I don't watch Dr.Who at all, but I have to ask why would you troll haters to get engagement instead of trying to make a good show? That's going in with bad faith. Gays and blacks are nothing new, but to weaponize them for relevancy is a bad look.

As a general rule, any producer that calls fans 'toxic'. Is just using it as an excuse to cover for their own poor writing or agenda pushing. Fans know when they are being betrayed and will ultimately vote with their wallets. If someone creating a movie or TV show is genuinely proud that they did the best job they could, they wouldn't even care about 'toxic' fans. The fact they feel the need to pre-emptively publish articles attcaking fans, just shows how weak, insecure, and morally bankrupt these creators are.

On the flip side, the creators all too often use these characteristics as a shield from criticism. Very few people care if a character is black/white Gay/straight or anything in between. They care about good writing.

@@plugsocket9432 I never did get into Torchwood, but I've heard many good things. There are dozens of great characters that are gay and lesbian. Just a few examples off the top of my head are Willow from the Buffy TV series, Job from Banshee, Tig from Sons of Anarchy that had a passionate relationship with trans drag queen. Almost no-one cared because they were fantastically written characters and their personality traits were consistent, interesting, and relavent for the story. Not just shoe-horned in for quota sake.

Both episodes were terribly written. You say you haven't seen them so watch them. They are just plain crap. I don't care about a gay black man playing the Doctor. He has potential. No, what is disturbing about these episodes is that they are ill-thought garbage. The first is dumb beyond belief and the second is monumentally irrational with a villain performance which is execrable. Gatwa is the only thing that makes it bearable and only just because it's next to impossible to save. It's an absolute turd.

That's the point. People like him don't watch shows like Who but people like him are the "modern audience" they try to pander to. Meanwhile, another venerable franchise is circling the drain. The good news is, there's always going to be someone making new good stuff, you just have to find it and there's enough good old stuff you couldn't watch/listen/read all of it in three lifetimes so so long and thanks for all the fish, I guess.

The fans love the show for decades. The show makes numerous changes in writing, story telling, acting, directing and producing. The fans express their displeasure. Fans are labeled toxic. Rinse and repeat.

They're expressing displeasure that they cast a black queer man as the star and a black trans woman as a supporting character and a drag queen as a guest villain. Steve in relation to the current Doctor Who it's like trying compare Star Trek from 1966 to 2005 to present day NuTrek. The current Doctor Who is NuTrek. Fans of Doctor Who have been divided and many are not watching it anymore which is being shown by the decline in ratings.

You've highlighted the point that makes Dr Who (and a ever-growing amount of other shows) so frustrating to watch..... as a show-runner, you have the chance to create inspiring. thrilling stories with a cast that fans want to root for, want to support, want to champion... and the foundation of all of this is a good script. Nail that story and it gives talented actors that chance to engage.... but provide them with a weak script, and poor character depth/direction and you undermine them, you devalue them, you make them look bad on the very platform you set up to showcase them.... and that hurts! I wont deny I despise the channels who have monetised fan hate, suddenly becoming "beloved" fans of franchises they clearly didn't care about until they knew there was something to exploit (hello warhammer 40k custodes reactions) but you were right to point out that producers seem almost driven now to try and over-state messages in their media to the point where it feels like they are almost begging for that reactionary outburst of youtube rage... like the show doesnt work unless they can get some "fans" to be outraged, just so they can wear this as some sort of badge of honour. If producers seem obsessed with this reaction-baiting then can we blame those who react? More than one channel who started out as a positive film reviewer/commentator has become a hater simply due to so much they love being mishandled...so many people want to love their new film and TV series again. And who actually wins in this situation? Certainly not genuine fans who, if they felt the episodes were just a bit poor, and a waste of talent, are worried that they will be labled as trolls for not liking everything blindly..... and ABSOLUTELY NOT the talent, who have clearly given 200% to their performance, but cant save their characters from looking foolish... and end up getting attacked by the extreme elements of the troll culture, just for taking a paid job and doing the best they can with a weak script. The producers might crow about "challenging trends" but they will lose reals fans due to boredom (or tiring of the politics) far faster than for "hate".... and as more franchises slowly grind to a halt under all these conflicting influences, even the troll channels will suffer.

Disney's replacement of characters in existing licenses is not inclusive. It simply replaces. Rearranging does not diversify and none of it is fair in the least. DEI in its definition is noble: "...policies and programs that promote the representation and participation of different groups of individuals." It has, in practice, become a political expression of misandrist and reverse bigotry. Stereotypes are replaced with different but just as ridiculous counterstereotypes. History often gets rewritten to fit the narrative and writers are either unskilled or uninvested in the fiction so they rehash old stories or destroy beloved characters. The elitists use their positions of authority to turn art into didactic preaching and wonder why people choose not to listen. Wokism is the heterophobic ramblings of a small group of the total population trying to make themselves "special" in the eyes of the rest of us when they were already special as individuals from the beginning.

But the next thing people hate the most after discrimination is being stepped on by the rich. Investment companies realized this, and keep pushing for more and more extreme measures, more representation to a ridiculous amount, because they know some people will realize the bullshit and others will defend it. I do not believe this is a 4D chess move. Rather, like a child that missbehaved tries to keep their parents talking about something else by feeding into their conversation, they keep inventing new minorities, new identities that supposedly need to be heard. I watched the episode and I thought it was pretty good and out of the norm. Doctor Who is first and formost surpose to be fun and imaginative. I don't like these cultural warrior types who try to take away the open mindedness of the series.

They pulled the same stunt with Rings of Power: sing to the high heavens about diversity, representation etc. before the series premiered. Because those things are incredibly important to a well-written, engaging Tolkien story - right? Yeah ... that's what gets under people's skin. Not the existence of it, but the priority of it. Same with Dr Who. I didn't fall in love with Dr Who because of diversity, representation, the Doc's skin color / gender / sexual preferences - NO ONE DID.

Having seen both episodes, I found _Space Babies_ to be ok but _The Devil's Chord_ was great. The preceding episode, _The Church On Ruby Road,_ wasn't very good, so these 2 episode being better was a huge relief. The drag actor stole the show with their genuine talent, it was a memorable villain
