The son of the writer of this song says his datd originally offered this song to Barbra Streisand. She said that although she loved this song, she just could not doit as it was beyond both her emotional and vocal reach. The only other person during this time that came to mind with amazing golden pipes was Shirley Bassey from the United Kingdom. Shirley said, sure, I'd love to record this song. Shirley also performed this song live numerous times in the 1970s, and her burst of power at the end is nothing short of incredible.
