"Sometimes I have toyed with ideas that I got from good old Dr. Freud. Nothing new, of course - it may seem to you I try to break through open doors"! Such clever and fun lyrics to a up-beat synth pearl of a song! I love how Frida´s voice is so sharp here - in contrast to Andante, Andante where her voice is so tender and soft! I love her voice - even today! ❤

English not being my first language, it was impossible to decipher the lyrics, had the cassette and then bought the album with the lyrics sheet, all Abba vinyl albums released in South Africa had the lyrics sheets, the record companies did it with for instance all Lionel Richie, Queen, Roxette, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac because they knew people will buy the albums, but about 50/50 of all records were generic or lyrics on the record sleeve.

The most 80's characteristic song of the album with heavy fanfare-type synth/keyboard riffs, tom-drums even vocoders. Also remarkable double key change back to original at the end. They didn't follow the trends, they made them.. already 1980!

Hi matt. You know I've been an ABBA fan since 1974, I remember the excitement when they released a new song or Album and listening to them for the first time, you can imagine when they didn't make anymore after 1982 I waited and waited and it never happened, you see they never disbanded so I thought it was just a break, your reactions are brilliant and I feel like I'm living it all again listening to your first time reactions. Well you can imagine how I felt when they released Voyage after 40 years, I never thought that would have ever happened, I was a teenager all over again and got to see the concert in London last year, wow, it transports you back in time to their heyday, which I experienced as well in 1979, if you've not been to see the Voyage concert I can't recommend it enough. Thanks again for this journey with ABBA

Hi again, Matt. Great react and GREAT analysis by the way... Great song...without listening to the chorus, I think no one would know it's from ABBA... Reveals the true artist. The one who is in a permanent search and evolution. Take care, see ya Matt (& Lucca) ❤️🇨🇱👍

I also like the end of the track, the way the sound descends into the gloom😔 of the split mind then flits back up to happy, light 'Butterfly'😄 thoughts.

I might be repeating myself, but I just love how you "feel" all these songs. Be it ABBA, Simple Minds, Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, Echo, a-ha... You name it. Your channel is a real inspiration even (or maybe especially) for someone like me, who has already heard these songs decades ago and still and loves them. Thanks for your great work, man! Keep it up!

LOVE this one. I always loved and identified with the lyrics - "part of me is acting while the other stands aside" "gloomy moods and inspiration, we're a funny combination" - just great. And the conclusion - we're all freaks. Love it. One of my favourite bits is when they harmonise on the word Hyde - it's amazing. It's really a disco-prog track - the synths are totally prog rock, like Eagle,, they are not using synths like OMD or The Human League. There is that funky guitar in the verses that give it that slight disco vibe. Disco was evolving at this point anyway and synths were becoming a major part of it thanks to Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder - listen to her The Wanderer album, it predicts so much of the next decade, fusing new wave and disco. There is a fantastic track coming up which really does do synth disco, but takes it to church.

Sublime yet again..But we have been so used to the genius that is ABBA and their commentary on the darker side of life. Dealing with bi-ploar, any mental illness was unheard of at the time of this recording. To make it into a pop gem dealing with these delbitating illnesses and make a superb commentary.. Genius.! Sex, betrayal and political commentary is very well known in the ABBA community. Even a simple song ( which Sonically, stands out) On and On and On takes the listener to heights that we weren't aware of. The Visitors is a prime example of this. Even the mundane following of life in The Day Before You Came..... Masterpieces in my opinion. Have a brilliant day Mat and Lucca, Craig from Australia 🇦🇺😊

The very best of ABBA is subjective. I think as time went by, the upcoming album, their last album in the 80's, "The Visitors", has been re-evaluated. It's grown-up ABBA, a band that doesn't care anymore about the mainstream but does its own thing. It certainly has some more depth and is more experimental. It has stood the test of time.

@marvinquezada7203 At the time of release i thought it was a weak follower since i was too young to feel its 'weird mature' feeling and difference,(was in my very early my teens then).I thought it lacked the huge single bangers of their previous albums but i reconsidered many years later on.I have also noticed that fans who like it they also like '"The Album".They are both sophisticated works and kinda share a similar sense. I was surprised about the positive praise of TV album but also very proud about it.I recall It was a very very succesful album in W.Germany and Portugal btw. I often play this on cold dark winter afternoons. It's soothing.

"Swagger" in the vocals, absolutely...I read somewhere, I wish I could find the quote, that Frida took inspiration for this performance from Eartha Kitt. Edit-- someone already mentioned this lol, I think it's funny how we ABBA obsessives all devour the same bits of information and use it to fuel this ...society? lol I have a lot to say about The Visitors album, by the way, but I am restraining myself until we get closer.

hey Matt, si nice to see you in my morning in our ABBA Journey "Me and I" (1980) song included in the album Super Trouper performed live in the TV special Dick Cavett meets ABBA (1981) a curiosity: Is the second song consecutive in the sequence of the album with Frida in lead voice (never before happened with her or Agnetha) honestly, this is in my opinion the weakest song on the Super Trouper album, 5/6pts for me one of the very few ABBA songs where I don't like the vocal part as it turns out, with an inconvenient ending but I like the synth and part of the chorus That's why for me is ok, it's acceptable but nothing more, could be better and ABBA have better songs in these album I see in next ABBA song my best regards to You from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America

@marvinquezada7203 I like "The way all friends do" a lot, it's in my Top5 and it is a song that proved to be Very Important for the history of ABBA (and I'm not going to spoil, because there are five songs left, and I ask you not to spoil it too, so Matt will discover it step by step) I'm also going to say another unpopular opinion hahaha, I like it better than "Lay all your love on me" And they are going to come to the jugular hahaha But that is the richness of the diversity of tastes and the respect for it.

Hi, I appreciate your videos more now that you mentioned you have knowledge of classical music. It's not the type of music I listen to and I don't know anything about classical music, but I sang in the church choir, the lady was also my grade 6 teacher. She and her daughters introduce me to the term Andante, I live in this weird little town about 40 min drive from Cape Town in South Africa, I say weird because for a small town you have everything here even a College, and people love their music, I was in the Pharmacy a few months ago and they played Super Trouper and the younger people sang along.

Frida says she tried to sound a bit like Eartha Kitt in the verses. One mix has laughter in it but was not chosen. Next one on side two could be theoretically a hit every 100 years at the end of '89. The Visitors, I consider a problematic album, and it'll be interesting when you get to it. I don't consider it their best as a cohesive whole, but that's another story for a different album.
