@@bowiemaxplayer28 Karna I can see. Frayja? Not so much. He joins very late, and being locked into Vicar, can’t access any of the absurd weapons Master Monks have access to. Sarah being there from the start puts her over him in my book, but he does get a group healing spell at least.

I remember beating shining force 2 with May, Bowie, Eric, Elric, Peter, Gerhalt, Kazin, Sarah, Karna, Sheela, Lemon and (Janet or May). It been a decade of beating that game.

She's not bad, even. Her only issues are that she joins late and Tyrin has better stats, but Tyrin and Kazin make for better wizards than shamans anyway.

@@lordlouie3550 Tyrin is definitely better off than a wizard than a sorcerer, but Kazin sucks as a wizard, since blaze absolutely sucks in SF2 and is only good early game. Taya joining when she does also has never really been a problem to me, unlike the Creed's mansion situation with Tyrin, where you need to make him your first pick if you want him to get to his best as a wizard, since he'll most likely be unable to catch up in time if you go back for him (assuming that you're doing little to no grinding). The only real problem that I think Taya has is that she learns her spells a lot later than Kazin and Tyrin as Sorcerers, and that still isn't even that bad.

Odd eye is actually playable! ...In Shining Force Final Conflict, the obscure Game Gear game no one ever played. ... Only for the final map. Despite being a free 13th unit, he's absolutely terrible. ...Has MP, but no magic, but Max is here and has Bolt 3 now for some reason.

@@lordlouie3550 can't blame me, I thought it was just a bug that made him suck. I really never used him when I first played the game. That's why I play mods where he's actually useful. Kazin is the best character though.

@@bowiemaxplayer28 He's always consistently been one of the strongest members of the force for me. Both his attack and defense are always in the ?? ranges, and he has great movement. Never understand why people say he's bad when he's so strong.

That his flame breath was supposed to get stronger every ten levels after promotion, but because of a bug that causes the game to not count his pre-promoted levels the same way it does with learning new spells, he doesn't get the first flame upgrade until level 30 promoted. By which point, assuming you even get him that high, is way too late.

I say it because I think the game plays more smoothly, is better balanced, and presents the player with more interesting combat scenarios, and fewer fights that drag themselves out for far too long because of shitty field maps riddled with way too many trees. That said though, the first game does have a better story, and stands out in its own ways that makes them both equally worth revisiting.

Shining Force 2 has quality of life improvements and better graphics. In the battle department they both have very good and very bad levels. Battles like The Circus, Shade Abbey, The Laser Eye, Dragonia, Metapha are epic and memorable; but so are the Cave of Darkness, the Kraken, Talos, Creed's Mansion, the Nazca ship, Mitula's Shrine, etc.
