What's up, folks! I'm back with another Kate Bush reaction for a bonus tune included in the expanded folder for her 1989 album The Sensual World. This one has nice layering and quality vocals from Kate, so join me for another cool (if short-ish) song from the one and only Kate Bush. Cheers!
Also I set up a Patreon a little while back, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation (and getting a little bonus/behind-the-scenes content) can go here. / shnootz
And those who'd like to support the channel with a one-time donation can do so via PayPal, at billshattner@yahoo.com. Thanks!

This song has always very dear to me. I see it as the continuation of 'Hounds Of Love'(the song) and 'Experiment IV'.These three are a tryptic to my eyes. PS the soundtrack album off the film 'Castaway' includes a slightly different mix.😅

Kate, like me, is a big Nicolas Roeg fan. He directed 'Castaway" and one of our fave films "Don't Look Now" which co-starred Donald Sutherland. Happy Birthday Nicolas Roeg (8-15-28).

Written for the 1987 film 'Castaway' - the title of the track is spoken by Oliver Reed's character at the end of the film

As others have pointed out the song was originally written for a somewhat odd movie, that in turn was based on the odd true story that Lucy Irvine writes about in her book. Although the book is her account the movie is (unsurprisingly) dominated by Oliver Reed, and the title of the song is one of his lines. The Lyrics capture very well the whole premise of the events - she is to be a planned 'girl Friday' to his Robinson Crusoe on a deserted island. They know nothing about each other and soon find themselves alone and naked in a hostile terrain.. and things deteriorate from there. In the song she sings: "It is this that brings us together" - not feelings or friendship, not emotion or even lust - just this experience on this island is the only thing they have in common. His character sees it as a romantic story of people lost in some paradise... her character sees no home, no food, no water, no shelter etc. and slowly but surely everything ends and they must return home.

Written for the Nicholas Roeg Film Castaway. Kate was known as a big fan of his psychological Horror film Don't Look Now (starring Donald Sutherland) 1973 and it is said that the film Walkabout (1971) influenced the Dreaming. The Rumour/newspaper report at the time was that the director had wanted Kate for the Amanda Donohue part in the film. As this would have involved a lot of nudity, it was never going to happen - but she did provide the theme.

To be honest, the story about Kate being considered for the film, sounds like the usual tabloid rubbish to me. Kate had only appeared once in an acting role, namely in the "Les Dogs" episode of "The Comic Strip". Of course she did write the song "Ken" for the episode "GLC: The Carnage Continues".

I agree but when asked in 89 about acting she did say there had been several offers over the years but nothing had been quite right for one reason or another. Apparently for example she was very interested in Eric Idles Pirates of Penzance project (1979) which in the end was never made.

To me this song is saying "we can't share every thing, we don't know everything and CAN'T possibly know everything about one another, so please forgive me if I say or do anything that may trigger any past traumas." I love the lines: "Am I yours? Are you mine? We'll find all we are meant to find.." People tend to expect everything from one another as quickly as possible when getting into relationships, and the expectation soon becomes a demand. 'Sharing All' is always unrealistic and unwise.

She might have popped in a couple nights ago. Conspicuously, a single dislike to both the Journey and Duran videos, but no others. Hoping it was just a weird coincidence, but it caught my eye.
