How did Arkane misread the room so badly? If anything, "quality" mode should've been the one delayed until after launch, not performance mode. Or you know... just wait until you have BOTH ready. By doing it this way, you open yourself up to a TON of criticism & the ire of fans, and now have zero room for error. If the game is anything but fantastic, people already have a negative opinion of your game/dev process because of this, so they'll be extremely harsh in judging the game...

There are too many XSS games running on UE4 at 60FPS and 120FPS to make it the case. They are adding a 60FPS mode to XSS at a later date, so it cannot be that. It is supposedly open world so that might tie into it to be fair.

@antoniobandaro It's definitely a weird situation, but every trailer they've ever shown of the game has been running at 60 fps. It's an awful look for them to announce it won't have 60 fps day 1, just 3 weeks before launch. Even if the game is good, the fact we're having this discussion at all really hurts the game's reputation. Perception has been irreparably damaged now. There's now a contingency of people who will always bring this issue up when discussing the game, and likely use it to steer conversation into speculation about Xbox Studio management or other negatives.

Personally, if it's a consistent 30 FPS, I can deal with it. However, when it frequently drops below that is when it bothers me. If the performance mode is coming really soon, I think they should delay the game until it's ready. If the performance mode is a few months off, then they should at least try to give a window, so that people have an idea how long they'll be waiting. Another thing I wish more games would do is give a "balanced" mode. That's how I tend to play most games that offer it.

It's 2023. "Next-gen" has been current gen for two and a half years. There is absolutely no excuse for new games launching at less than 60fps with the hardware we're playing on. It's unacceptable. If I didn't care about high framerates, I would've stuck with my One X and not spent $500 on the most powerful console in the world that has very few games to actually showcase that claim.

Why does that boggle your mind..the more power you give devs the more they put into games..and performance is the last thing they think about.. Even if consoles had an equivalent gpu to a 4090TI..we would still be having this issue.. The problem I'm having is..why is there no 60 fps performance mode when they clearly have the headroom..if you can do 4k 60..you can do DRS 1800p 60... If you can do 1400p 30..you can Do DRS 1080 60... It doesn't make sense.

Not as simple as you think. PC gaming couldn't achieve a stable raw 4K 60fps in most games until the 30 series (Nvidia), if I'm remembering correctly. The new consoles are only comparable to the 20 series. That and consoles have had to strike a middle ground between price and performance for consumers. There are no PC out there that can hit 4K 60fps without exceeding $1000+.

4k is still hard to process for even the newer GPUs. Especially when you have a $500 system. I'd be fine with up scaled 4k at 60fps. No way we're getting native 4k at medium setting and 60fps.

It sucks that there's no option for a 60 FPS for Redfall. I always prioritize graphics anyway, because I like my AAA games pretty so I'll still play it. BUT, I will say this: FPS games at 30 FPS is VERY noticeable instead of 60. I can also imagine this will cause actual headaches/eye strain for people who aren't used to playing like that. 3rd person games aren't that bad (like gotham knights, which I loved at 30), but that's a whole other can of worms.

Even worse is waking up to see Hellblade 2 showing off 1440 p 60 with raytracing, and they are still optimizing! If the difference is unreal 5, then delay this game and port it. I concur with what you have said. I didn't buy a Series X and a tv capable of 120fps to be playing games at 30fps. Yes i get some games are fine at 30fps but a shooter should not be 30fps. The game should be delayed until they are completely happy that they are releasing the best game possible. Xbox for years have been promising games with little to show for it. RROD aside the 360 was my favourite era of Xbox consoles.

Games in this current generation (I say current generation because the Xbox Series consoles have been out for over two years), should be 4K60 standard in my opinion. The tech in these machines can handle the gameplay and visuals. It seems to me like Xbox wanted to meet that 12 month “promise” with Redfall since they already dropped the ball with Starfield. This game has been rushed out and it’s not complete. I will not be playing at launch. I’ll give it a go when performance mode is patched. Of course this is my opinion, and for those of you who enjoy quality mode, I hope you find the game to be a great experience. Completely agree with Rand, great video!

I'm playing Redfall on PC so I don't really care about the 30 FPS issue. Yeah, it's dumb but it doesn't mean the game is garbage in the end even if I understand some people wanna wait. When Dishonored 2 first released it received some really bad backlash and reviews because it didn't perform as it should and was considered a technical mess. Some updates later it was considered a masterpiece. I'm hoping it's good, keeping positive.

if I was gonna play this on console I would definitely go for the quality mode cause this is an Arkane game that doesn't have mind blowing graphics, (but an incredible art style as always) and choosing performance mode means a low resolution, something like 1700p or 1800p which means a worse image quality than it already is. luckily I'll be playing on PC at launch.

