I've never heard any mainstream guys talk about him......they always talk about the dutch guys from the 80s who went over and fought the Thai & Japanese Stadium Champs....... This is probably due to the fact that Benny would negotiate to throw out things like "elbow or knee contact" ......sometimes even LOWKICKS!!! Now I understand why he probably did this but he was not as important as some later fighters in breaking into the big Thai Stadium matches.....that credit goes to Ramone Dekkers and Kaman......they ate all the elbows and knees EVERY time. Meaning, Benny fought a few Muay Thai rules fights, but more often did not.

@@mojo5093 I love Benny's style.....but you gotta admit, Ramone Dekkers went to the big Thai stadiums and beat them at their own game.....Kaman also had some incredible wins......check out some of his early K-1 style fights with Ernesto Hoost!!!

Benny would have been a great UFC fighter. I don’t know how good his grappling skills were , but with his supreme ring knowledge he would have learned quickly. The best full contact fighter the world has ever seen.

Agreed 100%. But those that KNOW...know about Benny. He's the real was and still is the real deal. Very gracious to martial arts movie stars like Jackie Chan. Willing to be the one to die. When clearly WE know Benny would have destroyed Chan in a ring. :) With EASE. Benny was a word champion. A fighter. One of the best. W/o KZbin we'd never have seen this fight. I'd give Benny more respect than Bruce Lee even. As Bruce was a "martial artist/movie star" not an ex-pro fighter. Didn't even compete yet talked a lot about "effective striking and economy of movement". He was never tested.

ベニー氏も良いが日本人選手のガッツ溢れる戦いに感動した。しかもアウエーで。日本国内で試合するとどうしても日本人びいきになってしまう。勝てそうな相手を選んで防衛するみたいな。10代の頃、この日本人選手だと思うがゲスト出演してたベニー氏の技術書でちょっと練習した記憶がある。共に死力を尽くした国境を越えた友情があったのかな。残念ながらモノになってはいないが男の子はいざという時に戦える覚悟を持つべきだ、例え弱くとも。コロナうんぬんで時間はたっぷりあるだろうし、自分への投資の期間と前向きにとらえればその後の人生の自信にもなる。

A true legend of the martial arts world. The first black belt magazine I bought had Mr. Urquidez on the cover with an article on leg kicking & how he applied them in his fights. I was a blue belt in WTF Taekwondo then & that was around 28 years ago, and the journey in martial arts had begun & it has not stopped yet. I still have a copy of training & fighting skills at home, didn't lose that one, lost your videos though. Thanks for sharing your skills & your memories of your fights that we never got to see or had access to in Australia. You are a martial arts & kickboxing legend
