This video is actually approximately 15-20 years old, it was just uploaded to KZbin 6 years ago, hence the video quality. Shmeichel literally means "smile". The song was meant to be an fun ode to the organisation Shmeichel which have a cheer up squad of volunteers visiting nursing homes and hospitals, Gertner is a volunteer there.

Now that you got into the idea that you cover all your bases by showing all the different kinds of head Coverings, You absolutely need to react to Ari goldwag AM ECHAD...... I don't want to ruin it further since the whole idea is to see your reactions but that will be an incredible way to see this idea. For all those who know that song and agree please smash the thumbs up button

Thing about us is, kissing the mezuzah is so programmed in our minds, that we find ourselves just kissing the door frame even when the happens to not be one there, muscle memory basically...

You nailed it again! This song brings me straight back to my childhood lol! By the way, this song came out in 2007, so I'm assuming the video is about the same age... Gotta agree with you about the dance moves lol but if this was really 2007, it was right in the beginning of the age of Jewish music videos, so there wasn't really much to compare to;)

Also, regarding the mezuzah, we kiss our fingers that touched it. Generally, when encountering something sacred, we kiss it. Practically, because kissing a mezuzah on a door post is rather awkward, we touch it and kiss the part of our hand with which we touched the mezuzah

Yes, this is filmed in England - that is where he is from. Shmeichel means Smile. The song IS about being happy. Video taping in the sanctuary might be frowned on by some but its fine. The Mezuza on the doorway reminds us the G-d always watching over us. We kiss it upon entering or leaving. The song is mainly in Yiddish. The Shtreimel is worn by married Hassidic men on Shabbos or special occasions. During the week they wear a black fedora type hat - not the same Fedora as say Benny Friedman. Usually with the kipa (yarmulke) underneath. A few neighborhoods in London have large Jewish populations of all stripes of Judaism including a large Hassidic community. There are also Jewish communities in Manchester and elsewhere.

It's a really interesting question you ask about filming in sacred spaces. Religious Jews (perhaps specifically of European descent) have a very relaxed attitude to the decorum in prayer buildings, in spite of what religious laws dictate. In practice they function as communal spaces of sorts outside of prayer times. But this has been the case for centuries. I think a new issue that has arisen with photography and video is the inappropriate use of sacred objects as props.

It's a song about smiling and that it makes a difference when u give a smile. Hes a singer from england. Also hes kissing the mezzuza at the doorway. Theres a large jewish community in england. Regarding recording in a house of prayer is ok depends for what.

So, men always wear the kippah. The question is what they wear on top of it, and when. The shtreimel is only certain sects, and within those sects, it's only married men, and even that is only on sabbath and holidays and other special occasions. Others will wear the fedoras on top of the kippah all the time, or just for prayers. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Would this be the correct place to suggest another video to watch and comment on? I'd LOVE for you to watch Yanky Lemmer's "Broken Hearts", the English version of Israeli singer Hanan ben Ari's "Shvurei Lev". The video is fully in English, so you wouldnt struggle with the lyrics at all, and the reason I'm suggesting it is bc I'd love to hear what you think of yanky Lemmer's voice and performance. The video may make you cry! It's beautiful! Here is the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWnIpaihd8mNa6c . Looking forward.

Once again you amaze me with your perception. You picked up on the mezuza. A mezuza is placed on all the doorways in a jewish home or work place. Most people kiss it with their hand and bring it to their mouth, but when you do it swiftly it looks like he touched his chin. You picked up on the word shmaichal which as you said means smile in yiddish. Mr.Gertner is from England. You also mentioned about making videos in a synagogue a lot has to do with circumstances, but it may be a question for a rabbi. As I mentioned a mezuza is not only placed on a house of worship but on all jewish homes.

It is important that you understand one thing. You react to music that the majority of the public that listens to, has a kosher phone, no internet, really small, like in the past. That's why there isn't a large amount of views and likes, the people who listen to this music, hear it on a disc or onky disc, or in any form, just without internet. And one last thing, I am 24 years old and I remember this song since I was really little, so you will know that it has been around for many years, therefore the chirography is very old and not interesting. 🤍💙❤
