This is the best sounding vox I have ever heard!! I absolutely love how it breaks up when you push the volume!

This is one of the best sounding amps I've ever heard, at least on youtube, so far the tone quality is assesable on this streaming technology ;-) But you also can feel the tone, so, really, really great!

Thanks for this...........quite a few changes with the components etc.......and as was said 'this is the better model of the reissues'. My amp guy talks a lot about Vox AC30s when I ask him, he says they're problematic to deal with especially the older ones. Good to see a pair of the old pulsonic Celestions there also.

I agree with the electronic improvements, however, as far as sound goes, my 1964 AC30 still has most of the original components (apart from a set of Russian EL84s and Mesa GZ34) and to me it sounds just as good as your amp!

Your 64 sounds better. I have a 1996 and a 1964 and the 64 sounds a lot better.

Hey Roman! I have one of these TBX's and I know they are stellar to begin with. I'm wondering how much of a tone / reliability / noise reduction improvement you noticed with this mod job? Especially noise reduction. Thanks!

did yours have the “hum til you turn up the normal channel about halfway” problem? It’s widespread. Wonder whether you found a solution with these mods. Thanks.

what's the value of the new double F&T caps?
@kenichi407 Жыл бұрын
dual 50uf on the main filter cap... not a good idea as the gz34 valve rectifier will be doing overtime. plus, it doesn't even physically fit in the chassis. tech should have just used 16s or 32s. true, they have marginal added hum, but the advantages of staying with original specs is far beneficial. surprised roman didn't complain of added stiffness and less sag feel when playing.

I was going to buy one of these off craigslist .. now I am not. Shame but I wasn't looking to have to re-wire to make it sound like $600 of amp. Massive respect for the mods but put me right the hell off buying a stock one! :)

Hi, great sounding amp. I have one my own and I'd like modding just a little... Notice you have changed the original polyprop caps 630v with sozo blue 400v. I'm not an electronic expert but I've always red that caps must be equal or highter volts. So is it possible or I have to do any other mod in the amp to install sozos? Thanks
@kenichi407 Жыл бұрын
b+ will (should) never reach 400v in a vox-ac30 build, so should be fine...but higher values give insurance in case any rare occasion of voltage spikes.

I understood exactly nothing of this. But it seems the mods are not to many and not too expensive. So why wouldn't VOX make it like this from the factory? Oh, wait - I know. They sell their amps anyway, so why make them better or more expensive... Too bad.

The Mercury Magnetics was a waste of money. Also the AC30 sucks for distortion tones. But it is bad ass and one of the best for its cleans. Me myself, A modified Marshall JCM 800 2204 for the dirt, and a Vox AC30 for cleans all done by means of a simple AB Box. Only thing an AC30 is good for is the cleans because when used for distortion it sounds like poop stink a ding dang fart.

A healthy AC30/6 TB even in stock form crunches like a mean Plexi. Don’t know about the Chinese versions. On the TB/ TBX crank the brilliant volume to 8 crank the bass and treble to 8-9 and trim the cut to taste. Rock TF out!
