I don't know about the Libre 14 day or Libre 2 but the Libre 3 has a warning about vitamin c at the time that you insert it. Another point, at least with the Libre 3, it can be wildly inaccurate during the first 24 hours and certainly during the first 12 hours. I have to explain to my endocrinologist that all the hypoglycemic events on the first night after inserted are incorrect. I used to do multiple finger sticks but now I know that it's just the sensor itself acclimating. However I'm a very well controlled type 2, and mostly use my meter to see how food affects my blood sugar. Has kept me with an HBA1c between 5.3 and 5.5 for the last year and a half. I've been wearing it for a little over 2 years. And Skin Tac is a blessing. I was going to mention it if you didn't. Haven't had a sensor fall off since I started using it.

Re Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid), a huge problem is that it is not only in health supplements but many prescribed medications and processed foods include it for is preservative qualities. I discoverwed it in bread, juice, preprepared meals, diabetes-related medications and so much more. I did have a problem with false higher readings and missing hypo's and when I called Abbot about the problem, the customer service team aren't alerted to the issue (they replaced four sensors as defective). Now I check all ingredients labels and have greatly reduced my intake of added Vitamin C. Reading the label closer also helps with tracking to the point I achieved an HbA1c of 5.8 (40mmol) within 4 months of starting with Freestyle.

I drink 3 glasses of Diet Cran/Cherry daily. 78 grams per glass. Would take a lot to build up to the levels warned about. Light concord grape juice contains 90 mg Vitamin C / 12 g carbs. There is also a diet Grape juice at WM that only has 18 g. of Vitamin C and 2 g carbs. I use juice when I'm watching TV to avoid eating mindless naked carbs.
@17portland

@@starpartyguy5605 You need to look at all foods and drinks you have - many add ascorbic acid as a preservative to extend the shelf life. When you start looking for it you will be surprised at how much you actually take in - even industrial bakeries add it to bread to keep it fresh longer And as a side, if drinking diet drinks, watch out for certain sweetners that, although manufactured from sugar, do not count as carbs but can affect glucose levels.

In addition, I have observed that eating kiwi fruit also shot up the reading falsely since it has high amount of vit C.

How did I not know I could just fill out a form online, instead of spending 15-20 minutes on the phone everytime a sensors fails prematurely?! Gold - thank you! It was a shame they stopped including the alcohol wipe. But I've never noticed a difference one way or the other. In almost 3 years, I've not had a single sensor fall off, or even get knocked off. Adhesive strength is not a concern for me. Failed sensors with event code 365 are my nemesis. I probably have that happen by day 7 or 8, 75-80% of the time.

@@ForceFreeTrainergirl06I haven't had a Libre 3 last more than 9 days without it failing (issuing low glucose alarms). Accuracy starts out great but then drifts wider and wider until receiving low glucose alarms with normal glucose. Abbott seems to send me a replacement sensor about every other week. It's super annoying. I've had lengthy conversations with them and I seem to be doing everything right ... I don't know the underlying cause.

According to the professional information I've received, the glucose readings displayed by the meter are about 30 minutes behind actual blood sugar levels as recorded with a finger prick. (not just a few minutes as mentioned in the video). It's great for being aware of trends in the blood sugar level, but we have to remind ourselves that a finger prick may be needed to confirm exact values before a treatment decision is made.

I bent 2 pins on my first 2 Libre 3 sensors, putting them on the arm in the exact location mentioned. My tricep muscles apparently are too tough. I called Abbott, got replacement sensors sent, and asked for advice. They recommended the inside, flat area of the upper arm between bicep and tricep. The sensor went in and I've tested it with finger sticks over the past 3 days. It was 60 points off on day one. but now is within 20 points. It's an easier spot to apply anyway. Also, I sleep on my side and roll in bed. So putting it on the outside or back of arm, exposes it to compression and getting knocked off. BTW, I'm using Skin Prep by Smith & Nephew. If the sensor comes off before 14 days, I'll go to Skin Tack. Love the video though.

Well, I guess we won't have to worry about diabetes if we die from scurvy first... Regarding the lag argument, that is obviously nonsense because the Libre has perfectly consistent errors (e.g. always 3.0 mmol/l low). If the problem were lag then the sensor would read high when BG is falling but it never does. Given that Abbot replaced the sensor without asking any questions suggests that Abbot agree that a large number of their sensors are defective.

It is considered "off label" as the company only recommends the back of the arm but there are people who place them on the abdomen as well. I'd suggest talking to your healthcare provider first to get their clearance.

If i scanned it twice then it will only show the two reading that i took??This is not what i thought this does i thought i was getting a constant reading up to 8 hours of storage....!!! And scan was just to transfer information so Either i got faulty device or if this is how this works i will go to another brand!! Because im already not liking freestyle 2 if this is the case

Also, I don't like the idea that Abbott customer service is in the Philippines. Abbott CEO Robert Ford makes more than $20M per year. That's not enough?

