In this video we wrap up the shipping container shelving build. Our goal was to have sturdy shelves without pentrating the side walls or the roof of our shipping container. Watch to see how we accomplished this.
_______________________________________________________
Edited to add dimensions of shelves as listed below:
LEFT SIDE SHELVES
Framing Dimensions Overall (HxWxD): 96x90x25.5
Shelf Dimensions:
96x24
Top Shelf: 85” off floor
Bottom Shelf: 28” off floor
RIGHT SIDE SHELVES
Framing Dimensions Overall (HxWxD): 96x90x27
Shelf dimensions:
96x25.5
Top shelf: 85” off floor
Bottom Shelf: 28” off floor
I hope this helps.

I mean if you aren't bringing in any moisture from outside its not an issue. Worse case scenario, run a dehumidifier for a half a day and pull any moisture out.

Super job & video. I'm working on the same project but 20' container. Watched many vids on the topic, and you're the 1st & only that has shown how to fasten studs to container with the adhesive approach. That's my plan, to avoid penetrating the skin of a watertight vessel ( ex-Navy, and can't see putting unnecessary holes in the hull!!! 12:45 ). Good detail on what's to me, the critical step in the process. Thank you, and thanks to your photographer for asking the question of what adhesive (earlier in the series) you're using!

'Nother good idea from your build: narrow the shelf frame and extend the shelf deck out to the front of the aisle studs. I'll try to gang the pre-cut shelf decks (OSB for 16" wide shelves) on edge and cut all the stud pockets with a circular saw to serve as indexes for the mildly wavy/bowed front studs. Also, by precutting the shelf supports (5/8" salvage, 1-1/4" wide) I'll have something to pull the horizontals to. If all goes well I may have to trim only the top set of supports. Incidentally, my build is 6 units 8' long but only 5'-8" high. Been puzzling over lateral sway braces... maybe salvage steel strapping ?

I am wonder how are temperatures inside during the winter and summer?
@usmcgunz1066
@usmcgunz1066 2 ай бұрын
Well, here in south MS winters are really not an issue. Summers on the other hand are brutally hot and humid here. This blue container that I built the shelves in is right against the tree line. It stays shaded pretty well which helps a lot with the heat. So it’s not too bad in it until July through late August. Everything is hot then. I have since purchased a second container and where it sits is not shaded. It is definitely hotter in that one. I did add a solar fan to it and that helps a little. But it’s no miracle. Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting.

would you drill and insert 1/4" or 3/8" galvanized carriage bolts into the vertical 2x and the container wall to prevent any movement?
@usmcgunz1066
@usmcgunz1066 Жыл бұрын
My goal was to not penetrate the container walls or ceiling/roof (to prevent any leaking). By bracing the left side shelves against the right side shelves with the top 2x cross members, I was able to achieve this. It essentially locks the shelves into place without the need to drill through the container. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks alot. This will work out great for my build. I'll probably have to buy 2x4 for the legs since I have a "high cube" container thats 9.5ft tall vs 8.5ft and I don't think my local home depot has 10ft 2x3s

Would these work for heavy items? I just bought a 40’ High cube to store ceramic molds. My husband says no. He doesn’t think The L-brackets will hołd. Aby thoughts?
@usmcgunz1066
@usmcgunz1066 9 ай бұрын
The L brackets I used were only for attaching the “legs” to the floor. Under the framing for each shelf I have 2x3 blocking to support them (see 11:10 - end of video) . This makes them quite sturdy. I would guess each individual shelf could hold 300 lbs or more. Hope this helps. And thanks for watching and commenting.

Container shelves dimensions: LEFT SIDE SHELVES Framing Dimensions Overall (HxWxD): 96x90x25.5 Shelf Dimensions: 96x24 Top Shelf: 85” off floor Bottom Shelf: 28” off floor RIGHT SIDE SHELVES Framing Dimensions Overall (HxWxD): 96x90x27 Shelf dimensions: 96x25.5 Top shelf: 85” off floor Bottom Shelf: 28” off floor I hope this helps.
