Secondly, not talking when you are in bathroom. In Ghana bathroom is where you take your bath. This one also is not a taboo actually but something our forefathers put in place to discourage us from doing it. Because they believed that when you are bathing and talking the water can choke you and in a bathroom you are there by yourself and no one seeing you to assist you. And you can die through that. Ancient days there do's and dont's that our forefathers put in place to discourage us from doing things and instruct us that they are taboo because we fear doing things that are forbidden

These make lotta sense! I understand better now, why the rules were put in place. Thanks for the detailed explanation. But then, the lady in question wasn't talking to anyone pooing or showering. She was tryna strike a conversation with the ladies that were using the mirrors in the convenience lubby, outside the toilets and bathrooms, you get?

They also think you can swallow the water which is mixed with the soap accidentally and it is not hygienic

Very very true my dear Chilaka you can’t talk immediately you enter a bathroom wash room and even when cooking in Ghana 🇬🇭 it very unprofessional or unprescribed 🧑‍🍳 😢

The bathroom issue - they don’t want soap to get into the person’s mouth. The toilet- it’s from the earliest days, when the toilets were not in the houses. They made it general , so nobody would interrupt those going to do the poop. It’s faded , though.,

It isI"not greeting when going to specifically toilet " You know in Africa Ghana specifically calls toilet washrooms. It's not actually a taboo, but it's something put in place to discourage people from doing it. Because we believe that on your way, sometimes you might meet some very prominent people or very respectful or some friend you haven't seen for a long time that by greeting them might generate long conversation which might not be good for you down there because they don't know what is going on down there.

It is not a taboo. The belief is, well, it's what my mum told me. Ghanaians sing and talk to dead bodies when they are getting them ready to bid them farewell and ask for safe passage to heaven. So they refrain from singing when bathing or giving someone else a bath.

It’s not really a taboo but our old people thought if they didn’t tell us like that we would not listen to them, if they told us we will drink the soapy water and we will get sick

From experiences as a man, I have had a few guys in Ghana, Belgium and the Netherlands tried to bring me to their corner, which have gotten me a bit on the edge. So in this age of lg......z era, if some guy suddenly says I look some way, I might look a little suspicious at him and walk-on. If a lady, I might wait around to strike a conversation. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Don't blame her.😍😋😋

It is not ‘don’t talk when you are in the wash room’. It is don’t talk when you are bathing. Water and soap ladder may get to your mouth or wrong place when you are talk at this point. It is just a safety measure. Those who do not understand it or our culture is over extending it to mean when you are in the wash room for other reasons than bathing.

Okay, I get it now. It's more of a safety measure than a taboo. Thanks for the enlightenment 🤗

Eii. Me I can sing, eat, talk or even make calls in my toilet or bathroom koraa. It is that neat oo massa😄 If I can be in a toilet and can't talk there, then I can't use such type of toilet in the first place.😩 Eii..so you and your boo no fit do kokonsa inside toilet? How about during tatata inside bathroom, how do you communicate if you can't talk there?🙈 Massa, limi oo 😄🤣 But you're right,in a dirty bathroom or toilet, it's unhygienic to talk there. That's why it's important to keep it super clean all the time.📌📌

Who will you be talking to in the washroom? Maybe in the old style of toilet which wouldn't be hygienic. Someone else's germs may be floating around and entering your mouth. It doesn't hold for modern toilets.
