This is not for lord Shiva, It is about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. They are performing for the Birthday Celebration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Yes, it gives the feeling of preparation for war cause back then it was actually performed before the war to challenge the enemy and also after the war to welcome the soldiers after victory. Dhol Tasha is basically a combination of percussion instruments and were primarily used at the beginning of war, to motivate soldiers and the dance performed on it is done with spears (Barchi chi nrutya). This however, was canonised in civilian life in mid-sixties in the cultural capital of Maharashtra, Pune.
