Things people should understand about this that a lot Ff7 fans get completely wrong. Clouds mind here is scrambled by the Mako experiments done on him and he is basically a vegatable with trauma. Cloud crawls to Zack with sheer willpower and Zacks first words to him is to survive for the both of them, that his honor and dreams are now Clouds and that Cloud is his living legacy. These words help Cloud reconstruct his scrambled thoughts by replacing the trauma with his own memories of Zack, adopting Zacks identity and actions. Some people seem to think Cloud has Zacks personal memories and personality which is false. Instead Cloud uses Zacks words to fix his mind and help him forget his trauma which is why he gets headaches anytime he is reminded of his Trauma in FF7. Cloud does not carry Zacks personal memories or personality but merely adopts his identity as a 1st class Soldier.

Eeeehhhhh sort of. It has been confirmed that Jenova cells allow the sharing of memories and such and back in the original those white flashes when Tifa finds Cloud at the station has been confirmed to be the cells rewriting his memory. The part about Cloud being a vegetable with trauma is 100% accurate but yeah it’s a mix of him repressing the memories and Jenova cells making him mimic Zack far more accurately. (You can actually see this in the Remake with how he sits and some of his mannerisms which are mimicking Zack more than just from observation)

Cloud mimics the 1st class Soldier of Zacks but is also extremely different in personality and actions. People think Cloud has Zacks memories and personality which is completely wrong.

They kept it because there is no other ending. The remake is not what people think it is. The living Zack is not as alive as you guys think and the story is not about timelines but altered memories or something similiar. So surviving characters are still actually dead. Do not act surprised if we bump into a Zack and eventually we get the twist that nothing we see happened physically.

The whispers were supposed to ensure the story of the original ff7 continued to happen. When defeated, a new timeline was created. Tseng and Cissnei wanted to keep Cloud and Zack alive, so that he would get the letters from Aerith. I love this trope of the hero being defeated but only because they were weakened. Zack normally would never lose to shinryu's army of humans, 1st class were made to be able to solo entire armies. (Which is why sephiroth's weapon is so long, to literally reap as a many as possible). However he just bearly lived against genisis, while degrading is on par with his power, and buffed by the literal gawd of the world. Not to mention the psychological pain he was in, constantly protecting and carrying cloud. His friends, comrades and hero's were all dead (genisis' condition would of been unknown to Zack though). Aerith had finally given up on him after 4 years. Again no way Zack would of lost here, but he wasn't at peak performance and that's what makes it beautiful.

Wrong. 1st Class are not immortal and they are not omnipotent gods. A SOLDIER 1st Class would survive but normally but also would have been tactically retreating. Zack could not retreat at all and had no cover so he was taking damage from all sides. This is because he was protecting Cloud. Also much of the "SOLDIER are gods" stuff comes from the game play mechanics. Bullets and blades are just as effective on them as they are on normal humans when they hit.

This point is further proven by the mission to defeat 1000 shinra soldiers. I never completed it, but if in-game Zack can win, then animation Zack can do even better.

Clouds emotions are what give him a plus ultra against people. It's also his greatest weakness too. It either breaks him down and makes him doubt himself (advent children) or gives him the strength to find power he never knew he had (first time he fought sephiroth when he got stabbed and flung sephi into a metal reactor followed by into a pit)

What I also like is that the Turks were seemingly in the dark about Zack's location, while most of Shinra prepared an ambush knowing exactly where Zack was going to be. Given how the Turks operate and how good they are (Cissnei immediately found Zack soon after the escape from Nibelheim), there is likely more going on. Personally, I feel that it can be implied that the President, Heidegger, etc. all kept important information from the Turks regarding Zack's location near Midgar because they likely knew or had suspicions that Tseng and everyone were not going to turn over Zack if caught.

I had been fighting the Shinra army for ~50 minutes before my mom finally looked up how to advance to the ending. The solution was to allow myself to take more damage, and a few rounds of me nearly dying and healing myself with aerial drain later, I finally managed to witness the most heartbreaking scene in my life. I honestly wish I kept going until the end.

Its a remaster not a remake, nothing changed for Crisis Core. Zack did die. But we already know the Sephiroth in the Remake is the one that experienced already a final death, he manipulates the lifestream to change his fate. Zacks fate is unknown in the remake so far.

I don't know why so many fans are down on our newbie Zack-voice, whose name escapes me at the moment. I think he did a great job. Yes, Rick Gomez is one of a kind, but the new guy did well too. He definitely improved here compared to the Remake. Especially his Price of Freedom line before the final fight. In the original take in FFVIIR it sounded pretty bad. If I were to describe it, in the Remake he sounded like “Ugh, I guess I have to do this” and just very smug, while the original Crisis Core (and now Reunion) actually sounded like Zack was preparing for the inevitable while remaining confident in his beliefs until the end. Caleb Pierce did such a good job with the line in this case.

