I can see this being very useful for a range of different industrial operations, dragging salvage to Reclaimers, mineables to a MOLE to avoid the quant timer, many ideas! =D

would be interesting to see if you could load up a herc with quant rocks and extract them all near the refinery. a crew of 3-4 people, 2 in mole/2 prospectors, 1 in the srv and 1 in the herc. could make for massive mining payouts

My mind went to an operation in BSG where Cylons towed Vipers into a battle undetected. This seems like a strategy Skunks might want to investigate? Imagine pulling an EM inert Hammerhead into a battle and letting it loose to power up and shred.

best thing about the SRV is I'm fairly sure it is un-stealable if the ship is locked you can't close the elevator even when you're on it and the elevator doesn't class as part of the ships network so you can't inner thought to close the door.

that sound would be great *just* for backing up to your target before you engage towing, like happens irl with vehicles with blind spots when they are backing up. it's a great vehicle to add with a variety of use cases. i can see towing and salvage teams working together in the future. already this year is looking like possibly being the start of a very bright future for Star Citizen and i am here for it.

That habitation area would be set up that way for the client you would be towing. As their ship might be damaged in a way that would effect the life-support or power. Thus just the 1 bed.

One pilot but room for a rescued pilot to chill while being towed back. It will be fun if you can tow asteroids because it has been shown that the SRV is quite capable of using a towed ship as a weapon by flying toward a target and then letting go :-) I wonder what an asteroid bombardment would do to an Idris?.

The one thing I noticed with tractor beam, you can't go too fast with it. It will disengage and drop the ship, I'm not sure of what speed you have to go with. Asteroid's are stationary objects, you can't move them, only mine them, it should be able to move any ship in the game, but the bigger the ship, the slower you might have to go.

Now the SRV will become a must for Pirate Orgs. The Mantis will stop ships for jumping and the SRV will stop them dead in their tracks.... CIG has created a monster.

Well, you would have at least a 3 vs 1 constellation for such a Situation. And lets be honest, No matter in what PvP Game, a 3:1 should always be a very likely win scenario for the group

The large ships are way heavier than most rocks so it can't be a mass issue, probably the rocks just aren't just set up for tractoring yet, patch notes said it's still incomplete feature.

You can tow a Ballistic or a tonk and so long as the shields and engines are off you can still fire the weapons (I saw it done although it could change). You are support to be able to tow asteroids but that is probably coming soon™

The game is evolving well, as most of the key functionalities are making it in. Ship tractor beams are huge for the game, and very convenient for cargo haulers. This combined with your Hangar area one day will make things so much more manageable.

If they could do so, there's no question that one of the first things that players will do is grab an asteroid and carry it to docking hangars. Set the rocks right in the door way. Then inside of stations, inside of cities, or possibly even use them as "bombs" to drop into armistice zones. 😆

I like these tests, however I'm wondering how well it works in atmo. Say someone's lost their thrusters on their ship and is on the ground, will the SRV or other vehicles be able to tow them into space and to a station for repairs? Will miners be able to find rocks on the surface and tow fragments to a MOLE in orbit or even the Orion in the future? It would be interesting to have a full range of tests in that setting

Mining idea: I recall a resource that is timed (idk, i dont play SC). What if, after breaking apart the rock, you towed that resource closer to a refiner THEN harvast it? Just a thought.

Pirates player have been testing it for pirateing . buy takeing down target ships shields then flying over and past to grab whole ship and warp out.

It's too bad the Search and Rescue Vehicle title is kind of null of the SRV as with the current implementations you cannot move someone's stranded ship that may be above the ground and out of reach of the owner. You would have to board and disable shields then move to which you may as well just give them a lift and let them board. Needs a permission granted option while shields engaged maybe.
