Empress stands out for me. Something about the over all tonal quality I like better.

For me too. I was a big fan of the strymon bigsky, I had it, but the empress surprised me

The empress is more clear that's for sure. Apparently the analog part of the dry signal doesn't pass thru the dip and is in parallel.

I have owned the Big Sky, Blue Sky, Flint, Timeline, Dig, and El Capistan. The Big Sky and Timeline share the same problem, a weak tone when engaged. Something disappears from your tone and nothing good except for time is added. The now own the Empress and it has a warmer sound that is NOT attributed to cut high frequencies. Some have said that this is because Empress put the money into the VCA's. I don't know, but it is noticeable. Hopefully Strymon will listen to its customer base and fix this. It is a minor gripe but it is a big deal for ambient work that has your tone drifting for extensive periods of time. The Big Sky will drift for periods of time that will blow your mind, and that alone is cool. I thought is was the end all until I compared it to my H8000FW. There it sounded very muted and the skies were filled with clouds which obscured my light. I sold my Timeline, Blue Sky (which was purer to me than the Big Sky), and the Big Sky. I kept the Flint and the El Capistan just have a mojo (that is beyond the VCA's) which allow for extensive creative sound design. The Dig is fun, but not amazing. I used all of these pedals with both guitars, synths and eurorack. I am a reverb freak and have yet to be totally satisfied with any unit including the H8000FW which I sold. Hopefully the H9000 will seal the deal and I can continue my voyage across the universe.

What's wrong with the DIG, and what is the best reverb unit?
@josephfelice6013 жыл бұрын
@@joemarabella2145 I wish I knew man, but I think the old school Lexicon 224XL and 480L are fantastic. The TC Electronic M6000 is stellar too. I haven't tried the H9000, and doubt I will. FWIW i sold the Empress and bought the Ventris. Same story, Ventris is disappointing to me. You might try the Neunaber Immerse, it's affordable and sounds pretty good. My only grip with the Dig was the wimpy tone, but maybe that could be fixed with some eq or tube sat.... I would not totally dismiss the Dig though.

The H8000FW have very clear reverb but they are a more surreal type of reverb as compared to a lexicon or briscati. But it still have some incredible reverbs. Getting rid of your 8000 was a big mistake bud.

@@LCRLive687 actually don't really miss it, so many new reverbs now. Strymon star lab, source audio collider, UA golden, the reverb's in the quantum, summit, Elektron's, various new software, ETC. Got rid of the Empress too! LOL.

All I know is the Empress has a sadness and makes me want to cry. The Big Sky is more pristine… but never makes me ache 🤷🏻♂️

Big Sky is the modern day Quadraverb. Empress for me.

Empress hands down

The Empress is cool, but the Big Sky just has a warmth and character than no other reverb has right now. The Neunaber Wet is my favorite overall verb, but the Big Sky is just the king when it comes to incredible washes of sound. It's going to be one of those pedals that is considered a classic even 20 years from now because it has such a distinct character and sound.

I'd prolly have to disagree. It's just not Wi-Fi enough for me. Try a GFI tempus specular.

WTF would you compare (A/B) them, whilst they're in different modes ... ?!! :P

hey Shnobel, get the latest firmware update on the empress, go to tremverb mode and try to recreate that with the big sky...good luck!

Hey Shonbel. Love your demos bro. Quick question: I'm thinking about replacing my H9 with the Empress or Bigsky. Your thoughts? Plus I'm curious if the lower sample rate of the Empress is able to be heard or felt? Curious how it affects the tone if at all. I'll need it for a range of classic verbs and great ambient stuff ala Sigur Ros or other hipster gear ;p I'd love input from anyone as well. thanks :)
@mykytapanarin43226 жыл бұрын
No, sample rate can not be heard, it's more marketing thing. For instance new Boss RV-500 has 32 bits, but sounds way crappier than both BigSky & Empress. Both of these are very good, but in my opinion for Sigur Ros kind of stuff BigSky would be better. It has that spcific 'magical' ambient imprint which you would not find anywhere lese.
