When I told my Honduran friends that I wanted to visit Nueva Capital, one of the most feared neighborhoods in Tegucigalpa, they told me not to go. They told me that the area was too dangerous, as the neighborhood is part of the largest informal settlement (also known as a a favela or slum) in Honduras. But a resident of Nueva Capital invited me to his home, telling me that on the other side of the labels and stigmas were untold stories of people with talent, vision, and an incredible work ethic. Although I was intimidated, I decided to visit the neighborhood to see what New Capital is really like, outside what we see on mass and social media.
