Why Shreyas has been given less credit is bcz he has never done it before. The team that played this year had a stamp of GG's 2012/2014 era. You could see how Russel and Narine were playing. Iyer had captained this side previously as well but he didn't achieved something spectacular. This team from day 1 was operated by his mentality and tactics. You could feel that the players are playing under him rather than anyone else. And yes the factor of coming back and winning the title played a major role about the hype.
