I won't even feel engaged to it if I just randomly listen to it. But I still cry a river when I see the MV and read the lyric, because I know what's transpired behind the song and because the MV and the lyric were what sold this song. Doesn't mean that Umu would not feel emotion too when she's finally be able to see the MV and the lyric. Decide to focusing on one aspect first than the others does not equally mean a human lack of sympathy and emotion.

Phoebe Yuu I just want you to know that I wasn't "attacking" in any way, shape or form. I was simply talking about some musicians in general. In my experiences, it seems that all the classical musicians I've worked with have a strong hatred towards pop music and simple compositions. As a Dance Major, I've had to work with many classically trained musicians on projects, where they are so focused on analyzing elements that they don't understand the correlation between the movement intentions of a dancer and elements of music. In one of my classes recently, I choreographed a piece to song that melodically was much like "Our Page", and rather than discuss what I connected to in the music, the music department head who assists our class commented only on how "boring, bland, and un-complex" my song choice was. I just don't understand why many classical musicians have this hatred towards anything that is simple and pure. Why does every musical composition have to be grande and complex to them?

Sweep Clouds: Thanks for the link. I like his version overall better except on Shinee's version I like the timbre of the voices and small bits of the instrumentation better. Holy F! "Stay Here" is a far superior song for me due to several factors not withstanding I think the anxiety and the harder driving quality of the song fits his voice better.

I was listening to this album in peace, when Retro was in begining, I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS I DONT KNOW BUT I LOVE IT. And then when I heard Jonghyun's voice I momentally started to cry.
