Album is just full of bangers. I consider this one of the best albums ever created, period..not just 90s.

Love this SP dive. Another CD to blow the dust off of is Hum, "You'd Prefer An Astronaut." They fit into that spot between Smashing Pumpkins and Deftones.

My three favourite songs on "Siamese Dream" are "Silverfuck," "Mayonnaise," and "Soma," probably in that order. I do feel "Mayonnaise" may have the best overall composition. You even sort of picked up on the idea that if any song should be bookended it's this. I think the build from sorrow and regret to triumph and self assuredness is clear as you listen. And along those lines "Mayonnaise" is probably the best overall use of the guitar as an instrument on an album of fantastic guitar work. I had a conversation around the time I first got "Siamese Dream" which was pretty close to the album coming out. My co-worker said he'd tried to replicate that feedback to prove to himself that it wasn't a studio trick. He was able to do it, but I can't remember how. I just point it out because it was and still is a striking use of sound that captures the imagination. I included "Mayonnaise" on a 60-minute compilation tape I made for my co-workers at Pizza Hut in 1998 called "Not Your Average Radio Mix." The purpose was to introduce them to some album tracks and deep cuts that I thought they would like (they did) that they would never hear on commercial radio. I had a couple of songs that were radio hits like "Sabotage" by Beastie Boys and something by Nine Inch Nails, I think. This was to ease them in to the unfamiliar tracks, which included "Mayonnaise" by Smashing Pumpkins, "Sinner or Saint" by Duran Duran, and "The Trickster" by Radiohead. I can't remember everything I put on there, but the tape was heavily used when I finally took it home. "Mayonnaise" was a standout track for most of them who hadn't yet dug deeper into Smashing Pumpkins. It's just that good of a song.

One of my favorite albums of all time. If you aren’t all Pumpkins out by the time you finish Mellon Collie, I recommend checking out their debut album Gish. That album is genuinely so great and in my opinion their best work. It has a bunch of guitar shredding songs and has a lot of slower somber songs. The Pumpkins really are just a great band.

What I love about Gish is they pulled no punches. They wrote and produced it like they were already the biggest band in the world. One of the best debut albums of the 90s. The other major label debut album I'd check out is "Surfer Rosa" by the Pixies.

Heck yeah. Your reactions to all of these Siamese Dreams tracks, I get it. I bought the Jawbreaker album "Dear You" when I was super young....maybe too young to have the mature musical appreciation to fully appreciate it It sat in my collection....a sort of "one hit wonder" album in my head until well over 20 years later when my girlfriend started introducing me to "new" Jawbreaker songs. Every song she showed me was awesome. Turns out, she'd borrowed a lot of my old albums and was playing me songs from my copy of "Dear You."

First time hearing this , love it. The vibe and the guitars. The guitars remind me of Third Eye Blind's debut album. Not sure which came first?

Oh, I see. I know that name but don't think I've ever heard anything by Third Eye Blind.

@@mattsnider2667 I only know their first two albums, I have later ones but they aren't, for me, as strong as the debut album. They're from San Francisco and they may have songs you recognise, especially "Semi Charmed Life". They are not like Smashing Pumpkins but the guitar playing here is similar to 3EB. I know them, but not many UK people do, they weren't big this side of the pond. I can send u their first two albums at a later date or just a couple of 'lucky dip' ones
