I remember doing this fight against my brother. We did the code where you can control the enemy. He had his force and I controlled the bosses. I wiped his butt so easy spamming magic.He got so mad. A proud little brother moment.

@@DracMazoku You should be using the Fairy Woods bonus stage. You can easily level up ranged fighters there and also melee units once they reach a sufficient level to only take 1 damage and kill the enemy (Lesser Demon) in one shot. If you place a brick on the 'C' button so the game automatically cycles, then the character will attack without you needing to manually press buttons.

Fairy woods is too easy. No one can hurt any of my team. Only getting one point each kill because Bowie is level 55, and the rest of the team is over 35. No challenge other than time as none of the Monsters can hurt any of my guys at that level. I'm redoing the Zeon fight over and over, and zapping out just before I kill him. The Monsters there, while only worth 1 point, are at least a challenge. Trying to get the rest of the team up to 40 using the Protect Ring thing. The girls/Master Monks are easy to level as they get points for healing and a couple have natural Boost.

Red Baron is probably the only threat here. Desoul can end the battle instantly. More enemies should have had this ability late game.

Geshp can be tricky with Freeze Lvl 4 too.

Actually all spell casters are dangerous since they deal fixed damage rather than attack-defense damage. I was surprised to see that drac chose to attack cameela instead of oddeye. Oddeye is a threat, Cameela really isn't. Now the question is can it be done without healing rain...

@@eriks2962 Peter and the Pegasus Knights are not only the best units for speed runs but also minimum level no Healing Rain vs. spell-casters due to having higher base HP than other classes, they can tank spells and snipe heavy hitters using the Valkyrie attack buffs. I would probably want a few Paladins and Gladiators (especially against high attack units) as well to use as bait.

@@eben3357 Ah! good to know. I have never played the game for speedrunning. I used to do constrained runs though. My favorite constrained runs are: -no merchants -no spellcasters (except bowie) -only spellcasters Haven't done a run like that in about 20 years though. Good stuff. I should pick SF2 again

@@eriks2962 A great play through on Super difficulty is using a smaller force once you obtain the caravan. I promoted Peter at lv. 30 since he has land effect unpromoted and huge attack he can wait. My team consisted of overpowered Bowie, Sarah, Jaha, Kazin, Peter, Gerhalt and Randolf. No repeat battles and a complete cakewalk. The reduced units earns more exp and means the battles much easier. Use a big Jaha on 30% land efect tiles to lure out enemies. As far as speed-runs go, it's all about Peter and the PGNTs. Healers don't even get used, maybe Frayja but I am not sure. The strategy is to snipe bosses with an attack boosted Peter and keep a low level Bowie alive.

Lvl 99 omg ! Well done ! Personally I do this : instead of immediately promoting my troops I let them until lvl 30. I discovered indeed that in shining force 2 you keep the bonuses of these extra lvls before promoting. So it it is quite hard reaching lvl 30-35 but then the game becomes much easier. This game is still one of my all time favorite tactical games

I did this years ago using game genie. I remember in the original zeon fight he never once used demon breath on Bowie, attacked me everytime for 1hp which made it really easy. I was thinking for my next playthough just playing legit but using only Bowie Sarah Jaha and Chester to see if its possible

That's the thing. I wish I could have done it without using any healing, like in Shining Force 1, but there's just so much randomness in play. If the enemies decide to just attack you, the fight become a joke. BUT with SOOOO many enemies that can cast spells, ignoring your defense, if they decide to just abuse it, then you're pretty much dead without any source of healing. And then there's the Red Baron, which is just a gamble capable of ending your run if Desoul works on you. It took me SOOOOO long to finally get a run where the Red Baron didnt kill me, and I didnt got destroyed by a barrage of spells, so I swallowed my pride and accepted that I used healing items. Even though that last one was useless, but I couldnt be sure if Zeon would use his breath 2 turns in a row, ending my run...

@@DracMazoku yeah i did end up abusing save states on the fight before zeon due to all the magic casters hitting hard so i could save all my healing items for zeon but come to find out i didnt need any. That fight is what worries me about using just 4 members with all the magic hitting hard in that room

It's been a while, but I can guess that I was thinking that it would prevent Oddeye from advancing if I was at a safe distance, since Odd-eye beam ignore defense so I was trying to stay away until Cameela was dead...it failed it seems 🤣

@@justTyping Indeed, just to say, I remember it took me hours to finally have a playthrough of this battle where I wasnt just spammed with spells everywhere, without the Red Barron 1-hit KOing me with his death spell, so I will take those small imperfections 🤣. I also wanted to do a no healing run like I did with Shining Force 1, but unfortunately I just couldnt. Too many spell-casters ignoring my defense and that all get 2 turns. It might be possible, but its all down to RNG, not actual strategy. Maybe one day I'll revisit it, but not for a loooong while.

@@DracMazoku I dont think no heal is really possible. Odd-Eye, King Galam and Zeon would need to attack normal instead of there special attack. They hardly do it. You need 4 hits to kill Zeon. He alone need only 5 or 6 breath attack to kill you and he gets 6 attacks. Galam needs 3 Hits too. so Galam has 4 Attacks on you. Also no block on enemy side especially on Zeon and Galam. Would really by an RNG wonder if you do so.

Is that even possible to level up hero to lvl 99? Monk, healer level 99 is very doable though. I remember having 2 monks and 2 vicars at max. They were just ops.

When character reach 20 level he or she can be promoted and then starting new job from level one, but SAVE all characteristics they have before promotion. So, this Bowie has not 99 level (in strenghts) but at least 119 (99+20) . Technically, if grind MC to 99 level before promotion, and then grind him to 99 level again , resulting monstrosity 198 lv will be kill every monster in the game (well, maybe except the final boss) in one hit. Never do this myself though, I only one time grind every member of my team to level 40 (healers much more) and easily won all battles without casualties, because they was much stronger then usual (when you promote them on 20 lv, that is).

Odd that secret stage can only get a Dark Smoke & Prism Flowers as enemies, rather than their stronger versions, Mist Demon & Zeon Guard.

Its not a secret stage, it is a mod. The base game had no boss battle like this.

Doing a Solo Bowie run on ouch is the most fun you can have playing this game. Its the only way to play SF2. The Grind is for real 1xp at around level 19 and trying to level up to 40. I remember when i did one run of no promotion's at all for any of the characters, what a run that was, having bowie at the final battle has a swordsman along with everyone else at their base class if they were not swap out.

Hard to tell, since past 99, they only show ??. But I was reseting a lot, so I guess they must be near 200 (which is the cap from what I've read). It took a few hours of grinding using the Protect Ring trick.

@@orza6882 Once you get the Protect Ring, enter a random fight, use it on your party and you should get a good amount of XP, then on your next turn, use egress with the hero, repair the ring if it has a crack, and rinse and repeat the whole process.

Never thought about doing this. It's a hard enough fight to do with 12! Just went through it, Bowie at level 50, rest of my A-Team at level 35, and only lost Peter. Had quite a few wounded though as I got hit with 2 Demon breath in a row. I put Zeon down in 1 round plus 1extra hit from Bowie.

I think you can setup two ranged attack and peter in the back so that zeon can only hit one at a time. Two demon breath on archers/bolt3 mages are likely to kill them, but two on peter likely won't kill him. That's a lot of "free" hits on the boss. After that, he is kind of free since you can gang up on him.

@@brandontucker2989 protect ring trick. Use the item on yourself and a bunch of others characters, then egress. If the ring gets a crack fix it, then get out of town to enter another random battle. Rinse and repeat until max level.
