Very interesting to learn about Glasgow and the Clyde since it is my new permanent home well it has been on and off since 2020 after growing up in the North East of Scotland but my sadly now passed away Dad John Brown was born in Glasgow and lived in Ibrox before moving to Eaglesham. My Grandfather also John Brown was a member of the Home Guard who apprehended Rudolph Hess in a field near the village. Interesting fact. I was transferred from Aberdeen to Clydebank with the Clydesdale Bank and saw my namesake's ship yard for the first time. I grew up thinking it must be in the family but I later found although my Grandfather worked in the shipyards as an engineer he never worked at John Brown's, but a relation of mine was Managing Director of the yard many years ago. I look forward to more of your content and I liked and subscribed.

Had not my van been off the road, and had not the local council been undertaking some landscaping of the area around the boat slip I use (rendering it out-of-bounds) during the period these liners were berthed, I'd have sailed up the Clyde and filmed them. It always irked that I never got near these fine ships in my wee boat. Having said that, if the security around the dock is as stringent as it appears to be from your video, maybe I'd have been growled at by the muckle warship across the way (or worse)? Dude, I was a big fan - and was delighted to have met - the very talented Graeme Obree (during my mad cycling years) and you sound exactly like the great man from Irvine. Enjoying your work, pal.

Thanks very much for the kind words. The day after I posted this video the ships left the dock and that evening a mate of mine called to say "see those ships, I have been looking at them for months from my work" as he was a fitter at the Aggregate industries yard on the opposite bank of the Clyde. :-D I was destined to never see them properly.

Thought you did rather well with the cruise ships, considering the security restrictions

Excellent, thanks for the effort in that heat. Loved the ST4 line near the end and one of my favourite things about this series is the traffic cone on the title sequence.

Thanks Graham, Im glad you are enjoying the series and I wondered if anybody would get the Voyage home reference.

What a shame you didn't see the cruise ships properly. I watched and filmed them arrive from the Ferry Green at Renfrew.

Always wondered what these where as they just appeared on the Glasgow skyline one day out of nowhere.

HMS Glasgow ? There were 8 "HMS Glasgow" before this one, you could almost make an episode about those ships :)

Wonder what the collective noun for HMS Glasgows would be? A deep fry of HMS Glasgows.

Aren't refugees housed in one of those cruise ships? That would explain the high security/anonymity.
@AstonishingGlasgow Жыл бұрын
Not these ones but there is a cruise ship there at the moment to house Ukrainian refugees.

@@AstonishingGlasgow Is it in the same dock area? If so, perhaps prying eyes are not welcomed by security.
@AstonishingGlasgow Жыл бұрын
It could be that of course but due to high value goods and equipment that arrives by ship and the dangers posed by people wandering around the dock there will always be high security there. Wonder how much of a prison it feels being on a ship and surrounded by razor wire? Cant be much fun.

Totally ironic and typical of the UK in many ways ..you can see the development of a warship pretty clearly but get no where near the docked cruise ships with refugees onboard…AKA HMS Glasgow it’s only national defence after all 😂😂 👍