I've moved to taking 1/2 a Vit C supplement. Most vitamins are eliminated before the body can use them, so cutting vitamins in half reduces the waste as well as avoids this issue. Also, one should consider what other vitamins and supplements offer. Many add C or have it as part of their package like most multi-vitamin offerings. My men's multi-vitamin has 99mg or about 110% I take a half tablet of that in the evening. I take 250mg C, 5000iu of D, some Zinc and 1/2 of a B supplement in the AM and a 1/2 men's multi-vitamin in the evening. The things I've found interfere with my Libre3 are compression, dehydration and if I've consumed too much salt. (Split a bacon baked potato with my wife and while my Libre3 was going low, my finger sticks were 70-100 mg/dL higher. I had worked out in the AM as well, so 4 pints of water over the next couple of hours got things closer over the next 24 hours. I was about to contact Abbott about another failed sensor, but gave it 24 hours to see if it was me. I think the sensor was 3-4 days into the 14 day cycle. Thanks for your content.

I'm not a Libre user but would say the holes primary purpose is where the insertion needle goes through when putting on the sensor. Same would hold true for the Dexcom G7. But allowing it to breathe may be reasonable but on the other hand it would allow water in while showering or swimming as well.

I was out hiking (5 weeks) and two sensors fell off in quick succession. After discussing with my health care provider we determined that the sensors were more likely to stay on if I put the new one on at night before going to sleeping bag, rather than in the morning just before I would be hiking and sweating. Obvious in hindsight I guess, but to generalize, if you put them on at night you may give the adhesive more time to set before stressing it. (I now put them on at night only, and use extra adhesive product.)

I disagree that the libre 2 is simply lagging and therefore doesn't match the glucometer. What I have done is deliberately check my blood glucose up to 15-20x per day just as a comparison. The libre is off more often than not. So far libre 2 has terrible accuracy andbit is almost higher than the glucometer reading by anywhere from 5-45 points. We are talking about a reading of 175 post prandial that is really 130. Very bad.

Good information in this video. When the sensors stay on, the continuous readings are extremely helpful. Over the few months I have used the sensors, my A1C dropped from 7.4 to 5.8 - my doctor asked me how I did it. As an engineer, I am used to monitoring lots of instrumentation and tweaking the instruments to run at peak performance. I knew that the sensor lags the finger stick readings about 20 to 30 minutes typically. I aim to keep my average readings between 90 and 100 versus being happy when my before meal finger stick readings were close to 130 but we're often much higher. Lately, the Libre 3 sensors have come loose fall off or and give an alarm. Most of the time it is when I am sweating or working in the rain with just a shirt on. Several have become loose while bumping into a doorway or chair. I have been experimenting where the best position is. I notice that I tend to brush up against doorways with my right arm. I place the sensors on my left. Abbott's notes recommend shaving the area. I did last night. I am hairy and have good swaths Sicilian skin. I apply the sensors after showering and wiping the area with alcohol. Just ordered some over-patches to facilitate keeping the sensor on AND help provide a sloped surface for when I do brush up against something with my left arm.

I can't see how you can use these monitors with out continually doing a blood check the ones I have had read above actual level and just go high when I have a meal so I have to check to see what is really happening. It just gives me an idea between readings with the graph but they do not do what they should they are just not good enough yet. I do not get much of a delay between it detecting change in sugar levels compared to blood test.

Great info. My first sensor just came off, putting on a tshirt at 11 days. But I am in the hot tub for up to 1 hour a day, so not too bad, as I assume the hot water softens the adhesive. I have well-controlled T2D (5.5/5.6 A1C/GMI) and I have been using the Libre 3 for my education to help planning aggressive exercise ) lost 60 pounds in 2023. So I already have all I need for now and till try another sensor in 1-2 months. There's an additional reason to avoid ASA (Aspirin, Salicylic Acid, etc) when you are diabetic. ASA is an anti-inflammatory (NSAID), and this category of medication can put a strain on the kidneys. If someone is tending toward kidney failure (which is a potential complication of diabetes), use of this category of medication can push them farther in that direction. So, whenever possible, it's best to try to avoid NSAIDs...err on the side of caution. (Double check with your doctor before taking NSAIDs--they'll know your individual risk for complications.)

It can stop the tearing if your sensor hit a door frame or when people ask about why you have a bandage over your arm you can tell them anything when talking about type one diabetes but the best way to do it is be comfortable with who you are and I use Brand-Aid I am in Canada but I hope I could help it really makes a different when saving a sensor and you get a 10 pack so you really get 2 - 3 sensor's worth of protection .

