I love all of Malice Mizer's work, but I think Merveilles was their best musical period. Mana and Kozi are full of creativity, but it was best when held under the control of a major label. Merveilles is relatable to more people, and has the largest collection of catchy songs in a single album. Yohei Shimeda, their producer, should also receive a lot more credit than he did, he is the one who helped shape their sound through the years.

except they weren't doing what they were doing to be "more relatable" or to grab a larger audience. Their manager wanted this (I mean it's their job I get it).But success isn't measured by how relatable you are. They still filled the Budokan two days for this show. (They also filled the Toyosu Pit for two days last week end, where I was lol) My fav era is this one (After Gackt left) for this exact reason. Return to the control by the members, the original label (Mana's indie label) and fucking avant garde creative incredible quality of work that will never be equaled. Yes I'm biased.

Somehow "Japanese" & "Goth" just doesn't sound right together... but this band shows it can work... but I am not sure "Goth" even describes these guy's music. Undescribable is likely a better choice.

+Simmekakibackup2 Koujo I can. First off tho, are we taking Musically or style (style meaning Visual Kei)? Musically, Voyage and Merveilles aren't tied down by any sort of musical distinction; however Uruwashiki Kamen no Shoutaijo, is a prominent song where that does not apply. Memoire DX is an interesting mix of very Baroque style writing but hardly Gothic. Bara No seidou musically and visually is their most gothic theme over all. Shiori and Hakai no hate stand at the top of the "most gothic songs" on that album. Their most notable gothic outfits are Illuminati PV and The photo set during the Klaha era in SHOXX magazine.
