My wife’s cousin is a bee keeper in wales and well respected for her knowledge. Her advice to us was to not pay the exorbitant prices for manuka honey as it is no more nutritional beneficial than any other honey. Its benefits are its antibacterial properties, so unless you plan to rub it on infected wounds it’s a complete waste of money.

@VivianWilliams-iv1ls
@VivianWilliams-iv1ls 10 күн бұрын
Heis correct. I have had to give up my allotment and handed my Bees to one of the members to continue. My honey was just taken from the coomb by spinning or draining out. Strained into food buckets. Then 2nd seived/strained into food buckets with taps. Then, I poured into glass jars where the only thing in them was air which came out as I filled them. All cold actions and nothing whatsoever except effort added. The bees were free to fly where and when they wanted so I never knew where they went. Due to waiting for our en heart surgery, ordered to give up ( by daughters as well as DR's) I did not jar the last harvest but kept it in the n big containers. Now of course being kept in the cool it is chy rystalising and I just dig out to give to friends and family. Proper Stuff. Nationally as a business and like so many greedy businesses -took over by the big boys.

A genuine honey should be :- 1 - Cold pressed 2 - Unpasterised 3 - Course filtered 4 - Not heat treated 5 - give info as to it`s exact source The ones I buy costs £30.99 for a 1KG jar or £18.99 for a 500g jar. A substantial difference in price to the fake honeys on the supermarket shelves. As the saying goes: we get what we pay for. Although they do put a Best Before Date on honey it is common knowledge that genuine honey does NOT go out of date. It can of course crystalise over time but if `very gently warmed` it can be brought back to it`s runny state. Honey is one of the oldest foods and it is referred to in the Bible. Babies under 12 months should never be given honey, because it may contain bacteria (in the form of spores) that an infant’s developing digestive system can’t handle. These bacteria are harmless to older children and adults, but in your baby’s stomach they can germinate, multiply and produce a toxin that can lead to a serious illness called infant botulism. (to continue reading the article please GOOGLE the article title)

@_J.F_ 10 күн бұрын
Honey is usually extracted in a centrifugal honey extractor, so I wonder what you mean by cold pressed, which to my knowledge is a term used for e.g. olive oil extraction. And not that I disagree with your view on honey I will say that honey is actually very often 'heat treated' while still in the hive. Bees like to keep the hive at about 37 degrees Celsius for the brood to have optimal conditions, but honey is usually stored above the brood, and as we know heat travels upwards. In other words, honey can easily be exposed to temperatures well above 45 degrees or even 50 on a hot summers day in the sun, while still on the beehive and untouched by human hands. That said, and I am a beekeeper myself, I would never dream of applying heat to honey at any point during the extraction or jarring process, as we know that more or less all commercial operations do.

I am from Slovenia, which is known for its strong beekeeping tradition. You can buy here directly from many beekeepers. This is how we buy it in our family, and this honey has a fantastic aroma and taste. It has another feature of good quality honey to crystallize at room temperature and become so compact that it is hard to start it with a spoon. Different types of honey crystallize more quickly or slowly, but the quality of honey is certainly questionable if crystals do not begin to form even after a long time.

Retired industrial chemist here. 7 years ago I was informed that food standards in NZ state that foods made out of NZ but packed in NZ can be labelled as made in NZ. I assume the same applies in Australia. I used to consume Nerada tea because it was grown in Queensland. Now Nerada sell English breakfast tea, and my research has shown that all EBT is made in China. Twinings teas are all made in China. I am cutting back on tea consumption. I do not trust food labels now, I have seen lots of other misinformation concerning foods coming from the most chemically contaminated soil on earth. I will say all this dishonesty started after the US government fooled the public on who really took down the twin towers. Few people today realize who the guilty culprit is, and it was not 19 camel riders from the Sahara desert wielding box cutters. I do not trust food or medicine labels as being truthful anymore. People talk about how corrupt communist countries are, well our western countries now practice this same corruption that we fought to eliminate over 80 years ago. The only way to trust the origin of purchased honey is to buy straight from the source of the honey, not rely on a large company to tell you the truth.