22:12 very glad Caleb Pierce decided to change the way he delivered this line. To me it was never an issue that the VA’s changed, it was solely about how the line was delivered. In Remake, it almost sounded like Zack was cockily looking forward to dying against the battalion which doesn’t match at all with the tone of the scene. Here, he sounds like someone whose disappointedly aware that he’s about to die but is willing to give his all to protect his friend and see his crush again.

The one of FF7 remake well as you must see there is a lot of thing that wasn't the same as the original, because Sephiroth try to change the destiny (he probably know what will happens so he could be the Sephiroth from Advent Children that manage to came to the past for his purpose) so the Zack on FF7 remake is probably the one that get his destiny change in the timeline remake While the one of this vids is just the normal Zack with his real destiny

I don't think that's fair to the voice actor and more a result of the voice direction. You can certainly tell that in the recording booth he was likely told to mimic as much of his predecessors performance as closely as possible (even if that funky 2000's voice acting is not as great by today's standards) instead of trying to sound natural. I've heard what caleb can sound like when he's given room to work, so i expect his role in remake trilogy to be a major step up.

There is an important buff to the badassery of Zack Fair’s final stand. They added helicopter wreckage to the battlefield after the time skip, indicating that he had destroyed them, rather than them leaving because they ran out of fuel necessary to reach a suitable landing site as implied in the Crisis Core ending. Even in the FFVII remake, only a single helicopter’s wreckage is visible.

IMO Caleb's Zack gradually gets better sounding after he gets the new hair & the buster sword. Almost like there's a maturation process for his entire character. I'm totally new to the series, didn't know anything about these characters a few days ago, and OUCH did Zack's death hit so dang hard. For me, part of what drives it home is how, during the entire game, you don't see the characters ever actually bleed from their injuries, even when Cloud gets skewered by Sephiroth. They don't actually show the injuries. But here at the end, for once, the game cuts to Zack, bleeding profusely from the head, riddled with bullet holes, and lying in a pool of his own blood. It's so jarring and painful to see

I like how the UI even degrades and Zack becomes weaker and weaker until he cannot beat three basic infantry soldiers. Fun fact: I found a combination that makes Zack OP in this game making us e of multiple high level spells that hit multiple targets sword attacks with chance of instant death or stopping enemies and an MP pool ridiculously high that is restored to Max or near Max after every battle. Because of this, after a certain number of enemies are defeated or time elapsed, it would skip to the next part even though I could keep going indefinitely. The 1000 Shinra Mission was easy, just time consuming. Even with the last 3 soldiers, I kept one-uping the game. It felt as close to being the head of Square Enix barging into my place and saying: Stop! He needs to die end the game!

Just beat the game.....an I must say loved it 💯 I really don’t know why they brought Zack back 🤦‍♂️ I enjoyed playing this Masterpiece back in the day on PSP an was in fact my very first FF game, an got me into FF. I was so looking forward to this game an it didn’t disappoint. However....after finishing it, I’m STILL even more puzzled why they would even bring Zack back 😔 this ending was hell always was a very *powerful* moment. Zack is the reason Cloud became the Hero he became to be, that saved the world. So....with Zack back it’s like....undermining everything he stood over an fought for. Don’t get me wrong I like Zack but....this game summed up his story *perfectly* in the beginning a young man, who wanted to be a hero an a man like his mentor and threw his trials and tribulations, everything he’s been therw up to the point of his death. He FINALLY became a Hero. Even if nobody knew or even recognized him for it. I really hope FF7 Rebirth proves me wrong. An they do his character Justice. Because FF7 Remake would of been just fine, if it was a simple remake version of the original FF7. Just like this was for the original Crisis core.

I suspect it is part of Sephiroth trying to change the outcome of the original. Bringing Zack into the fray will cause a lot of questions for Cloud, Tifa and Aerith. All three knew him and cloud now has his persona. It may well cause Cloud's identity crisis to fracture earlier and cause a shift in the outcome towards Sephiroth's favour. I personally think it will result in Zack having to make the ultimate sacrifice to return the timeline back in the process killing himself and erasing many people's memories of him since his original death in the most heroic way possible.

wouldnt be surprised that say Aerith and Zack actually living through all the way to the end to see the fight with Sephiroth that once he is re-defeated, whatever is holding these "separate timelines" in place will likely fall apart resulting in Aerith and Zack saying "well we did it and we're grateful for the chance to see it through to the end, but we need to go back to the lifestream as things SHOULD have been and so this is goodbye." There's alot more chance for narrative impact going that route than there would be in just leaving everyone alive to forge an ultimate happy ending ala FFIX.

Was really hoping for a secret ending of some sort that ties into Final Fantasy VII Remake. This is a remaster, sure; but so was Final Fantasy Type-0 and we still got “a little something extra” hinting at the future of the game’s universe. The difference with Crisis Core Reunion is that future is already established: we will be seeing an alternate timeline where Zack survived that encounter.

The reason why it's not part of the remake timeline is that in a cutscene where you see Zack whispers are hovering somewhere and Zack can see it. Here there are no whispers to signify that this follows the remake.
