The Shipman 80 is a beautiful yacht. Well thought out design, and a delight to the eye.

This is a beautiful elegant yacht, what I call an "in between". That is, its behaviour and character lies in between the giant fast planing uncomfortable ones that shudder all your bones, and the slow displacement type with a very comfortable ride where the hull comes to an agreeable peace treaty with any oncoming wave that tries to bully it into a fight! I like the hull, and this is what I call a sinusoidal truncated hull, where the bow penetration/pearcing is good, and the wave is distributed around and under the hull to behave as a semi-planing craft where all movements are kind to the human bone structure by letting the displacement part stay in the water while the planing part is only about 50 % Its natural limiting speed is clearly shown at 2.03, where the hull is sinking in the wave of its own making. The bow wave is not too high, while the peak of the rear wave is about six metres behind the transom, At that instant, the hull must have sunk about half a meter as the water disappeared from the full midsection such that the wave resistance at that speed is high and to push it uphill any harder means trouble.The balance between the front immersion and the rear suction down due to a moderate wide transom is excellent as with the sails driving hard downwind, the hull is remaining perfectly horizontal, I shall not talk about the finishing as I am an engineer! But it is obvious that I am appreciating all the arts and comforts too. Congratulations to all those who had anything to do with designing, building and owning this yacht. May you enjoy it and give pleasure to onlookers like me many thousands of miles away and still appreciating the spectacle at my own home, My Spirit is with you. If only I was any younger!

I dont understand one thing. The company spends thousands of dollars making this video and then they upload it in 480p, coud you not spend an extra $100.00 and make it hi-def? Nice boat btw.

Muiltihulls are toys unless you can afford stuff like an AC72 or other proper cat. Monohulls have a hull speed of 1.3 x square root of Waterline length. Doesn't mean that's where they stop. That's simply the speed at which they enter semi-displacement, and start to plane. Open 70's do 35kts+. I've personally done 19kts on a Shipman 67, without pushing it hard. These are fully carbon boats, with carbon standing rigging. Serious machines, capable of planing.

IT IS VERY RARE FOR A KEELBOAT TO ROLL OVER, at worst you get a B2 knockdown where your mast hits the water but by then you have no wind in the sails, and the weight of the keel brings her back up, er unless the keel snaps off------

a great one

@rogerbliss4711 жыл бұрын
A B2 knockdown would have the boat rolling upside down and remaining there. A B1 knockdown is a violent uncontrollable knockdown to where the mast hits the water and the keel then brings her back up. A B2 would be very difficult in this boat unless she lost her keel. Keel boats rarely experience any kind of knockdown because they spill so much wind as they heel. This boat is designed to minimize the heel and does not get a heavy helm in a hard heel because of the twin rudders.
