Unfortunately that is not the entrance to the Medina. Behind that door (Bab Bhar) there are three entrances, the middle one takes you to the Medina, the entrance on the far right (the one you took) it takes you to Aswek (Plural of Souk, which translates to market) It is still part of the overall Medina but it is more about shops of clothes and goods.
