Just wanted to add that the names of these games are references to the overall version. Another Chronicle - "AC" - Arcade Chronicle Saviours - "CS" - Consumer Second Prologue - "SP" - (don't have a good one for this, some people see it as the GBA SP, others see it as "Second Portable", others see it as "SPecial") Everythign else is just icing on the cake. AC EX+ (Arcade Extra Plus) which only contains Arcade Stuff, CS Core (Consumer Version Core/Consoles) which contains everything meant for the console/PC releases. Nice to see gojiguy here.

Great vid! Darius Twin on SNES was the first shmup I ever beat as a kid at all, and Burst was the first 1cc I ever sat down to accomplish. Loved the vid, and I love Burst, but I do think G Darius has my heart in the series for the absolute madness of the capture ball.

Absolutely agree. Twin was my first game (minus Mario pack in for eight months) for SNES that I scored for fifteen bucks new. I wanted to rent it multiple times before and it seemed like destiny to kid me. Ultimately, G is my favorite cause the capture mechanic is incredibly unique. Have shown everyone I can on PS4/Switch. Core nostalgia all over the series...

@@Marzimus Oh nice! I think we rented Twin a few times from Blockbuster before i bought a copy. It was kinda like Mega Man X, I remember renting it repeatedly for weekend plays to finish it and finally my parents going "We're just gonna help you buy a copy so we can save on rentals."

@@salemite Smart parents! Mega Man X is the one game I wish I could forget everything about to play through fresh again. My older brother gifted me a copy for Christmas and it's the second best gift I've received three decades later. First was a DVD of Dead Alive because a friend listened during random conversation and spent a month finding a copy. Happy gaming!

Just played EX AC at Game Galaxy outside of Nashville TN ... the arcade machine is gigantic and the screen size makes the experience fantastically immersive. Bucket list cabinet for my humble home arcade. Absolutely loved that I could play with the Gaiden ship as well.

G-Darius is still probably my favorite of the series, but man Darius Burst is something else. Great video!

@@Johnnygrafx it’s always a tough call between G Darius and Gaiden. I prefer the pixel art and craziness of Gaiden vs the early polygons, but the gameplay and insane bosses in G just take it. Both are masterpieces. And Burst is quite underrated so I was glad that Goji did such a great recap of the series.

I picked up the arcade version physically but later on the console version went on sale digitally so I picked that up too. The latter was not really required as I could already play most of the games via flash carts but still pretty cool. If you had a choice of one I’d pick arcade.

If you want Dariusburst with the Silver hawk choosing with the music (I.E silver hawk Origin plays Darius, 2ND plays Darius II BGMs, Gaiden plays gaiden BGMs and Genesis plays G Darius musics) then this would be my pick. Playing silver hawks with their corresponding musics is fun and match and also Gaiden is the most powerful one since it retains the same WAVE power with silver hawk drones once your wave is fully upgraded also homing napalm missiles as well.

My friend, you are the authority on this. Granted, ive been a shoot em' up fan for over 30 years. But im happy you did a video on this, as I've had Darius Burst: Another Chronicles EX plus on my Nintendo Switch wish list for God knows how long lol. Btw, i was always a huge fan of Thunder Force 5 on the PS1. Or Darius Gaiden for that matter, that was until i bought a modified Sega Saturn from E Bay last year. I think the best way to play any shooter besides Raiden Fighters: Aces, is on the Sega Saturn. But at least now i know which version of Darius Burst to get now 👍

I’m a shmup enthusiast and far from being an expert. But for me, the aspect ratio of those games are also a deciding factor. Especially on Switch, where you can’t adapt the ultra wide aspect of the AC version on multiple monitors. When playing on a single monitor, things (enemies, bullets) are just too small on screen. I know there’s a "zoom" function but it’s not ideal either as it hides a portion of the screen where enemies are active anyway. I’m curious to discover the CS version - if Strictly Limited Games ever decides to finally ship it - as I suspect I’ll appreciate the game a lot more than AC.