If history tells me anything Microsoft will drop the ball again. Sony will be crowned king yet again. And Microsoft will apologize and promise to do better next time. And I have never owned a single Sony console, so save the fanboy comments.

I might try it at 30 for a couple missions, as I am used to it from the past, but will jump into something else until the patch. I would prefer they delay it. Did Microsoft not learn their lesson from Halo Infinite?

I'll wait and maybe play it, 30fps is a deal breaker for me. With games like Diablo, Starfield and Forza coming out Redfall will possibly be skipped.

@@cjmike1024 cannot wait for them to release. I'd say it's more on the devs than Microsoft, though Spencer could of given them resources from other xbox studios to help polish/finish the game.

@@cjmike1024 i do believe Micrisoft have failed in that regard. Having all the resources they have. I.e. dev staff & cash. They could of got some help from devs within the ecosystem or sourced a dev willing to help out for a price.

It’s probably because this is their first game using UE4. Their previous titles used their in-house engine, Void. It’s always the game engine with these types of troubles. Starfields delays are probably due to the upgrade of Creation, Halo Infinite’s delays due to upgraded Slipstream that they’ve now abandoned, Cyberpunk 2077’s trouble was because of upgrading Red Engine, also now abandoned & the list goes on. Studios should stick with what they know until they’ve got time to spend entirely on new tech familiarisation. It’ll be interesting to see how it runs on PC. Void was built around their “water colour” art style & it suited it. I guess UE took some adapting. Everyone should stop announcing games too soon & stop setting unrealistic deadlines. EDIT- I’d rather they just had 1440p @ 60 or even variable res between 1080p & 4K to hold the FPS. Higher settings at a lower res with a higher FPS is always better. Who notices 4K in a shooter anyway. Besides whatever happened to variable rate shading? Wasn’t that supposed to be the panacea for next gen consoles FPS? In the bin with Ray tracing I guess.

This game does not look good enough to be only 30 fps at launch, let alone the fact that this looks like a 40 dollar game LET ALONE the fact they its not even 60 its SEVENTY DOLLARS.

Phil Spencer, Aaron Greenberg, Matt Booty, this is PATHETIC. Pathetic and frankly, unacceptable. Tens of thousands of people getting laid off at Microsoft and somehow the 3 stooges all manage to keep their jobs. The incompetence on display at Xbox/Microsoft game studios is truly baffling to behold. To date the best argument against the ABK deal is how Xbox studios seem absolutely incapable of releasing a game on time, complete, and unbroken. Would you release CoD at 30fps after the deal goes through? Maybe the regulators should be asking themselves questions like this instead of just parroting Sony's sad desperate talking points.

I swear they love sado masochists at Xbox, they do get a lot of unfair criticism but often its also justified; like now. And no, not every studio has issues, but it is a fact that to many times things go wrong that shouldnt go wrong. And as many already have been saying for years, they really should show their games footage not only on high end pc's, Making the same kind dumb mistakes over and over and over again arent coincidences. They either dont care or there are working to many incompetent people at Xbox.

Yea I'll still play and enjoy Redfall via PC gamepass 🙂☺️ it's Arkane, vampires, fps and very atmospheric. I love that. Gamers complain way too much. Thanks man🙂

@Rand al Thor 19 I say you want ONLY 60FPS, why? When they announced the Xbox Series X, the big push was 120FPS gaming, what happened to that? I sold my good 4k TV, then paid a LOT to get an LG OLD with 120FPS support, and for what? Now we're not even getting 60FPS? This is unacceptable and Xbox needs to be called out for this bate and switch! I don't want to hear excuses, they were screaming from the rooftops about 120FPS, and now that we got the systems in our homes, it's radio silents.

Gamers need to stop crying about 30 FPS, its cinematic style and looks good when its at high resolutions. Not every game looks better at 60 or 120 FPS. Sure a racing game would but slower moving models just does not need it.

7:30 rand makes an awesome point that data might show more ppl play at 30fps. The twitter bubble doesn’t represent every gamer it’s just full of the loud vocal minority. I don’t know how I feel about it, i’ll try it i suppose.