I heard there are many honeys labeled 'countries of origin' that are paid by China and other countries to state that when in actuality, there is little to no honey produced in those countries. As much as I have tried to get good honey in the States, I find that some of the bottles are absolute crap, as they crystalize almost immediately. Yes, honey will solidify or crystalize after some time being opened under certain circumstances, but I am talking about nearly immediate hardening, crystalizing after opening.

Thanks, great video. I was warned over 10 years ago, that our honey in UK, comes from China which is pure sugar made into a form of honey. Which supplies the world. So buying honey with a label from anywhere in the world. It will originally originated from China. But won't be on the label

I've wondered about honey for a long time, especially when you get the jars which are labelled as runny honey. I had a jar of that rowse in the cupboard, just checked the label and yes while it state's over 80 year's in Oxfordshire, further down the label, a blend of honey from non eu countries. I need a local beekeeper and honey producer

I pay £30 for my manuka from health shop, and also support my local farm in the cotswolds. People say it's a lot of money, but then I point out their daily £7 Costa coffee, two takeouts a week, plus macdonalds 5 days a week.... They soon shut up!!

A local gentleman has bees on his allotment plot and he sells it, so I buy mine off him but its not as cheap as the sm but i prefer to support someone local and it tastes much nicer.

We buy our Manuka honey from the local health food store, 525+ grade. Yes, it's expensive, but works wonders clearing up an illness.

I hope that Manuka honey is genuine as I've literally just bought a jar other day, just under £5 for that tiny jar from Aldi. It does say New Zealand on it, which made me feel a bit safer. I do have some proper honey straight from the farm though, but I've nearly run out, so I wanted a little back up jar.

I agree that locally produced honey bought direct from beekeepers is the smartest way to buy it. However if you look at the labour that bees put into providing one teaspoonful of honey, the high orice seems nothing.

Rowse honey… “the certifying body that we choose to use is The Soil Association. This is why the statement regarding their approved apiaries is present on our label. This statement applies to Organic honey from any country, hence all organic honey must meet the same strict standards.”

Just subscribed to your channel..Brilliant. I have been unwell with cold etc, for a week now. 2/3 times a day in hot water Honey and lemon (freshly squeezed) I bought a small pot of Manuka Honey online. such a different taste from the rubbish i have been buying ROWSE. The Manuka honey also has a lable on the front 30+ (Methylglyoxal.) Googled that , and i will be using Manuka from now on... I was buying very local Honey in the next village. Lovely. I have the Soft set one left.. Thank you so much.

yes, i made the mistake off buying rouse honey with the claims they made on the label. it was only after taking it home and studying the label properly in very small print did i notice the bit about from non eu countries. well if the main label states that it is from oxford and they have been producing it there for 80 years, then surely this is fraud. what IS wrong with our food regulators in this country.

a fiend says that most morrocan honeys are totally organic local bees in the hills where the bees fly around the untouched plants,,no pestcides etc,,but they keep most of it for themselves!and alsouse it as a mecicine,,for thousands of years ,so its quite rare and expensive .if,,,you can buy any?

Find a local bee keeper there are hundreds in the uk and buy direct. You wont believe the difference in taste. All that supposed honey sold by supermarkets is blended crap from foreign countries that mix it with sugar syrup and take all the goodness out of it

I realised this some time ago, most shop purchased honey has been adulterated. Don’t touch it. Buy direct from a bee keeper, it will taste much better.

Any honey with a New Zealand label is guaranteed to be unadulterated. Very strict laws here in N Z and stringent food processing systems. Farm to fork tracing
@kristianham
@kristianham 16 сағат бұрын
I wouldn't trust it 100%, it depends on how you define 'unadulterated' as commercial beekeepers feed their hives with sugar syrup and pollen patties over the winter months.
