I actually liked this version of Dante. Considering all the shit he been through. He had to have had one to two phases of seriousness. Where he wasn't being a wholesome funny man. This game could have worked, if the gameplay and story wasn't too on the poor side.

Well that’s not why he was like this in this game. I had a couple of theories but I think it turned out, judging by a DMC novel, it was because Dante was utterly bored and couldn’t enjoy himself because it was so damn easy. He literally kills a god whose presence alone was essentially fusing two universes, and it was supposedly a cakewalk

Jokes aside, if this game would get a full remake, and some rework in the story and gameplay, I would bet this could be one of the strongest in the franchise. This game atmosphere in RE Engine would look incredible - dark and mysterious. This game has a cool tone, but failed in the execution part. I actually like Dante's animations here a lot. Even you can not perform crazy stuff like in DMC 3,4 and 5 they are still unique.

Even though I never played this one myself, it honestly looks appealing to me. I love the darker tone and character/enemy designs, the edgier visual style and the more grungey music. Like you have a really badass looking game here. it's kinda shameful that the game failed so much that they did a complete U-turn with Devil May Cry 3. Like I love DMC3 but you look at how far more lighthearted and comedic that game tonally is compared to 2, you feel like something was just "lost" in this game. All this game had to do was not be so clunky... have better swordplay and more fluid movement, and there probably would literally be nothing wrong with it. Heck I'm pretty sure you could easily turn DMC2 into a good game with just mild tweaks and some extra features added. I kinda wish the DMC modding community was more complex than it was because I feel like this game has so much potential that's not really that hard to salvage. The real issue with the game is I think it just didn't have enough time in the oven and enough quality control... it's like you have 90% of a game there but just the bells and whistles and more complex features aren't there. It's like a Sonic 06 problem... like you _almost_ had a great game. That's why the game is depressing because you see so much potential and it just missed because it didn't get enough oversight or some shit

@@zrexx9428 yes I agree 100%! I also think this game had/has a lot potential. I heard that the main director of the game, was pretty unknown, and when CAPCOM handed over the sequel to him, and they later returned to look how far he progressed, well they were really disappointed. So they fired him and replaced in the last minute with another director, the same one is responsible for DMC3, and 5 now. I think the problem lays in the different visions different directors tried to realize with this sequel. The new director came into the field in the last four months of development. So he basically just tried to glue the game together and made it a playable game. But I kinda liked the vision of the first director, the more darker tone, the more serious tone. It suits also very well this Dante, after all what happened to him in 3 and 1. He is kinda depressed, and that’s understandable. If they just had more time and agreed on one vision for this game and executed it.. then I believe this game would have been great. That’s why a remake of 2 I would like to see the most. With a full achieved vision of DMC2 remake in RE Engine! But that will I guess not happen. Most fans would like to see a DMC 3 remake (me included). But damn.. DMC2 has something no other DMC game has to offer. I also have the feeling most haters didn’t even played the game and just join the hate train, for whatever reasons. EDIT: Yeah, I really like the music here too. The thought I had, I wanna to add here: Because of DMC2 rock bottom development and final build, we got DMC3… so it was in a weird way an accomplishment. They really went beyond perfection with DMC3. So many revolutionizing ideas came from the development of DMC3. They pushed themselves to the absolute limits and pushed the PS2 to the absolute limit. Because they knew if DMC3 will not land with people, then the franchise is dead. Yeah it’s just weird that DMC2 catalyzed DMC3. Let’s hope one day we get a proper DMC2 remake.

It may sound unpopular opinion but I wished devil may cry 2 would have been remake similar to resident evil 4 dead space and Final Fantasy VII Remakes with advancements and improvements over the qualities visuals graphics voice actings writings dialogues game mechanics weapons enemies bosses plots storylines concepts characters especially Dante personalities characterizations and developments Being true and aligned to DMC 3 1 4 or 5 also reconstructing updating revamped Improved and fixing the worst and weakest parts of game and expanding enriched enhanced and augmented the best most redeeming and enjoyable aspects of devil may cry 2 especially having all elements from devil may cry 5 like game mechanics weapons combos gameplay executions and AI while modernizing updating reinvigorating and retaining all mechanics gameplays AI and best parts of devil may cry 2 to have own things while being faithful and respectful to original game while being bigger better overall superior and climactic than original game just like devil may cry 5 also hopefully it remake of DMC2 shall have Lucia a bigger roles spotlights and upgrades she rightfully deserves
