This video is awesome. Exactly what I’ve been looking for man. Thanks for the quality. I don’t usually comment but I expected the views and likes to be higher so I thought I would.

A way to get into UCSB easier is to become a California resident. Go to community college and get an associates degree and complete IGETC. California law says the university must accept you if you have an associates degree. That's who I got in with a 2.5 GPA from Ventura College.

Here are my 5 tips on how to get UCSB: 1. Make sure you have a very strong GPA (at least a 4.0 weighted GPA [and this includes honors, AP, IB and/or Community College] or better) and take lots of challenging classes (e.g., Honors, AP, IB and/or Community college classes). And do not slack off in the senior year. If you get a D or F in your senior year or admissions officers see a significant decline in academic performance, you can kiss your admissions to UCSB or any university goodbye. 2. Make sure you have strong extracurricular activities. For example, if you are a President of a Club at your school or you were a participant to the Local, State or National Science and Engineering Fair or you were an Eagle Scout (which is the highest honor Boy Scouts) and/or that you are an athlete, mention it on your college resume. 3. Make sure you write a damn good college application essay (For example, if you come from a disadvantaged background, write how you overcome those disadvantages). Use humor in your essay and that will make admissions officers like you. And make sure you answer the question in a strong and coherent way and have strong spelling and grammar. 4. Submit your test scores to the university (e.g., AP exam scores, SAT subject Test scores, SAT/ACT) if you feel you did well enough on those exams. In fact, I knew one person (he is the son of my next-door neighbors) who was on the waiting list for UCSB last year and submitted his ACT score of 32, his AP test scores and his grades including the first half of his senior year (which was a slightly improvement from his overall GPA of his first three years in high school. Note to self, he had a 4.15 GPA for the first three years, but first half of his senior year was a 4.2 GPA). It was enough for him to get into UCSB last year and he now has finished his first year of UCSB. He is an Econ Major with an Accounting emphasis. 5. Attend a campus tour of UCSB. Be on your best behavior. Meet with an admission officer if you can and tell them why you really want to attend UCSB badly (e.g., I love learning and would like to be challenged to my full potential and I love doing fun activities like biking, swimming, surfing, etc. In addition, I love hanging out with smart people and I would like to make a difference at UCSB and beyond.) The person who got off the waiting list last year attended a campus tour and even asked an admissions officer "Is there anything I can do to get off the waiting list for UCSB and if so, what can I do to get off the waiting list for UCSB?". The admissions officer told him, "Yes, you can get off the waiting list, but you need to send me an academic transcript including your GPA and test scores and write a two-page type written essay on why you want to attend UCSB badly and why we should admit you to UCSB. Send all of this to me on or before May 1, and then I will make a decision on whether you will be attending UCSB for Fall of 2023 or not." Those are my tips on how to get into UCSB. Good luck to anyone applying to UCSB. UCSB is prestigious but arduous to get into. It is not far off from the difficulty or getting into UCLA, UC Berkeley, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Georgetown or any Ivy League school.

Shirish - when you say they accept only domestic students for UG scholarship, does that mean studying just 12th in US will suffice ? Or what is the criteria here

Hey Shirish, I’m really surprised by the quality of video and the way you explained everything. You deserve a million subscribers for sure. I’m applying for masters in CS at UCSB (Fall 23). I have a GRE 321, IELTS 7, I have 1.5 years job experience and 3 CS projects and 0 Research papers. I have also done volunteering work and have a small KZbin channel. I’m about to apply for UCSB tomorrow but I’m skeptical about it whether I will get or not . Do you think I have a shot ? I should apply here or I should prefer other UCs like Santa Cruz. If you can answer this then it would be great help to me. Thanks

Hi bud! Thanks for your kind words. I think you do have a chance at UCSB. I have mentored students with your similar profile to UCSB, i just hope have done a good job on your SOP as that is very important. You can apply to UCSC as well if you want
