More sonic goodness from the lads. This one is a song about denial. It was written about a married couple that they knew whose marriage was essentially just bringing a lot of misery to both of them but for some reason they just refused to acknowledge it. They were prepared to almost let their lives fall apart rather than acknowledge what was going on between them.

Probably my favourite Keane song. It's like a more sinister-sounding 'Somewhere Only We Know'. And the lyrics are real.

Love this band. Saw them live this year! Tom is an amazing vocalist! My favorite song on this album is A Bad Dream.

One of my favourites, though I didn't remember it by the title.💖 Amazing sonics, love everything about it. Great song! I never understood the lyrics, though, it's the first time I pay any attention to them, and as I didn't catch much (as usual) I looked them up. You seemed to get the main idea very quickly, as you often do, though apparently she didn't lie to him but is lying to herself, which connects to the final lines about a lonely soul having such a good time (the denial Philip mentions). Here is the bulk of the lyrics: And why do you say It's just another day Nothing in my way? I don't want to go I don't want to stay So, there's nothing left to say And why do you lie When you want to die When you hurt inside? Don't know what you lie for anyway Now there's nothing left to say Well, for a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time For a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time For a lonely soul, it seems to me That you're having such a nice time You're having such a nice time

Love this song! Right up there with Somewhere Only We Know. Great sonics as you mentioned, and Tom Chaplin's vocals are top notch. For the most part the lyrics are simple but delivered emotively and powerfully (kinda like Dido does). Love the creative choice with "Well, for a lonely soul you're having such a nice time" rather than being a bridge after chorus two, they refrain it for the whole outro. Really driving home the message that yeah it "seems" you're having such a nice time. How the casual "Nothing in my way" types are really just a cover for a truly dissatisfied mediocre life.

Somewhere only we know gets all the attention but I've always thought this song was just as catchy

Under The Iron Sea is the best! Fun fact: they didn't actually use guitars. Tim (the band's pianist) experimented with his piano, a Yamaha CP70 which has ports for guitar amps. Combining some distortion guitar pedals and more to give that signature distorted piano sound that characterizes this album. My favourite song is "Crystal Ball", I hope you can listen to it!
