Back to work on the Ford Ranger backhalf project! I needed to add the shock and fuel cell mounts to the tube work before I continued building the back half of the Truggy. I experimented with CAD modeling the fuel cell mounts and had them laser cut out by Send Cut Send. The coilover and bypass mounts turned out really nice! Fabricating the fuel cell mounts took a little creativity to make it as low as possible and a minimalist design to save weight. All of the mounts were made with 1/8 inch cold rolled steel and made for great welding projects.

Make sure you put some rubber Under the tank mounts to eliminate vibrations between the top Mount plate and the cell itself. Last thing you want it a hole wearing through

The rangers looking good! I think more fabricators should sit down and learn some basic CAD like you did, it just opens up a whole new world with laser/plasma cutting, CNC, etc. Thats great to gear that it only took a few hours to figure it out. One other thing it also opens up is 3D printing. Plastic is a less useful material than metal, but it still definitely has its place!

I have been trying more designs and playing with the software to learn it more. It is so easy to send a file and get it laser cut now this is a tool/skill to keep developing for sure!

Having the fuel cell further forward will also help how the suspension changes, a couple hundred pounds of fuel at the very back will make the truck act totally different from full to empty.

On the previous setup I had it behind the axle. It would fluctuate ride height a few inches through fuel usage. I really liked the feel of the weight that far back when it was full

This looks great man. You should have fusion 360 for those plates for the tank.

You need to check out the Archdroid plasma cutter. You can trace your cardboard and it will cut it out.

Awesome video man! You're killing this build, love all the tube work etc. Is your wheelbase still what it was or? Without the bed it looks shorter?

Thank you! When I did the 4 link a long time ago the wheelbase got shrunk to 117. It's still at 117, just looks super short with nothing behind the rear axle yet
