In the second season of Fox's Farmer Wants a Wife, Ty Ferrell-one of four farmers searching for love-spoke candidly about his experiences there and the reasons for his surprising choice at the end of the program.
Ferrell surprised his last two women, Melody Fernandez and Megan Lay, on the last episode of the dating reality program on May 9 by deciding to break up with both of them. For Lay, who Ferrell had said was more than just a buddy, it was particularly startling.
Ferrell noted that the sequence in which he broke up with Lay required many takes and took up five minutes of screen time, but the audience was taken aback by the choice. In the days before the conclusion, he also claimed to be a "wreck."
For about a day and a half, Ferrell said to LancasterFarming.com, "I was a wreck." "I was going to have to tell Megan that she wasn't my type, so it was a very emotional moment for me." And it did take her by surprise.
Ferrell clarified that despite the unpleasant ending to the production, he and Lay are still friends after speaking for four hours over the phone a few days after the climax was filmed.
However, this was unknown to many watching at home, thus the internet's response to Ferrell's devastating choice created quite a commotion. After the show's end, the 42-year-old Sikeston, Missouri, cowboy and insurance adjuster claimed to have gotten a lot of hate mail from viewers.
He said, "I was depicted in a manner that I don't believe is me, so it was painful reading everything the day after (the finale). "I never imagined that I would be viewed as essentially divisive on television."
He continued, saying he had followed fan feedback throughout the series, saying, "It's interesting to hear people's perspective like that." "Very few people have the opportunity to be on this side of it and live your life, and then, six months later, it's all over the TV and you can see what everyone's thinking."

In addition, Ferrell expressed astonishment at how "cold" and "uncaring" he seemed on television, saying, "To be honest, I'm a feeler." [However] I'm not at all depicted that way.
The Missourian said that he had not seen Farmer Wants a Wife's first season, but he nonetheless submitted an application after learning from a friend that the program was seeking for a second season. After watching the first season, he believed it was a fantastic way to meet someone he could spend the rest of his life with.
Ferrell did, however, express to LancasterFarming his desire that the ladies on the program had been older or more like him. Many of the women, who ranged in age from 31 to 38, expressed a desire to have a family at some point.
The single parent said, "I've never been like, 'Oh I want a younger woman.'" "I want a life partner with whom I can do this."
Despite not finding a long-term partner, Ferrell did establish some new, enduring friendships with Mitchell Kolinsky, Brandon Rogers, and Nathan Smothers-three other farmers who were also looking for love.
Ferrell said that the producers finally gave in to the four farmers' strong mutual preference for each other's company, despite their earlier attempts to keep them apart on group trips.
Regarding his friendship with his fellow Season 2 farmers, Ferrell said, "It's a trauma bond," pointing out that they continue to communicate often via group chats. "Because nobody else who is experiencing that life can truly understand what it's like."
