I get the sense that the people who made this video are irritated by these questions? I love it when people ask me about rock climbing! I get so excited, I tell them they have to try it, I MAKE them try it, and then I quietly start chanting "One of us, one of us, one of us" until they get scared and tried to run, but AHA I've tied them into a harness! NO ESCAPE NOW.
@NeonCat1009 жыл бұрын
+Nerdfighter21 I love your attitude! If some one is asking a question it's because they are curious. Why would you be mean to some one who is interested in the thing you love? I think one of the problems with any hobby or interest is experienced people looking down on beginners. Everybody starts out not knowing anything so why not be the person who helps them out and gets them involved. I leant most of my rock climbing technique from friends (and on the odd occasion friendly strangers) giving me advice and now it feels great if I can help out some one else. The more people I can get to come climbing with me, the more potential partners I have :-)

evidently none of you understand how belaying works, or that ANYBODY with proper training can do it. I’ve had to belay people almost twice my weight before (for reference I weigh 110 lbs). All you have to do is pull down and pull taut and that person ain’t moving.

Not something non-climbers say, exactly, but I love when I'm training at the gym and a few football players come in thinking that cause they're more muscle than anything else, they'll be a great climber. They then refuse to wear climbing shoes or use chalk, cause thats what pussies who aren't strong enough to climb properly do, and then get halfway up a grade 12 (Australian) while wearing running shoes and start yelling to their friends about how there's a hold missing (I have seen this happen on a route made for eight-year-olds with enormous jugs every thirty centimetres all the way to the top) or the foothold is too small (I have seen THIS happen on a two-inch wide horizontal foothold about twenty centimetres above the last one). And then they get to the top and that's when the fun starts, watching them try to lower off xD It's also great to watch them get a metre off the ground and then realise that their biceps are doing awesome, but their fingers and calves? Not so well.

Well as often happens I wrote a long reply and KZbin made it disappear. Condensed...I did find my community in the skydiving world, but that was a generation ago. With the trash talking me generation, DZ's are likely a different place now. From what I have read, surfers are often real assholes for "turf" reasons. Maybe skydivers would be too if they had a very limited number of planes, and outsiders kept showing up and taking the few slots.

All of the above. Some people just choose one, it's best to do all three. Especially if you start with classes and a gym first, and then meet friends to climb with. Some people have sketchy technique, so learning the ropes a bit through a class or a trusted gym before you hop on the rock with anyone is always a good idea.

Wozzi7 I recommend going to a gym, and learning the basics from staff. Take a class on belaying (both top rope and lead climbing) and get it dialed in. After that if you are friendly and safe, it will be easier to meet other climbers. Then once you get to know some people ask if they ever climb outside Stress that you are solid at belaying but need someone experienced to show you a bit more. (this not only compliments the other person but also emphasizes you are safe- key) Meetup.com is good too
