Hi, I’m a archaeologist and would never use the Lorenz that way. We only ever bring them on to a site that has already found a hoard then we will bring the Lorenz out to see if there’s other targets nearby that the metal detectors can’t pick up. I feel like you’re pissing in the wind old boy? But it’s a jolly good show watching you in fact it’s hilarious old boy. Sounds like it works like the older BFO ( BEAT FREQUENCY OCILLATOR) machines of the 70s. It drops off in sound at the edge of the target. Loudest in the center. You'll be able to determine the probable shape of the target. It will also be louder the shallower it is.

It is an advanced PI machine. The tone you hear is just a VCO on the output. And it has Iron Discrimination. Does not work anything like a BFO machine. Different technology altogether. Way deeper and penetrates soil better than other detector systems. Nice bit of kit.

@@donreed417 The sound the user hears is down to the audio output type. The Deus 2 also has pitch tone like that and the newer Minelab machine. There are only a few ways to present the signal as audio. But it has nothing to do with the principle used by the detector. This is a Pulse Induction machine and the Deus II is an induction balance model. The BFOs were another principle altogether using two oscillators. Pulse Induction is way deeper than either of the other methods. This is why Cleggy’s hoard hunter cost 8k ukp.

Hey Cleggy: An idea 💡similar to 'oldplucker1 here, (sorry if you've already thought of it): Why don't you grid the 30sq/m area with the CTX and just *mark* any targets that you don't wanna dig. Then when you go over aghain with the Lorenz, you'll know the CTX targets, and any new ones will likely be deeper... "Cheerz!!" 🤪😁

Having watched all your Mega-Detector videos tho', I think Pinpointing super-deep targets might be your biggest challenge... I'm sure you'll find a way anyway matey!! Hi Craig, use the small coil on targets found with the big or even a normal detector like a Nox or Deus. If they can’t pick it up its deep! If they can its either shallow or big. But you can tell by how sharp the rise and fall of the signal is Cheers👍

The 35cm Coil is almost as good as the CTX. The big Coil can tell if it's worth digging
