So, I am taking Philosophy in college this semester, and we recently talked about the idea of logic, and Shockwave is a perfect example of the dangers of a life led solely by logic. There is no scientific reason that something like murder is wrong. We base that on morality, which has little scientific basis, but is something we trust nonetheless. Shockwave doesn’t care about morals. He only cares about what the most logical course of action is to complete his goals. So if someone like a child poses even the slightest obstacle to those goals, and Shockwave cannot find any use for them, he will eliminate them, because it’s the optimal way to achieve his objective, morality be damned.

Counterpoint: That morality has an evolutionary basis in the fact that cooperation is beneficial for our survival, and traits that make us cooperate with each other such as an aversion to killing one another would be selected for. We could then proceed to extrapolate this into the simple statement that murder is logically and pragmatically a bad decision as it reduces our capability as a wider species. The only time this statement would not check out is if another person is a genuine and significant threat to yourself, and with the general sentiment about self defense we can see that when the logic stops holding up, many people stop caring in the moral sense as well.
