From City To Gritty

Күн бұрын

Sarah and I have done a ton of work the last 2 weeks on the Gritty Homestead container house. We electricity, water and AC! We started on the aerobic above ground IBC tote septic system and have laid our groundwork for off-grid water, solar and power generation. Thank you for watching.
We get married next week! more updates to come after the wedding.

On that last tank, put a Chlorine doser pump to help kill any left over bacteria for discharge. Any city sewage is processed this way for discharge.

Brian G I have considered it. I am on the fence though. One of the big things we are trying to get away from is fluoride, chlorine and other pollutants in the drinking water that we are forced to drink in the city unless you self filter. I would feel guilty pumping chlorine on my garden or in the drain field.
@Vytor01
@Vytor01 7 жыл бұрын
The Chlorine will vent off and be destroyed by UV which is why pools have to be constantly maintained. Also, when it rains, pollutants are being spread on your garden anyway. Nothing is free. Think about what you have built, and its effects on the environment. That ore for that shipping container needed to be produced, the equipment to mine it had its effect on the environment, etc. All you are doing with the chlorine is killing pathogens going into or onto your land. Very little chlorine is actually used.

Brian G how about skipping the chlorine and using a UV light in the last tank, any thoughts?
@Vytor01
@Vytor01 7 жыл бұрын
You could do that, but remember the trade off. You will be replacing expensive bulbs and using your precious off grid electricity to run it all the time. A dose of chlorine could be had in tablet form or a small dosing pump. The pump only runs when in dosing mode. Cheep pumps can be had easily.

From City To Gritty or you could go with a distiller then use charcoal filter to take any chemicals that may be in there (chemicals vapor off at lower temp than water)..... and the health benefits of true pure distilled water are out of this world (and plants LOVE it)

G'day Sarah and partner... Like your work and wonder if you can send me a link or two for the aerobic? septic system. I'm building an off-grid camp at Angledool near the opal fields of Lightning Ridge NSW Oz.

is it safe and up to code on the electric wires touching the metal walls
@fromcitytogritty9122
@fromcitytogritty9122 7 жыл бұрын
Mickey Mouse it is no different than running wires through a metal conduit. Any holes drilled through the steel have plastic bushings. I have a master electrician in the family that has been checking my work for safety. Is everything up to perfect code, I doubt it. But the great thing about being in the middle of nowhere is there are no codes to follow.

Mickey Mouse I will sit down and put a pencil to it when I get more finished. My goal is to have the entire home done for less than $25k. I have done every bit of. Work myself (except moving the containers) and I buy my materials used or at a discount.

From City To Gritty southern California for now. probably going to start building it down here and finish it up in Oregon . I'm worried about drywall cracking and bathroom tile cracking on transit.

From City To Wild I agree, that is why I went with the osb walls and floated my backsplash on the studs. I looked inside while mine where being moved by the skid loader and there is a lot of movement in the walls and floor.

No moist barrier on the walls. Your kitchen won't last 5 years.Rotten
@fromcitytogritty9122
@fromcitytogritty9122 7 жыл бұрын
hercules3782 thank you for your opinion. The entire home has a radiant/moisture barrier between the polyiso insulation and the container. The space between the radiant barrier and steel will be ventilated to reduce condensation. The kitchen will have concrete board and and backsplash on the walls. Placing another moisture barrier will actually create a moisture trap. Regards.

trying to be funny? all that good work, and a nice kitchen, it certainly not a cheap kitchen, has already started to rot. All the work shows knowledge, and skill, how could they miss this? I hope they have seen the comment. They can check on any container builds on the net, the inside wall will always be wet in a steel container without barrier. Mostly done with foam, but there are sticky sheets for this job as well, also there is a paint you can use. To bad, with all this work.
