Sudden pile run during offshore piling operations causes drastic increase of the load shock load and snapping of the rigging accessories!

Engineer: well, crap… I used to work in heavy construction and have seen piles both, disappear and collapse and fall over. On one disappearance I haven to be speaking to the engineer sitting nearby counting the strikes and asked what they would do now. He just looked at me, smiled and shrugged…

I have had the same thing happen. didn't lose the hammer,it wasn't attached. just got chains on pile before we lost it.welded on another one,kept driving.

It’s because of a pile “running” I much prefer to use a friction crane for pile driving.

menck , the hammer company has multiple cases like this on their record , the pre survey at sea is close to useless

I saw one being driven @ the marina I was staying. The last "hit" the piling drifted down about 5 Ft.

​@@MrBobcatquebecnope. I worked on this boat for a few years. It was easy to sleep. The accomodation is hundreds of feet away, and a lot of that noise doesn't make it in there.

That is correct the hook should follow the pile so that there is always slack before it stops otherwise it will just break the Endless Wire Rope Sling from the dynamic force

It's not possible, to come out on the other side of the earth, it's all Sheol, nothing after that. Good laugh though to a degree. We must assume, there are soft spots and there are cavities.