I got the CS version of the funny fish game and its DLC in a Steam sale years ago. Beat the story mode (not 100% unfortunately since I suck with the Formula) and all the DLC stuff. Still stands as one of my top favorite shmups and honestly hope they make another Darius game sometime in my lifetime. Also now wondering if Helldivers 2 got inspiration from Chronicle Mode with the whole work together for planet liberation thing.

Excellent series, and excellent sub-series! I'm more of an R-Type guy, but Darius is up there. I've got all of them. :D I play Chronicle Saviors (with DLCs) the most I think, as well as Super Darius on the PC Engine CD. I have my eye on a Taito F3 board with Darius Gaiden, as I've been collecting arcade boards (some good, some that I'll be restoring). Just picked up two Air Buster boards too. :) I really need to hop back into Chronicle Saviors again soon. It's been probably 6 months since I've played it. (house renovations, etc.)

Do any versions besides the PC one support dual or ultrawide screens? You can buy 32:9 screens these days so you could get the full arcade experience without black bars but I don't know if the consoles can handle that.

admittedly darius burst was one of the few games in the series I never got around to, perhaps I need to rectify that! will likely go the Switch version since I have so many other shmups on the system already... but man the PC version has cameos from deathsmiles and hyperdyne sidearms? kinda jealous those never made it to other systems.

My brother got Darius Burst for his PSP. I went and got EX Another Chronicle on my PS5. Which version is the absolute best? It’s hard to decide really. I hope that Taito releases the Darius Burst Sega/Taito pack on the PS5 and Steam one day.

The other thing to be aware of with the new release is the ports on Cozmic Collection/Revelation are done by M2 and are basically perfect releases for the content they do offer with superior input latency. Hopefully they do release CS Core for other platforms eventually.

This was really well done. It also reminds me how sad it is that despite having Chronicle Saviors for the Vita, PS4, and the Switch - none of them have all of the DLC on cart, and thus when their listings come down they will no longer be playable. Unless some amazing person figures it out and then count me in for a physical.

So, maybe this is the summary I got for the best of Darius games : - PS/Switch : Dariusburst AC EX+ / Darius Cozmic Revelation - PC (Steam) : Dariusburst CS I have played Dariusburst CS on PC for about 230 hours in total. Great "shoot'em up" games with a lot of levels and 24 fighters in total, although finishing levels with the preset system is hard to do.

I did, but if I'm being honest, I don't recommend multi monitor mode. It's better played as a seamless display. Unless you have a way to do multi monitor with a mirror it's a bit frustrating to play.

I got AC EX+ on switch but I can't get the self ghost score to work. I have the ghost settings set to self (because I don't care about my score compared to top players) and I don't play the infinite ship modes. Anyone know if this feature is bugged or if I may be doing something wrong somehow?

Sorry, not a comment about the video. Everything you produce or show is brilliant. Evercade have been bringing decent shooters to their console. I'm not sure how good they are but seeing Toaplan collections and now the news of Neo Geo coming in 2025 I'm wondering now if Evercade could be a great option to play these games. My only concern is lag but I've never see a good in-depth review. I've mentioned to Mark MSX and hope he may look but I'm just pushing the message that there could be this cartridge based option that might actually have good ports. If anyone actually has more information on these collections, Evercade and if they are good it should be good to know. Basic reviews are not enough at this stage. 😊

Dariusburst AC EX+ is TOTALLY unfair. Buy Dariusburst CS along with the DLC, you'll have a lot more fun, and you won't be slamming your controller on the floor when you die every 10 seconds.

Let's be real here, Dariusburst is a rather average game. Its nice that they were able to iterate and expand it but all those revisions are still built over the same average base game. This isn't helped with how the later revisions go for quantity over quality.

Hope life is going well for you brother. i know you have been working on a Toaplan documentary. hopefully thats going well too. wondering if you got to check out Cygni from Konami. I thought it was cool hell, a little to chaotic in some spots and the green homing missiles that come from the background should be able to be shot down with the gun that shoots things specifically in the background, cause why give the player that ability if you take away the utility of them using said weapon mechanic they put in the game lol. well anyways brother hope the Shooter smoke is burning bright in your shmup pipe and success is over flowing in your life.
