RIP to Jim Kellstrom (1:50), a retired FBI Special Agent and former US Marine who served two tours in Vietnam. He died from a rare blood cancer on July 3, 2021, two weeks after this video posted. The heroism of the two officers that charged this thug to keep him from getting out on to the busy public street - knowing his history - and without the benefit of any cover or concealment is brave and honorable. Their performance was beyond commendable, even as they were dying they worked together to complete their mission. Heroes.

Two things: Jeffrey Erickson was shot by the veteran policeman but Erickson's coup de grace was evidently a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Also, although an ex-policeman himself, Erickson was trained by the military as an expert marksman specifically the marines. It seems, if you watch a bunch of these types of shows Forensic Files/Cold Case Files/The New Detectives/Unusual Suspects/Nightmare Next Door/etc., there are a lot of ex-military criminals.

Agreed! I’ve had a cop flip an illegal bitch just to run my plates on the 5 min ride home from work. Lied about why he pulled me over, but no ticket given he just left. Also had them run the plates on my small MIL sick with lupus and said it was for a taillight being out. 3 other cars came up and they positioned one at every door, accusing us of random things (such as me being a runaway…I was well over 18). When we got home no lights were off, they just had been hoping to escalate. I agree he likely profiled the car and likely profiles at random based on personal bias. I don’t believe that part at all.

I think that for someone like Erikson, it's an addiction. After the first few robberies, he could've stopped and lived on the proceeds for the rest of his life. He would've had a big pool of cash to spend, and they weren't living above their means either. If he was a top marksman, but found regular police work boring, maybe he was just after the action? Anyone who insists they want to be in SWAT when they apply to a police academy is probably not suited for the job.

So cops have learned that it's both dangerous and ineffectual to shoot at/from a moving vehicle.
@johnnytyler56853 жыл бұрын
No. Jill Erickson WAS shot by those cops multiple times. Then she committed suicide by firing the FATAL shot. This "documentary" leaves A LOT of details out...and I get the feeling that it was deliberate. Notice how there is not ONE SINGLE PICTURE of the two perps, other than the male robber wearing disguises in banks and a picture of his dead body (which only shows his back)? That is incredibly unusual for a documentary and I was waiting anxiously for the end of this vid to see actual pictures of the two, but they were never shown. It's pretty clear that law enforcement was angry with these two because to some degree, the criminals got the better of them. It wasn't mentioned in this video, although it WAS shown accurately...the US Marshal who was disarmed by Jeff Erickson WAS a woman. She was disarmed by Jeff, who was a MARINE (something that ALSO wasn't mentioned for some reason...they claim that his "excellent marksmanship" was from his ONE YEAR of police employment but Jeff actually learned to shoot in the Marines), and Jeff then executed her partner. This documentary also tries to make it seem like the retired officer and courtroom security guard was the one who killed Jeff Erickson. That is also at least somewhat of a lie. The security guard DID shoot Jeff four times but they were NOT fatal wounds. Jeff then killed the security guard with one shot. Just like his wife Jill, he then turned the female Marshal's gun on himself and committed suicide when he determined he wasn't likely to escape the scene.

Targeting police officers back then was very rare. The reason being the criminals knew that if they did they would get a good beating once caught (which I think is a good thing). Unfortunately, now a days cops are expected to treat violent criminals as if they victims. Give them a warm blanket and coco then apologize for inconveniencing the criminals. Disgusting.

A relative of mine, got blasted in the face while pursuing a couple of bank robbers in California. I admit, I was kind of disappointed, that during the apprehension of the booger eaters, his fellow deputies did not witness the perps have an accident. I believe one of them died in the pen though. I wonder if it was at Tehachapi? Cuz that is where my uncle was a CO. I feel robbed. I met my older relatives, including a man who was wounded fighting Japanese troops in the Pacific theater during World War Two. He would be about my grandmothers age now. My kin have enlisted during every war since conflict since World War Two and no one has came home in a bag.

There was an amazing TV movie back in the day based 9n this. It had Bruce Campbell as the bandit & Aunt Becky as his wife. It was the In The Line If Duty series. This was also the insident that that changed laws on commiting a crime using a police scanner. Before that no ever did it or got caught doing it I should say.
