When I had my bus's 6V92 completely rebuilt I requested a Landoll, and what's more one whose driver is familiar with buses. It took 30 minutes to load it, and less time than that to unload it, with no damage at all. Cheap it wasn't, but quality work never is.

Landoll trailers are very expensive, they are also pretty heavy. But in cases like this it's exactly what you need. I've used one, they have a 6 degree loading angle with the travelling axles.

Maybe I’m wrong but with some of the taller coaches (MCI are 11’6”, not including A/C’s on the roof) I would think a long enough 3 axle landoll to transport a 40 foot coach would put the overall height over 13’6” wouldn’t it? I mean I know they’re low but I’ve never seen a landoll with a deck height under 36”, you have to get a lowboy to get something that low.

My dad got a Grayhound 1958 PD4104 with a 6-71 in 1972 from Grayhound minus wheels and tires for 9500.00. Picked it up in Louisville KY and drove it back to Dearborn MI. I was 11 at the time and me and my dad spent the next couple years converting it. Great memories and I learned a tone helping him. Added two roof AC units, Kohler 6500 watt 4 cylinder in the small bay behind the driver plus all the other stuff on the inside to make it a true motorhome. Took our first trip at the 6 month mark with just a pair of fold down seats and table (ones used to make a bed with the table removed) in the front and three fold down couches in the back with a toilet in the middle surround by a curtain on a rope. Went to NJ on the trip and sill have pictures of each person on the trip sitting on the toilet LOL... That was the days. Would get 9 to 9.5 MPG and with 140 gallon tank could go from Detroit to FL on one fill-up. Would hate to pay to fill it up with todays prices :(. Good to see another 4104 being fixed up.

No doubt many of those who follow your excellent YT channel were shaking their head at this situation. Transporting this bus by tractor-trailer from VA to TN is approx. 750 miles. As you know, Landoll is an industry leader in ground loading trailers. There are other similar type makes as well. 5 to 60 tons. Deck lengths up to 53 ft. I've had countless buses moved over the years. A typical load / unload on to, off of a Landoll-type ground loading trailer is approx. 15 mins. Winch on, winch off. Taking 7 hrs, using 2 heavy lift recovery cranes is nuts. As reported, the bus owner here paid $3,000. for the cranes to load. I pay $0.00 for the roll on, roll off, load, offload. In addition, the bus owner paid $4,000. for the trucking, for a total of $7,000. Bottom line -- hire the right truck-trailer. The cost to transport this bus should have been around $3,000. all in. Not $7,000. As for the bus, I don't see it -- but that's another story. Thanks for showing us this. Keep up the excellent work Scott! What you do is special and important.

I’m a trucker myself, and have experience in oversized/heavy haul….yes, a Landoll tilt-bed trailer would’ve been preferable but this RGN isn’t necessarily “wrong”. The problem was in how it was loaded onto the trailer…and that’s on whoever was directing traffic in terms of how it was done. Long story short, you get what you pay for….

They have $8000+ into a bus that cost probably $10,000, needs $10,000 in just mechanical work, and finally $60,000 to convert or remodel. So $88,000 not so bad for a bus class RV, but you need good bones to start with.

@Wingnut353 Жыл бұрын
If you have a 40ft bus... you only have another 13 ft of possible trailer length in most states which as you can see here is occupied by tires. So yeah probably not possible. Which is why you need a trailer with a movable axle (basically a trailer rollback). The other type that would work probably is the non lowboy version of this but you'd have potential bridge clearance issues.
@robertquast9684

@cusbrar1 oh, you must be a expert in hauling equipment. Yes there are longer lowboy trails and yes you can drive up on the rear tires and they have CDL now so that it doesn't matter what state you are in the laws are the same on the interstates and if you know the state that you are delivering to you check to see what permits you need.. As an operator of light-duty and medium-duty tow trucks in the US, I can attest that damages caused by the tow truck operator are covered by the tow company's insurance - though most will pay directly to avoid the claim being filed, and then deduct it from the operator's pay, if they don't fire him for it. I've got to assume that it works much the same way in heavy-duty towing.

You would think that at first glance, until you realize how few of these are left and how sought after they are becoming. There are even vehicle brands out there that are so rare that even a rusted away wreck with almost nothing but a rusted out rear axle left is HIGHLY worth the millions/trillions of dollars a restorastion would cost. Just look at VW beetles/buses from the 50's-60's and willys jeeps, here in sweden ppl want almost as much for those in rusted out sat in a field for 50 years condition as for a brand new luxuary car.

Longer trailers, extension type low bed (specialist) Ideally it should or could be picked up using the wheels and obviously the spreader bars of the Rotator truck or crane ,Ron Platt from midwestern towing has lifted buses up by the wheels . Obviously there maybe more buses coming to you this way ,I would open up your gates and entrance so the trucks have more room to manoeuvre. Be nice if they could back in ,if the gates were twice the width that they are now .and have you considered an old truck to tow these buses up the hill ?or bulldozer with a winch ?

Shame about all the extra damage. I guess the cost falls under the bus owner or the transport crew.👍👍

That bus should have gone on either a stretch rgn or a Kalyn Siebert low step deck/oil field trailer (that are specifically made to transport coaches and buses)

Wow. That’s a dang shame. They definitely shouldn’t have used that trailer. Not a single person stopped and said this isn’t going to work. What a shame.

Very very cool bus…. Tough trip, but at least it’s in the right place now. Let’s just hope they didn’t blow their budget on towing and can fund the resurrection.

The curse of the large toys is the cost of transporting them. I wish the people involved would have been more knowledgeable, it would of kept prices lower and damages to a minimum.

That apparently is the correct trailer type, but simply the incorrect size.

A lowboy, 2 tow trucks, one being a heavy boom crane took 7 hrs to load. There's so many crimes in that. I would have had it loaded in under 2 hrs without a tow truck.

I have hauled several on a lowboy. No issues. Last one i did cost me $500 for tow truck at that time. It was boom boom. 20 to 30 minutes.it was on the trailer. Granted for this one.. idk how much the rear was binding up. Giving them issues. Or how they were trying to load it. Im betting super short steep step the rear had to climb to gst ass up was part of issue. When i did mine i had 10ft boards for ramps. Small incline that stepped up to height i needed.
