I love how Heimdall's whole thing in this version is that he LITERALLY sees the worst in people. He looks into people's eyes and sees the worst possible thing they can do. I imagine it's probably the main reason he serves Thor and Odin, they're the only people who he can't find a way to avoid, outthink, threaten, or otherwise defeat.

I love the irony of Heimdall saying "True Power doesn't feel the need to flaunt" after literally telling Atreus his whole backstory, and him bitching about "revisionist history" after telling a blatantly revisionist lie, all with the most gloating tone in his voice. I really love how they portrayed Odin in the game. Usually Odin is that muscle pig old man with in a golden palace, when in the mythologic he's that smartass trickster obsessed with knowledge, even mutilating himself to obtain it. Charming and powerful, a true god of widsom. Yes they adapted so he can become a full fledged villain, but anyway in general I'm happy with what they did. A skinny wizard old man, that's exactly how Odin would be if he was real.

I have not seen the full story yet, but from what I can tell right now Odin is basically suffering from the same problem the Greek pantheon did. Wonder if Odin in this story could have been a genuine ally and friend of Kratos had he not been so obsessed with prophecy and knowledge.

It's funny how they make use of prophecy in this. The prophecy of ragnarok was played out to the aesir so they all knew what to expect, and that Loki would be the cause of it. So when Atreus appears, known to them as Loki, they already have complete preconceived notions of Atreus' actions being in asgard, even before Atreus himself knowns anything, having mistrust and backstabbing aimed at him without him even have reason to act against them. The irony being, the prophecy caused this mistrust which helped lead to conflict against someone without intent to cause trouble to begin with, sort of self fulfilled. The only except being Odin, who thinks he can outplay prophecy and use Atreus for his own goals, change fate.

10:37 I like the little touch at 10:37 when odin and doesn't know where heimdall is for a sec because he's standing on odin's blind side because he has one eye.

When I got to this part, I remember thinking that odin wasn't such a bad dude. But after finishing the game, I can see it was just expert manipulation.

10:34 this was the moment I realized that Odin was going to be one of the best villains in any video game I've ever played. He's told straight up by Heimdall, a mind-reader, that Atreus is planning on betraying him. And what is his response? "Yeah, of course he is. That's the only reason he would come here." I immediately was taken aback, then thought "this guy is quite the slick-talking schemer."

Ngl, if we the audience didn't know any better, I'd be pretty convinced by Odin's false hospitality, especially when compared to how scary Heimdall and Thor act. It makes sense how easily he could deceive so many people. A trickster god through and through.