Well back of the arm doesn't really help you. There is one muscle...maybe you heard of it? Called triceps....The upper chest works better when you go to a gym because there is less dangerous muscle contraction than the tricep. Triceps move a lot up and down when you train them.

Can someone help me. I’m pre diabetic but I don’t understand the readings I’m getting on the libre. I’m getting readings from 4.2-6.9 is this high what does it mean please?

Your doctor should be providing guidance on your glucose levels. Also, there are 2 different scale units that are used when measuring blood glucose (mmol/l or mg/dl) depending on where you live. It is important to know which units you are using, and the time at which you are checking your glucose (fasting or after eating).

@@martinliehs2513 hi thanks for your reply. Since I posted this question I have more understanding on my numbers. For the last 3 weeks I was having 4.5-5.5 mmol fasting and then about 6mmol readings 2 hours after meals. But now it seemed to have gone up 😔 fasting is at 6.6 mmol and after meals about an hour after 7.2 mmol. I don’t know why during the day when I haven’t eaten anything my sugar levels are at 6.6mmol now. Does it mean my pre diabetes has progressed? Also in London were I live they don’t help with anything unless your actually diagnosed diabetic. I buy the Libre monitor myself.

@@amazingAish6187 As a type 1 diabetic for most of my life, I know that my doctor would be ecstatic if my blood sugars stayed within the range that you describe. That said, I can't speak directly to your situation as I am not a doctor. There are sources on the internet that should be able to provide some insight as to what would be considered a "normal" blood glucose reading for you. Also, as alluded to in this video, the CGM sensors are not very precise, but are helpful in monitoring blood glucose trends.

I'm really frustrated with this thing! I think out of say 10 only two have worked for me. The other eight have either not worked at all, not connected with my phone, or fallen off. It probably wouldn't be so bad if my insurance would replace them all the time. I call freestyle libre and they replace them with no problem. But the problem I have is all the time that I'm wasting not being able to wear it. I'm ready to switch brands.

Before you switch brands, know that, according to my endocrinologist's office, all brands are problematic and not always accurate.

I have been using the sensor for 10 days yesterday the apple app can’t read the sensor or even give any error message

That can sometimes happen towards the end of a sensor. I’d make sure to contact Libre to get it replaced as it sounds like a faulty sensor.

Hello, thanks for running this channel and creating amazing content that helps us managing our blood glucose and overall health. I have been using the libre2 for the last 3 months and wanted to share my experience and get your thoughts please: Average glucose readings from the libre 2 app are below in mmol/L: 7 days: 5.9 14 days: 5.9 30 days: 5.7 90 days: 5.9 The Libre 2 app is showing an estimated A1C = 5.3 % (34mmol/mol) I just got my Lab report and there the HbA1C is 6.2 % I'm diagnosed as pre-diabetic based on my A1C reading. Was wondering there is such a big difference between the HbA1C readings from the Libre 2 and the lab results? Any thoughts?
@lanamatthews7251
@lanamatthews7251 3 ай бұрын
It may be because the A1C is measured in serum and the Libre 2 measures interstitial fluid.

Has anyone had an issue with the Freestyle Libre 3 (FL-3) working properly for about 6 days and then have an Error Message, (I believe) "Failure to read sensor"??? When I switched to FL-3, I had 5 sensors fail to read... All the sensors appear to have been securely in place... And when I tested my meter (not the phone app) it passed... I received replacements for all the failed sensors from Abbott... But eventually, due to these constant issues, I decided to go back to using the FL-2 and Abbott sent me a full replacement for my perscription (6 sensors)... Please let me know if anyone else had had sensor failures... As I said, each sensor lasted only 6 days vs the 14 they should have lasted... BTW, awesome video and seeing some of the comments here, I have ordered Skin Tac and Adhesive Remover Wipes to help keep the sensors on...

Thanks for this video. While we have placed the sensor on back of our arm, can we do gym workouts normally as if there is no sensor attached to our arm? Especially biceps and triceps workouts. I have a slim body and I need to gain muscle mass so planning to start gym workouts.

WARNING ABOUT SKIN TAC. Because so many videos like this one recommended it, I bought some Skin Tac and used it the first time I wore a sensor. I found out the hard way that Skin Tac can cause a very severe allergic reaction on your skin. Many people are allergic to "rosin" which is one of the ingredients in Skin Tac. It is derived from pine trees and other similar plants. In my case, the reaction lasted several months, and caused blisters and bumps under the sensor that affected its readings. After that experience, I would suggest testing it before relying on it. So far, in my experience, the adhesive in the Libre 3 seems to work well without any additional precautions.

I’ve just been diagnosed & just put my second Libra2 sensor on. It’s been itching under the sensor & am now thinking I’m sensitive to this. When I took the first one off it left a red skin ring where the sticky stuff was.
