Now we know that it was always fraught with sexual abuse, casting couch, nepotism, objectifying women and what not. This is the good side of social media that the real side of these industries are coming out now. Imagine if this is the case in the so called progressive state of the country, what will be the plight in the other states. It is high time that the worshipping of these male actors should just stop, they are stars on screen and actual human beings in real life who more often than not do really bad things

All else are either Mohanlal Mamooty Rahman Suresh Gopi( much later) Ratheesh Soman etc. even now these people work with women as old as their grandkids why? @gokuldastvm4 ай бұрын
It was well known - just not the specifics. Nobody is surprised. We had even been hearing stories. And the pattern was very clear - like how Parvathy got sidelined. The release of the report just created an opportunity for this issue to become a community talking point on a large scale. But let's be real - unless those who're pushing back (WCC primarily) can't keep the momentum, the culprits will eventually manage to sweep it back under the rug. They have the political clout and influence to control even the media narrative. And meanwhile, the other film industries are equally bad or worse. To make it worse, film industry isn't the only one either.
@Praveen-or5ce4 ай бұрын
Every film industry in the world has this. Atleast kerala put a committee to study about it. Hope they find a solution and punish the culprits. I remember reading an interview of mohanlal years ago in which he says that the indian culture is so advanced that it wrote about having sex with children in kamasutra. I was young and i was suprised to see such a comment from him.
@i.m.v.a.l.k.y.r.i.e4 ай бұрын
It's deeply troubling to see such a dismissive attitude toward the systemic issues of sexual harassment within the film industry. While it's true that harassment exists in many industries, that doesn't excuse or diminish the need for accountability and reform, especially when it comes to something as pervasive as sexual violence. Kerala's decision to establish a committee is a step in the right direction, but it should not be seen as a reason to downplay the severity of the problem. Regarding the comment attributed to Mohanlal, if true, it's not only disappointing but also dangerously misleading. Misinterpreting cultural texts like the Kamasutra to justify abhorrent behaviors like child exploitation is a gross distortion of our cultural heritage and a harmful narrative that has no place in a modern society. We should be focused on creating a safer environment for everyone, especially in industries like cinema, where power imbalances are often exploited. The goal should be to punish the guilty and support the victims, not to make excuses or bring up irrelevant justifications.

Women in film industry were never respected from the time I could remember. Hence most families with “reputation” did not want their daughters into this field. My father would have killed me. So that means people knew from the beginning but never took any action. Especially women then came from poor homes and their income supported their parents. Things are changing for the better now. Women join this field because they are passionate about acting and wants to make it a career hence even after marriage they come back. Even just few years back after marriage women did not come back because they did not see this as a career and came back only after a divorce or to promote their children. I am proud that some of these kids are taking the right action to bring about a change in the system. It’s just not women but there are good respectable men who are supporting them too. Kudos is all I can say for fighting the system. It’s a shame that the govt is not willing to take action but then again it’s comprised of old men with ancient mentality not willing to support women fully.

It's no surprise that the Malayalam film industry has been overcompensating for its true nature by churning out women-centric films. This year's National Award-winning best film, 'Attam,' also centers on a woman's story, much like 'The Great Indian Kitchen.' But this seems more like an effort to mask deeper issues. Interestingly, despite the overt misogyny and sexualization often seen in Telugu cinema, women/actresses from Kerala's WCC, who pushed for this report, have worked in the Telugu industry and found it to be extremely respectable and decent work environment than Malayalam. A classic case of 'don't judge a book by its cover.

I have a few questions about your logical thinking process behind this conclusion. 1. Do you think this abuse started in Malayalam Industry after the Hema commission report? Or is it just that this came to limelight after the report? 2. Continued from 1, do you think that since no report has come out from other industries, in a country like ours, it means that there is no issue in other industries? Or is it just that there is no body like WCC to raise the issue and force the power nexus to loosen the grip and let a report be published like this? 3. Do you think that EVERYONE in the industry has the same mindset and they are making movies to cover up something, or is it possible that there are people with women centric mindsets and all who make movies that are women centric? 4. Based on the questions and your answers to above questions, do you honeslty think this industry is an exception to the general women friendly nature of all other movie industries in India, or is it that this industry set an exception in being the only industry to question this and forced the hand of the government to create an investigation committee and bring out these issues?
