Something really interesting that I just noticed about Mario themes is that they all seem to have a brief introduction to the theme, making it easier to identify. Perhaps that explains why they are so catchy, since, at least for the first Mario bros and Mario 64 probably the most known/remembered sections of the main themes are the introduction and maybe a couple measures after it.

The reason the Mario music is so happy is because there are chords in the songs that strike a feeling in us. The chords are: vi (minor sixth) II (major second) iv (minor fourth) bVI (flatsix) bVII (flat seventh) A few of these chords are non-diatonic, they're not in the key of whatever the one is. I have huge nostalgia with the Super mario 3d world's overworld theme. I first got a wii u for christmas at about 2016 when I was 5, and I remember getting Super mario 3d World, Mario Kart 8, and also splatoon because I asked for it. I sometimes just randomly get on my wii u to this day even tho we have a switch today and even tho the wii u was hated and didn't sell very well the wii u will always have a special place in my heart :)
