Indeed. I distinctly remember watching this show as a young child, and bursting into tears whenever the end credits came on. Even today, hearing this familiar song still makes me misty-eyed, and seeing the sign that says "You're Leaving Shining Time, Come Back Soon" makes me think, "But I didn't want to leave...."

SpongeBob (Seasons 1-3) is good in its own way. You watch it to get a good laugh. But I agree we need more kids programming like Shining Time and Seasons 1-11 of Thomas. Maybe that could save the next generation of kids from being obsessed with crap like Fortnite and Tik Tok.

@@R160A I grew up with this as well. And I would be honored to be Thomas's fireman if I had the chance. Sadly none of the real-life LB&SCR class E2 locomotives survived into preservation, although Porter Saddle tanks sometimes get converted to lookalikes.

I will readily admit that as a lifelong railroad buff, i watched this show very regularly as a small child, and yes, I would often cry when the ending credits came on. On the positive side, I was extremely fortunate to see Union Pacific #844 (the locomotive featured in the beginning and end of the show) up close this year at the Golden Spike Sesquicentennial.

It's really a shame that they don't show reruns of this today. It was such a fun show to watch and it introduced American audiences to thomas the tank engine which is still going strong to this day. So the fact that pbs or sprout isn't showing reruns of it in this day and age is a shame. We all love shining time and it should get more respect in my opinion.

No Thomas originated from Thomas and Friends in Britain which was based off of a book series called “The Railway Series”. It was only Shining Time in America to extend the runtime,so it could air on TV.

That Steam Train in the intro and ending is Union Pacific 844 one of the biggest locomotives 🚂 ever build. Plus it’s one of few steam locomotives still in service today.
